Well, it's been a ride seeing all you nice folks appreciate my work.

I gotta say if you read my last post in this thread you'll understand why i'm doing this...

doing what? - starting my own site silly, to distrubute my skins...and why not?
You guys gave me to confidence to do so, thankyou.

I'm not a mercenary, just trying my best is all, but if you like what i do i'll have my own site for you to come and view, it'll be an instant download system with concentrated support if you need it, custom jobs...the works.

It's a new site, so if your up for giving me some advice, i could use it i suppose, pop by or send me a PM or something, i'll be happy to listen to some good ideas and chew the cud so to speak.

Well, i hope i haven't disapointed you you all, wasn't my intension, i just hope you can support me in my desision, you've been great thus far, been a privilege to serve.

cheers

Hi, and thanx for your comments, well it's a simple problem, any new templates that get installed all you have to do is use the 'xtra' table code i supplied, this solves the problem you descibed, looks like you'll have to do a search for your vbadvanced index template and then cut and paste the table html into that template, instructions are supplied in that text file...good luck

Hi.. well if you alter anything about the style it then becomes essentially customized beyond the remit of my support, but i'd just say.....leave it alone ;) put the settings back as it was, then tred carefully through them making a note of what they do, if it doesn't look good then revert it... you get my point, good luck.

Perhaps someone knows here lol

This is annoying & bugging the hell out of me.

I installed this theme today with no problem. I just had to do couple code modifications.

On the vbadvanced cmps portal page, at the bottom right before the footer where it shows the copyright text by Vba. Where the black columns on either side of the browser is at. On the same line with the copyright text, the images ain't showing up. *laughs*But it is showing up everywhere else where it should be, just not the specific lines.

I'm sitting here pouring through the code trying to figure it out.

I know it's not my footer template. I know it's not the adv_portal_footer template. It is only not showing on the portal page, but it's working fine everywhere. Just not on pages that's utilizing the portal engine.

I can furnish a screenshot on request.

b6gm6n -

You can see it here. :) http://www.houseofcrazed.com...

Ah, the vb database, let's let me look...

According to the database, it says the following for adv_portal_footer

<!-- Do NOT remove this copyright notice. Doing so is a violation of your user agreement! -->

<div align=\"center\" class=\"smallfont\">" . construct_phrase("$vbphrase[powered_by_vbadvanced_cmps]", "$vba_options[portal_version]") . "</div>

So, lol ... I'm sitting here going crazy, *laughs*

b6gm6n
07-10-2004, 01:09 AM
$vbphrase[powered_by_vbadvanced_cmps]

There is it...

$vbphrase[powered_by_vbadvanced_cmps]

goto your vba phrases section in ACP and look for the phrase above

just add the code below replacing the CONTENT_HERE with the phrase

<table width="100%" height="100%" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td width="36" height="300" align="left" valign="top" nowrap background="images/hardwired/misc/vborgmiddle_01.gif"><img src="images/hardwired/misc/vborgmiddle_01.gif" width="36" height="57" alt=""></td>

<td width="37" height="300" align="right" valign="top" nowrap background="images/hardwired/misc/vborgmiddle_03.gif"><img src="images/hardwired/misc/vborgmiddle_03.gif" width="37" height="57" alt=""></td>
</tr>
</table>

I'm sure thats it... :)

Good luck!

Frzzy

Its based on vB 3.0.1
I don't know exactly but a lot of 3.0.1 templates are not done in Hardwired, so I just want to know which template version Hardwired is based on, so I can update thoroughly...

Jason McConnell
07-10-2004, 08:30 PM
The importer said it was designed for v.3.0.0 after I forgot to click ignore style version :)

Anyway, I'm completely lost here. Adding that code in the xtra table code textfile in what I thought were the appropriate places just made things worse. I've seen this style used on vBACMPS on other sites, I'm wondering how they got it to work :(

**EDIT**
Ok, I think I've got it... my only problem now is the navbar at the top... but I'm kind of inclined to leave it as it is. I'm having the same problem as House of Crazed though... as i wander off laughing maniacaly :eek:

I think I got that one figured out man. Just went and looked at your site, I was having the same troubles :) Change the height to 20 pixels instead of 300, and then copy this into your adv_portal_footer.

<table width="100%" height="100%" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td width="36" height="300" align="left" valign="top" nowrap background="images/hardwired/misc/vborgmiddle_01.gif"><img src="images/hardwired/misc/vborgmiddle_01.gif" width="36" height="57" alt=""></td>
<td width="100%" height="100%" valign="top">
<center>Powered by <a href="http://vbadvanced.com" target="_blank">vBadvanced</a> CMPS v{1}</center></td>
<td width="37" height="300" align="right" valign="top" nowrap background="images/hardwired/misc/vborgmiddle_03.gif"><img src="images/hardwired/misc/vborgmiddle_03.gif" width="37" height="57" alt=""></td>

Agh...I really like this style, but I have many many pages (RPG pages, shoutbox pages, atricles pages etc etc etc) where this common "missing side images" problem is. If there is ANY way NOT to go through the nightmare of editing every single page, than please do say something. Any few templates I could edit so it does show up on all pages? :)

However, I tried to open the vbulletinorg3.psd file for the top logo, so I could edit the text with my own, and apparently I do not have enough RAM, according to photoshop. My wife's computer will not open it either. The thing is, the file isn't THAT large (447 KB), so that makes no sense.

