Since nobody did a half decent job ripping the Geltech skins, I decided to rewrite them from scratch! Check out my work:

http://www.chatboxx.net/

I never got the PSD's though, and insidethepixel has finally shutdown its server. Does anyone have the PSD's?

This would mean a lot to me :)

Chris

If he paid for it and he's not redistributing it then there's no problem, right?

Unless you originaly payed for copyright removal their copyright must still remain intact.

If insidethepixel is gone, then there is no copyright holder

With all the people they ripped off, someone should distribute their skins

No one can redistrube the style leagaly, its still piracy, and not having the copyright is agasint the law.

Dawson,

Just because a company doesn't appear to be existence anymore the copyright still stands.

Permission should have been sought by powerpig before starting work as it isn't his design to rewrite.

As long as he bought a license he can do anything as long as he does not redistrubte it, and does not remove the original copyright. However this is at his own risk.

I'm certainly glad I read this thread before I posted the eight new admin cp css styles I created. I use vBulletin 3.0.1 as the backbone to my entire site. Anybody want to see my credit card receipt? Does anybody want to see my drivers license and know my social security number as well? I'm beginning to take a strong dislike to the fact that the entire community of vBulletin developers is growing very sketchy thanks to the constant policing of one another. Every vB oriented forum I visit and read, I see that a lot of the posts are nothing more than vicious rantings about who is "legal" and who is not, followed by replies from the accused parties who are too spineless to tell these people that it's none of their business and to take a hike! Honestly, I have less hassle from the state police when I get stopped for a traffic violation.

I'm a very busy pre-med student with a double major in Computer Science, and I do my web developing on the weekends as a hobby. This means that I do this for fun and I do not appreciate being accused of two bit thievery when I feel generous enough to share my creations (such as my admincp customizations) on a forum that nobody else really shares with. I think I am one of like 3 people who's posted a new admincp css style for 3.x.

Not that it's anyone elses business, but I bought and paid for the Geltech skin and the no-branding option. This is the ONLY time I plan to reveal my financial dealings to total strangers. Furthermore, to spare myself the potential insults and empty accusations in the future, I will refrain from sharing anything else on this forum, and instead, I'll post them on my site where I have control over the delete button when it comes to the bickering, accusations, and insults.

As far as others wanting a copy of my 3.0.x conversion of the Geltech skin, I would strongly advise them to wait and grab a 3.0.x copy from the original author because that is what I plan to do myself. InsideThePixel is doing an overhaul of their site, and should be back up shortly. Besides, my conversion of this skin is not Mozilla, Firefox or Netscape friendly for a reason: I am a firm believer in IE.

Last but not least, if anybody wants my admincp css styles, I'll be posting them on my own site because I certainly don't feel welcome here!

i agree people should mind their own business and if they are really concerned they should report it rather than harrassing the person they 'think' is in the wrong
that way if they are in the wrong they get delt wifh
and if they have paid then it won't matter because the person getting reported to already knows everything is cosure

i regret that you have been treated poorly here

wambam and powerpig,

All people on here are trying to do is to protect the interests of the original authors, both of you should know by now that anything related directly or indirectly to Jelsoft is vigourously defended.

No one is jumping to conclusions here.

powerpig did not make it clear that he had already bought the skin with a no branding option. We still do not even know whether he is permitted to re-distribute it.

As far as I can see no one is being harrassed here, if powerpig had posted a lot sooner in this thread then maybe it wouldn't have got this far.

Please do not come up with the same arguments how qualified you are powerpig. How qualified you are to do something has nothing to do with the issues of copyright that have been discussed in here. I have seen many academics on many forums quoting their qualifications thinking it makes any difference to their arguments.

The world is not black and white.

Again, my purchases and financial dealings are none of your business. You deal with your own domains and I'll deal with mine. I'm under no obligation to reveal to you or anyone else how much I paid any given person for their products and services.

I have seen many people (with no ties to the world of academia) with nothing better to do in life but harass and accuse other people. It's ridiculous! Thus, I won't share anymore of my styles here.

There was no harrasment, if someone was sending him tons of rude pms and spaming him with violent emails, maybe.

You are correct with that statment, however im sure you would like us to protect your works too if ever released.

I agree with webwam, if you suspect someone of piracy report it to the original author or vBulletin instead of embarassing them without proof.

poolking

Andrewski2k,

No one is embarrasing anyone here. A third party skin has nothing to do with jelsoft, so jelsoft won't do anything about it.

No one is asking powerpig to reveal any financial dealings.

Maybe in hindsight, powerpig shouldn't have started this thread.

As a preemptive, im going to close this thread. powerpig, please feel free to open another thread if you would like comments or other suggestions.
