Enjoy!
I dont have any screens for this mod atm, so im sorry
However i did use this style on
www.squareultima.com/forums (http://www.squareultima.com/forums)
:)
If there are any problems let me know
repaste the top part into your forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost to take advantage of collasping.
:)
your a good old boy! :P ty
EDIT : Maybe you could show us how you added the 'Max/Min' catagory buttons?
Zachery

Ah i forgot to add that back in didnt i? :/
lol ill revamp the tut in a fe w:)
you might have done....its just i looked brielfy through the code, and missed any bits to add my 'minamize' ;'maxamize' buttons.
++, dont wanna sound too much like a pain, but i notice here that they have managed to apply this to the navbar at the top...do you know how to achieve this? +++, (blatant cheek i know), the 'What's Going On?' and the 'Welcome to the X forums, please sign up' notices arn't included....are they easily achieved?
Thanks again! :)

.............
This hack doesn't even work. Just shows part of an image and 404 error boxes. How lame.
hahaaaa....did you try putting your image locations in there? N00b. it worked 100% first time easy peasy for me. The image boxes just means you didn't put any url, or the url it wrong. idoit. Please dont flame a thread with such negitivity if you are the one at fault!

Now Now magik theres no reason to flame him
HostC you need to provide your own images for this, this is just a small tutorial on how to make it work for you :)

I will release an alignment mod to fix anyone who is having their problems. altho i really dont like sharing everything i figure out ;)
altho i really dont like sharing everything i figure out
I don't want to sound like a dick, but thats a kinda crappy attitude. That's the main purpose of these sites, and the community as a whole. Way too many people are trying to make a buck off of halfassed vbulletin services they claim to offer, and the little real help in the communities really seems to be dwindling away.
I think that when you become a staple in these communities, its kinda part of the job description to help when you can, particularly with things that you release. If that is something that you'd rather keep to yourself, then its probably best to do just that, and keep it to yourself, rather than gloat or release half finished products that you have the fixes for but "would rather keep them a secret"(ps, this isn't directed at zachery, but the community and trends lately in general, his post just magnified the situation).
The more people try to split off and do their own thing, the further the point of open source moves away from its goal: to have great working things that many people have input on to make the best product possible. As people start to segregate themselves and their work, fewer and fewer people will be there to form that checks and balances type of QA system that open source coding revolves around.
I for one appreciate all of the effort you and the rest of the coders put into these sites and vbulletin, but I'm not sure how else to portray thatother htan clicking install and offering a candid opinion or aid whenever I can. I am sure lots of others feel the same way as well, so the work isn't going unnoticed.

Well as of right now most of the work here is mine and i seem to be the only one realesaing anything as of late. Its not that i dont mind its just i dont like sharing all my trade secretes :)
Im not charing for my services, and im not paid to work here, i do this site purely volentary, yes i do have a business site up, but do you see me advertising it here?
I dont release half finished products, this does EXACTLY what it says it will do, and thats give you the ability to add images at the corners of your forum home and space the categorys.
Aye Zach, the main jist of my post wasn't aimed at you, though it was in reply to your post. with VB3 Gold, it seems like the majority of the mods to the sites are going to be done through Templates, and it is a real bummer seeing this site being contributed to by just a couple of people, yourself and floris being the main 2 IMO, and a few others who seem to be making a valiant effort at also keeping up the community.
VBulletinTemplates.com should be BOOMING, but it is barely touched. Even with as much traffic that is directed here from vb.org, it's just not picking up IMO.
I think a couple of steps in the right direction are as follows: (and I'm sure as a mod you have little control over these things, but maybe someone will see.)
1. Broken image links on main page just add to the ghosttown effect of the site. It's a small fix that would at least give the impression that there is some sort of administrating body overseeing things.
2. Forum guidelines need to be in a more centralized location, and more attention needs to be paid to these guidelines. I think one of the guidelines or possibly even rules? over at vb.org is to always include a ss and txt. for this site, that is exponentially more important. Someone needs to fix the image uploading so that everyone can post images of their mods. It seems like a lot of VB site owners have ADD or something, and not a week after they get their site setup, mods posted, and whatnot, they have a link to some image on their site instead of posting a jpg, which is kinda just a roundabout way of getting people to visit, which isn't all bad I guess, but they really should be including jpg's uploaded to vBT.
The install button, it's purpose, and perhaps it's recognition should all be made more clear. Currently, I know that on vb.org, when I click install, it gives me updates to the mod that the author posts, and it lets me see a list, but what else does it do? why do the mod authors have to make a point about clicking install? I didn't know about the button here until after several mods were installed, and I am still not sure what exactly it does. I think we as members should be very aware of what installing does, so that the coders dont have to beg us to click the button.
Anyhow, those are justa few things that would help out vBT and the vB community IMO. I think you're doing a great job here, and I really did not intend for my initial post to be focussed on you, but the happenings as a whole. Keep up the good work, and I can't wait til I get familiar enough with vB to offer my own mods and ideas, rather than just helping people out with what others are installing.