Could you possibly send it to me again (in case it's messed up) or maybe I could email you my logo to incorporate into it? It looks GREAT otherwise! Thanks again.

You need to go to the style manager and edit Forum Home Templates > navbar and find

<a href="login.php?$session[sessionurl]do=logout" onclick="return log_out()">$vbphrase[log_out]</a>

and replace it with

<a href="login.php?$session[sessionurl]do=logout&amp;u=$bbuserinfo[userid]" onclick="return log_out()">$vbphrase[log_out]</a>

This will fix it in the navagation bar.

There is also a link on the bottom part of the forums main page

Just edit Forum Home Templates > FORUMHOME and replace the same link with the new one

very nice style :) , but you might want to have a look at your head and headinclude templates as they are a bit of a muddle, view the source of your own forum for an example of what i'm talking about. You have double sets of <head> and <body> tags and even closed off </html> in the header after the logo aswell as at the bottom of the board.

Although most browsers will probally still render the pages properly, thought you might like to know. Good job though, and thanks for releasing it.

Thanks for looking into it, I haven't given up trying to figure it out, the font menu in the default style works fine and I created another "test" style based on the default style and the font menu worked fine there as well..

It's probably something simple.. :confused:

After much eye-popping template trawling (which proved to be a complete waste of time as it was somewhere else ;)), I have found out why the WYSIWYG editor wasn't working, interested? then read on :)

Go to you all style options for the hardwired style in your AdminCP.

ctrl+f and search for Text Editor Control Styles

for the bottom 4 that say (WYSIWYG only)

They will all say this: border: 1px solid #434B55

Delete the first bit leaving just the colour in each box #434B55

Works a treat for me, hope it works for the rest of you with the same problem.

Thanks IanR, that seems to have fixed my problem, now once I select a font the drop-down menu, it closes like it's suppose to ..

All you really need to remove is the "border:" to get it to work right.. :)

I had to remove the 1px solid bits too, it's fine with them, but after the page has finished loading the smilies wouldn't work again. (However it did work if the page was still loading so maybe you want to check this out just to make sure it's alright on your board)

You're right, neither the similes or color selection menus would work until I removed the "1px solid" part as well.. Now everything seems to be working..

Now if I can just find someone to do a custom style for me, I'd have it made.. I like the Hardwired style, but I'm looking for something a bit lighter..

Was there a fix for this:
1. An error occurred while attempting to log you out. Click here to log out.

2. And, when using the cmps portal system, it doesn't work well, it messes up the template by pushes the edges of the portal to 100%, and the ends of the template are missing. Any ideas on how to fix that?

To fix the first problem, I had to edit the style and 'revert' the NAVBAR and that seems to have cleared it up for me.

What I'd like help with is changing the background color & font size of all the text within the 'QUOTE' and '/QUOTE' tags, I would like the background color to be lighter & the font to be smaller to accent the quoted text. :)

Another thing I've noticed, on creating a thread, even though the "Post Icon" is set to "No Icon", I still get the "Post" (first icon) whether I want it or not..

Any suggestions....

In your default vB3 template search for:

highlight and copy the code to:

Highlight the same section in your hardwired style and replace it with the good code taken from the other style.

b6gm6n,

Would you mind if a posted a modified version of the XML file that would take care of some problems for some people? In particular it should work fine with no modifications for the vBadvanced CMPS crowd (which included me which led me to doing the modifications) and will also eliminate the logout problem.

Edit: It now also includes the WYSIWYG smilie fix by IanR.

Couldn't we just get a list of what to edit to fix the problems if we already have it installed? I don't want to have to re-install the style and the re-install all my hacks.It's a little more complicated than that because of the way that b6gm6n did the side graphics on the left & the right. Essentially he modified every template that is normally displayed the full width of the page and added in the side graphics. Even though there were no color or image changes to the template it was still touched to add in the side bars.

What I did was start with a clean slate. I imported the style and then reverted all of the templates back to their defaults. I then modified the header & footer to wrap the contents of the page display inside of another table with the three columns needed. Think of a table with three columns & one row across; the left graphic border goes in the first column, the page content goes in the middle column, and then the right graphic goes in the third column.

The end result is the same as before (as far as I can see at least) but with only two template modifications instead of the dozen or so in the original XML file. That then allows anything that is using the standard header & footer template to then be wrapped inside of the border graphics so by default add-ins such vBadvanced CMPS will automatically use the side graphics. A much cleaner & easier approach.

In regards your specific problems, I know that the guys over at http://www.lssix.com (http://www.lssix.com/) got their site working with vBa so you might be able to find out from them what modifications they made to shoe-horn in the style into vBa. For your logout problem it can be eliminated by making sure that all of your logout links in your header & footer look like http://yoursite.com/forum/login.php?do=logout&u=$bbuserinfo[userid] (http://yoursite.com/forum/login.php?do=logout&u=$bbuserinfo[userid) -- The "&u=$bbuserinfo[userid]" was added in after the initial vB3 release so when the Hardwired skin was originally created it wasn't there at the time.

