A Tidy Quotes for vB3 has already been released.

http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mods/showthread.php?t=3874&highlight=Tidy

Although yours looks like a different design, I guess they are far from being the same? :)

Nice mod.

hmmm... ok wait a little i'll will post the fix to that.

Elmer
08-24-2003, 12:42 AM
Ok here is the fix..

Find in the Quote With name, for this html code:

<td width="100%" background="images/quotes/quot-bye-bg.gif" align="left" valign="middle">
<span class="smallfont">Originally Posted by: <b>{option}</b></span>
</td>

and replace it with this:

<td width="100%" background="images/quotes/quot-bye-bg.gif" align="left" valign="middle" nowrap="nowrap">
<span class="smallfont">Originally Posted by: <i><b>{option}</b></i></span>
</td>

If you want just copy and paste, than download the zip file again. I have expanded the table to 70% instead of the 50% it was before and adding <i> to the quoted actor

take a look a THIS (http://www.2spoemas.com/foros/showthread.php?t=643) post to see how looks now.

If you want to change the with to the Simple Quote , just change to the firt <table> tag the with 50% for 70% ;)

You may want to make a note that you need to increase the amount of images allowed per post as these images currently do count towards the limit (I had to raise the limit, as mentioned before, here at vBT).

Do you mean centered in the postbit? if is that what you want than put align="center" in the first <table> tag.

Fix for the maximages problem

Note that just increasing the maximum number of images in Admin CP is not a good solution because if someone wants to put lots of quotes in their posts, they will hit the maximum - each quote has a minimum of 5 images. 10 quotes would be 50 images.

A better solution is to do this:

In the BBCode section for both Simple and Username Quotes, find in the HTML every instance of:

<img SRC="images/quotes

And replace with:

<img WIDTH="15" SRC="images/quotes

and delete the second occurance of WIDTH="15" in each of the img tag.

You do this 5 times in the Simple Quote, and 7 times (I think) in the Quote with Username.

Then, you need to do some hacking - apologies if this is not allowed - it's only a minor hack.

In includes/functions_newpost.php, find:

fetch_character_count(parse_bbcode($post['message'], $foruminfo['forumid'], $post['enablesmilies']), '<img') > $vboptions['maximages'])

Replace with:

fetch_character_count(parse_bbcode($post['message'], $foruminfo['forumid'], $post['enablesmilies']), '<img src') > $vboptions['maximages'])

That should do it. The quoting images will now NOT be counted as an image in posts. Smilies and other images will still be counted as usual.

Dexter,

This is a really pretty mod, but I have a problem.

If anyone can tell me what to put in the tag box for Quoting with username, in the BB Code Manager, (as I deleted it by mistake) I would be very grateful.

My simple quotes work fine but my quote with username no longer works, it just says Quote. Oh dear.

I am using v3 beta 6.

Help please someone.

The following errors occured when this post was submitted:
You have included too many images in your signature or in your previous post. Please go back and correct the problem and then continue again.

Images include use of smilies, the vB code [img] tag and HTML <img> tags. The use of these is all subject to them being enabled by the administrator.

Thats the mesage I am getting when I try to quote a message, what can I do to fix this?

Dexter, I simply can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I cut and pasted the text exactly into the bbcode_quote, and uploaded the folder with the images in it to the misc directory of my images. I just can't figure it out. www.theapostleofgod.com/forums is my board. I know you're busy, but if you could maybe try to quote something, and see what happens, I would appreciate it. It... doesn't do anything.

Elmer
11-23-2003, 10:40 PM

just look like the directory doesn't exist
ensure that you have that folder in the correct images folder for you forums and even if you have uploaded to the misc folder of the one spesified in the estyle you are currently using.

[Edit Again] Fixed it, bit of a bug i must have had when it ported over old vB2 styles on my online board. Runs sweet, nice mod, thanks! :)

Actually, this is a problen with gamma. In the extra CSS there is a line to align the imgs to the middle "img { vertical-align: middle; }

If you erase that, will work correctly but some other images in your forum will not apear correctly i think ..

In RC1 that problem has been solved so I suggest you to upgrade asap ;)

Thank you Faranth, it worked like a charm. It also took care of that 'high chunk' that would appear at the bottom of the categories. It looks really nice now. Now, all I need is for the cells to align properly in categories, a welcome panel, and I'm good to go :D

Thanks again!

Right now I'm trying to fit it into my vb 2.2.8
I just can't get the "quote with name" thing to work... but I'll find something out.
btw... in vb 2.2.8 the font size is like normalfont, any ideas how to make that smaller, it says it's smallfont but... hmm...
Did you get it to work with 2.2.8?
If so, how do you do it?

I have 2 questions regarding this modification.

1) will it be compatable with "vBulletin Version 3.0.0 Release Candidate 2"

and

2) can the quote box be made wider at a set size? Say 400 pixels or maybe bigger?

I'm trying to incorporate it onto these forums http://www.parent-2-parent.com/forum/index.php? and would like the quotes to all be the same width, but larger.

Thanks!
Dawn

StarBuG
01-20-2004, 08:28 PM
Works fine for RC2 no problems at all.

to 2) I just got a quick look for size definitions and it seems dynamical
You could change the % size in the < table > tags to your desired width ( minus the fix sizes for the grafics left, right and middle for quote or quote with name)
(It wouldn?t always be the EXACT same size cause a longer username add?s more px to the width then a shorter you only could make a fix size for the quote with name box as well that is wide enough to fit your largest username but I don?t think if this would look good)

Then it should fit fine into your forum

Greetings

StarBuG

ps: I hope this makes sence cause I?m totaly stoned :D

I did a 404 check on my server and whilst most of the images are being called from images/misc/quotes the missing ones are being called from 'images/misc/quotes - that's'images with a ' so what did I do wrong?