hhmm when i use your code everything is fine up to the point i put the cat image in via the style manages like normal. The catagory strip image then over flows the corner images. Its like the cat bar is still the full lenght of the forum for some reason. Any ideas ?

I'd really like to get this working, but when I installed it, it totally messed up my column spacing. If there a way, without having to hardcode the widths like it was previously, to get this working? Can someone post a modified version that will work on a stock conversion of 3.0.0.1? Thanks anyone who helps.

Remove the bored on the table in the STyle Manager, add your image if you want it on the bottom also add this to the botton of the forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost
<table width="100%" cellpadding="" cellspacing="" valign="" align"center">

Hi! This seems like a great mod, but I'm having trouble getting it to work with my forum due to my use of the "subforums in columns" hack by Xenon. It seems to be the level1 nopost template that's screwing me up. Can anyone help me? Is it possible to have both columned subforums and separated categories?
Here's what my template looks like:
<tbody>
<tr>
<td class="tcat" colspan="<if condition="$vboptions[showmoderatorcolumn]">6<else />5</if>">
<a style="float:$stylevar[right]" href="#top" onclick="return toggle_collapse('forumbit_$forumid')"><img id="collapseimg_forumbit_$forumid" src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/collapse_tcat{$collapseimg_forumid}.gif" alt="" border="0" /></a>

<if condition="$show['subforums']"><div class="smallfont"><strong>$vbphrase[subforums]</strong>: $forum[subforums]</div></if>

How can i get more space in between the catagories
Kinda funny that I'm the one responding here, since I'm still trying to get help for my question, LOL! :D But anyway, here goes, I think this will help.
In the edited forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost template, where you added:
<div style="padding: 5px 5px 5px p5x;"></div>
Change the various "5px" references to whatever you want -- if you want more space, make them "10px" or even higher. Play around to see what looks good on your forums.
(And btw, make sure to change the typo* from "p5x" to "5px". This typo was pointed out in this thread early on, so I'm surprised the file hasn't been changed by now.)
Hope I'm right and this helps.

I just wanted to pop in here and give a shout out on this hack. I couldn't do it when I was in process of getting it to work because we were building a whole theme that we wanted to keep under wraps. But from the one hack we were able to do things we never thought we could.
Things that improved our Look from this hack
#1 We always wanted forum spacing, but could never get it to work right. We now have it and it's fantastic!
#2 Top and Bottom Images is something we ALWAYS wanted, but again had no idea how to do it. They add so much to the forum and you can use them anywhere!
#3 From looking at the code and realizing we could use it anywhere, we redesigned our Postbit using this code, and it's added a whole new level of originality and professionalism to our board.
#4 This code gave us the confidence to really push and figure some new things out. One of those was having links built in onto the forum header, and not only just links, but links that change when being hovered over. And another was the integration in the profile area in the postbit.
This hack ALONE has had the single greatest impact on the look of our board.
You can view the change yourself by going to www.xgplanet.com and using the Quick Style Chooser to switch between the old look and the new look. Its really amazing.
I have also attached some pics of what this has done for our board.
PS - bfoot045's board is CLEARLY inspired by what we have done. I just don't like him copying our style without permission.