Other than that Top Style !For item #1, use the attached XML instead of the one that comes in the zip file. I redid it so that the only two templates modified are the header & footer and I also fixed some HTML problems to make it more WC3 compliant. :)

To change it from a liquid to a fixed width style just go into the header and change the very first line from 'table width="100%"' to whatever width you want instead.

It'll work fine with any hacks, portals, etc. that you have installed with no problems since there are really no template changes other than the header and the only reason the footer is modified is to close the table opened in the header.

Edit: Yes, it also includes the logout fix and also the editor fix.

Hmmmm - http://www.d1driftseries.com/forum/Whoops! In your header there are actually two table width's you need to modify.

Go to the bottom of the header template and go upward; at the 2nd from the bottom 'table width="100%"' entry change the value to match the value in your first line.

-b6Hey, you're still with us! :cool:

As I mentioned above it's a really nice looking style but people had problem with it because of the way it was implemented. To clarify that, in the original version the header was seperate from the body which was seperate from the footer so there were three unique areas. That meant that nearly every template that would be displayed between the header and the footer had to be modified to have the outside graphic borders and to set the width. For people using various portals that also caused problems for them because then they'd have to modify the portal template to do the same thing.

If you take a look at the modified version that I posted the same effect was achieved by wrapping everything inside of an outer table so that the side graphics are specified in just one spot, the header. By doing that none of the other templates, except for the footer, had to be touched so they were all reverted back to the defaults. The footer was then touched to close the table that was opened in the header. The end result was the exact same look & feel of the original but with only two templates modified.

The other problem that came up was that stuff in the original version's 'header' area was causing the page to fail validation. To clarify that, the body & head tags should not have been in there and the CSS style could've been placed in the "Additional CSS Definitions" section.

Please, do not take my comments earlier as an insult as it was not meant to be. My earlier comment was more of a 'heads-up' that when working on styles sometimes it's good to look at other styles to see how certain things were implemented rather than starting from scratch.

So when are you going to release the new hardwired skin?

b6gm6n
10-23-2004, 07:15 PM
Thanx KW802 for the heads up, yup i agree the original style was a bind to implement with other hacks etc, anyways thanx, i have a more informed insight now :)

The New HW skin will be released soon, but i'm toying with the idea of creating more skins and a site to host/display and sell my skinwares, thus my revised HW (lite) i may begin with to start the whole ball rolling with. I have a pro setup for selling my skins via CCard,Paypal&NoChex just haven't implemented them yet, i have a few other skins to start up with also, plus i'll need a place to consolidate all my other wares, like skins for Photopost PRO, Coppermine, Invision Power Board (1.3 & 2.0) etc...

Plus i'll do custom jobs, i have a great idea for an interface for people to use to design their own bog-standard VB skin live online, with information fields for you to enter what you need etc, just click send and i'll do the rest (with a little consultation from the customer of course)

I don't wanna be just another skinning site, gonne be more than that...

But what do you guys think? - this will be a virgin project for me, and i'm here to listen to any ideas you have on such sites, like pricing, design...anything, tell me the things that bug you about sites like these (if you use them?) anything you really like?

In the end, i'm not in this for money, far from it.. i enjoy what i'm doing and to get a little remuneration to offset hosting costs and the like the better.

But i wanna start off well, (as best as i can) - so a little feedback now would be a boon, ideas, suggestions, fears :) whatever... lemme know.

When i get this all started, i'll host the original HW skin for free from my place, but i'll goto town on the HW(v2) skin :)

anyways, ova to u...

Hi folks, well if you go over to www.x7x7x7.com you'll see a new version of hardwired, a few more design enhancments, bug free (as much as i can tell) and almost ready to distribute, if you wanna keep in contact with me use my forum, i'll be faster for me to contact those interested in my works.

I would recommend that my old hardwired skin which was available here should be scraped in favour of this new one, when ready i hope you'll enjoy this new hack friendly skin.

Once you release the new skin, I will delete the download link I made.

a little tip for the xtra table code thing, is to actually put that into your header and footer templates, so u dont gotta do it to every single template.

jpt62089, a link to the actual post would have been better as you cannot download directly as unregistered.

Well, the new version of this skin is finished, working well... i'm currently a beta tester for a great licence & download system which i hope to install soon to enable people to purchace my wares, check my site for more details on the skin itself and a possible way to buy the skin straight away as the software i'm testing will not be ready for a few weeks yet.
cheers

Well, i hope i haven't disapointed you you all, wasn't my intension, i just hope you can support me in my desision, you've been great thus far, been a privilege to serve.

cheers

Y'know it's so difficult getting download management softwares...hmmm anyways, check the attached or click here for a demo (http://www.x7x7x7.com/forums/index.php?s=&styleid=6) of my newest skin, i have another 5 skins in the pipeline and this latest one is a total custom job, not ultra hack friendly and one of the last i will design using 'border' graphix... anyways what ya think?