Fix for the maximages problem

Note that just increasing the maximum number of images in Admin CP is not a good solution because if someone wants to put lots of quotes in their posts, they will hit the maximum - each quote has a minimum of 5 images. 10 quotes would be 50 images.

A better solution is to do this:

In the BBCode section for both Simple and Username Quotes, find in the HTML every instance of:

<img SRC="images/quotes

And replace with:

<img WIDTH="15" SRC="images/quotes

and delete the second occurance of WIDTH="15" in each of the img tag.

You do this 5 times in the Simple Quote, and 7 times (I think) in the Quote with Username.

Then, you need to do some hacking - apologies if this is not allowed - it's only a minor hack.

In includes/functions_newpost.php, find:

fetch_character_count(parse_bbcode($post['message'], $foruminfo['forumid'], $post['enablesmilies']), '<img') > $vboptions['maximages'])

Replace with:

fetch_character_count(parse_bbcode($post['message'], $foruminfo['forumid'], $post['enablesmilies']), '<img src') > $vboptions['maximages'])

That should do it. The quoting images will now NOT be counted as an image in posts. Smilies and other images will still be counted as usual.

Really cool hack but do have 1 question... Where is <img SRC="images/quotes at? I have searched every file and the database as well but cant find any instances of it. If it helps I am running vb3 gold.

Also, I was trying to install, but in step 3 it says
"3. Look for the "Simple Quoting" section and click Edit "

I son;t have a simple quoting section. It's all blank.. just a button to add new BBcodes.

Should I be adding this as a new BBCode?

Any help is greatly appreciated..

OK i finally figured out how to get to the code.. but I ma still lost.
This is what I have in my section..

<div style="margin:20px; margin-top:5px; <if condition="$show['iewidthfix']">width: 100%;</if>">
<div class="smallfont" style="margin-bottom:2px">$vbphrase[quote]:</div>

<td class="alt2" style="border:1px inset">

<div style="font-style:italic">$message</div>
<else />
$message
</if>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>

What should I do with this? I am using VB 3.0.1 I had put in the code in the text file.. but it didn;t work. I then looked and saw to seperate entries.. So now I am lost in step 5 & 6..

I have had this installed and it works fine for the most part. My question is, is it possible to have the size of the quote "bubble" automaticaly resize depending on the amount of text inside the quote? As you can see from my screen shot, mine has a lot of "extra" space inside and it doesn't look that good.

I'm having an interesting issue. I wanted it left aligned in my posts so I added the align="left" and wound up with this. Suggestions? Adding three line breaks at the end of the table seemed to fix it if there's only a small amount of text but not for larger amounts.

There was also a typo in the code for RoundedQuotes_vB3[1].0.1.txt:
style="margin-top: 5px; marin-bottom: 5px; width:$stylevar[codeblockwidth];"

Missed a g for the margin. :)

It works but I still get this white line across the text. How can I get rid of it and also can something be done to wrap the quote just around the text and not all the way?? Thanks

It was easier than i thought:

Here's what i did:

1. Log into admin panel
2. Go to Styles manager -> Edit all templates
3. Open the BB Code category and doubleclick on the BB code QUOTE template
4. PASTE the .txt attach of the first message in this thread
5. Upload quotes folder to your /forums/images/misc folder

Try it! ;)
Followed these directions and it worked like a charm!

Installed!

Ok I got it to work, but when not quoting a member, just using [quote]test[_/quote] it still brings up the Orginally posted by: field without the username...how can I fix this to take out this field.

I don't know why it's happening that but try replacing the code again. I'm using the same modification posted in the first post here and I'm not getting that error

I am having some odd text wrapping with FireFox and a quote box w/o a user specified.

The text will wrap after about 30 characters?

See pic.

Any ideas on a fix?

Otherwise it looks great.

Thanks

How can one make the width always the same as it is here? Caus that's bugging me. Small boxes and big boxes with quotes... Not really nice looking IMO... So how do I get the thing working with a fixed width? I used the txt file on the first page and it works perfectly from the start, exept for the width that is variable...

I am running vBulletin 3.0.7. I added this little hack and it works for the most part, except, instead of the text being quoted it just says "{param}". See attachment.

- Gerry

P.S. Your directions in the text file within the Zip file didn't make sense as I had no "Simple Quoting" section for the Custom BB Codes. IN fact, I have NO custom BB codes at all! So, I added the code to the "BB Code Quote" in the Style/Template manager.

Lexina, if you only use one board style, hard-code the font color in the template.

Use this to have it work properly on 3.07 also change the 2 #colour values near the end of the code to match the background for light or dark skins...upload the quote folder to forum /images. Works %100 for me.

Yes .. at the top of the guide it says it is written for vBulletin 3.5 ...

which would explain the different layout he is describing in the admin CP.

In "Custom BB Codes" in vB3 .. it is just that.. only the custom codes you've made before.

Great work love It :)

I noticed a few members asking for images to use on dark forums, I had to convert them for myself so I thought I'd share ;)

The images make white speech bubbles with a transparent background, all optimised. hope this helps a few people out.

while the regular hack is working fine for me, the 'dark style' version is not. images seem to show up ok, but text is whited out.. can anyone help?

That's the thing, this is in the vB3.0 mods section. :ermm:

There should be a section in the read-me for those who aren't in vb3.5 yet if it's going to be in this section. If anyone's having problems like me and defence did, you basically need to create two quote tags in the bb code manager, the file in the zip has the code on top for no name, and the one on the bottem is with name. Then the other text download goes in the template.