I had problems with my alignment on both the last post and also the image at the beginning, I couldn't figure out how to get them to work til I decided to add width="100%" to the
<td class="thead" width="100%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td> so as i have it below, all forums are now aligned for me.
<tr align="center">
<td class="thead" width="15"> </td>
<td class="thead" width="100%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td>
<td class="thead" width="250">$vbphrase[last_post]</td>
<td class="thead" width="40">$vbphrase[threads]</td>
<td class="thead" width="40">$vbphrase[posts]</td>
<if condition="$vboptions[showmoderatorcolumn]">
<td class="thead">$vbphrase[moderator]</td>
</if>
</tr>
Keep in mind you have to have a set width for all the other columns so the 100% from this one doesn't interfere with them. Hope it works for you guys too.

There are several things that bother me about the current style your using. First thing is, on your header it says you designed and coded the style. While you may have made it from scratch in Photoshop, you obviously did not design it. The design was a collaboration between myself and my Professional Graphics Technician. He did every bit of the graphic work based on his idea's and a few of mine for the graphic design. We would appreciate if you did not use your current style as it is a clone of our style, in which took a lot of time to design and incorperate. Again we'd appreciate it if you could come up with your original graphics your website. Thanks.
Also, being that your looking to start a site, might I suggest that you come up with something all your own. Our site was criticized early on because we looked to much like another site a lot of us came from. So when we decided to work on this theme we wanted something different from anything anyone had seen before graphically with the colors, header, and graphics.
We wish you the best of luck with your site and hope you can understand our reasoning in wanting you to go another direction graphically. Thanks, and have a nice day.

Well, this is the first mod I have ever done to VB (I'm running 3.03) and it worked right off the bat. :) I used some colored dummy images so I could tell what's going onscnreen before I make up my final images.
I never bothered to do a thing with the category strips background, but I'm assuming whatever background I put in Style Manager > All Style Options > Category Strips > Background will appear between my left & right images.
I have one question that I didn't find (sorry if it's been posted). The spacing values of 5px 5px 5px 5px stand for, what? Which number puts the pixel spaces where? Is it left, right, top bottom or similar?

How do I take off the border on the category so when I have category images like I have in the image there isn't that border around it so it makes it look square when really it's rounded.
im just getting really weird results, I tried everyone else's fixes but no good comes out of it. Anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong? How can I fix it?

Does this mod allow adding images to the MAIN category (the kind of category that doesn't allow posting)?
the main category as you can see in my attachment.
If not, how can this be done?
Tony G
02-21-2005, 02:42 AM
You can do that, but this mod won't do that for you. It depends, if you want 3 images going across (left, middle and right) then the mod will do that for you. If you want one image, and only on the side, then no.
TruthElixirX

What did I screw up? It won't let me add the image to the place it says "Main Category" or is it supposed to?
www.punktek.com/forums
EDIT:: See where those images are showing up (They're just test images..I'm not that bad. :D) I want them to show up on the Main Category and Category 2. They need ot be on either side much like I've seen but somehow I screwed up. Do I need to post my forumhome template coding or? >.<. I can't revert cause I already had some mods made to it.
EDIT 2:: I just completely deleted it. I'm gonig to try re-installig it.
Hello,
For those that were wondering, this does work on 3.0.7. I just installed it, and the installation went flawless. For those of you that are not seeing the space between the forums, it is a simple fix. There is a typo in the instructions.
In your forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost you are told to place this at the VERY bottom.
<div style="padding: 5px 5px 5px p5x;"></div>
If you look at the numbers, the last 5px is written incorrectly. You should actually add this:
<div style="padding: 5px 5px 5px 5px;"></div>
If you have done everything as you were instructed, and make this change that is posted, the spacing will appear.
Also, if you use massive graphics for your top cat., the bottom one might appear not to work. I had this problem. Once I shrunk my cat images down, the bottom and top appeared as they were supposed to.
I would show an example, but I played with this on my test site before I actually install it on my real site.

I solved this by not making the corners transparent. I colored them the color of the background.

I believe it gets put just before the graphic for your top right corner. To move it more to the right, you can shrink the size of your corner.

07-13-2005, 03:46 AM
Actually I've found a way of doing it too. Basically, you put your code in as per Zachery's mod instructions, but you don't put an url to the tcat image in the category CSS section in the style manager. Instead, you put the same colour as your page background is. Voila, you now have "transparent" corners. Took me ages to work that out, lol.
