New style = awsome

Except I few thing I dont like:

1. Is there a 'View new posts' link anywhereon forumhome?
2. WTF is up with this smiley = :D ?

1. Not that I can see, should be there.
2. Might take some time to get used to those smilies. :p

1) Not yet, it was edited out for now, though I will make a note to add it back tomorrow afternoon. I need to finish a few other things up quickly, if I have time tonight then I will add it.

2) Those are the new smilies for now ;). More will be added, but it may take others a bit more time to get used to :). I seem to like them a bit more as it is away from teh standard :).

Thanks much everyone :).

Yes, I did make the smilies, didn't take too long, the whole style was basically a coulple days of thought, looking at the vBT Design, and editing work :).

Are you still planning to port the old vBT 2 style to vB3 and impliment that here as an option? Would love to see it in action. :)

Brad

Me thinks the pm line in the header would be much better with a link to the pm center :).

SaintDog
08-07-2003, 06:51 AM
Tony: Yes, it still will be ported :) It will be added as a second style for those wishing to use it!

Brad: Click on private messages ;).

Yeah, it's good that you kept the button theme everywhere. :)

great one, awsome colors and great icons :)

But:

1.) while reading the post, the icon next to "Threaded" is not in the same line as "Threaded"

2.) Smilies? ehm, no please :D

3.) the top navigation would look nicer with a mouseover effect :)

4.) you can't see wether it is a link or normal font :(

SaintDog
08-07-2003, 11:24 AM
1) The font issues will be addressed this afternoon when I have a good amount of free time to dedicate to further changes

2) I am not particular to roll-overs as JS just adds to the load time of a page or the multiple pages

3) I very much like the smilies ;). I can't stand the standard ones and it's time for a change away from the current standards :).

4) The threaded section will be fixed as well. I am still thinking of better icons for such; none have yet come :).

The smilies are good. It might be harder to recongnise what the smilie is a first, but you will get used to them in due time. A change like that takes time to get used to.

SaintDog
08-07-2003, 11:42 AM
Yeah, it takes a little bit of time to get used to changes, though, it is this style or the other ;). I don't think but a few members actually liked the last style so this one is a large improvement over what was here :).

IMO there needs to be much more difference between the on and off images; they're hard to tell at a glance.

Also Trebuchet MS at this site looks horrible in non-Cleartype systems (like my Windows 2000 work system).

Looking at it in Safari now...

Was looking over things on a 2000 machine last night at a neighbors house and it looked fine to me (I didn't go into detail, but it looked fine), same for Win98 (not saying much, I know ;)).

I second a mouse-over effect. I think it would make a nice addition (as well as being incredibly easy, they are nice to see).

Its a nice effect, but I agree with saintdog.

Its a nice effect, but I agree with saintdog.
It depends on how you do it, if you pre-load the images then, maybe 1/2 seconds longer, if you dont, then it could be faster?

(That's how I see it anyway)

I havent played with them much, I tend to avoid JS when I can as alot of users have it turned off.

That is what I was thinking as well, many turn it off because of the load time it induces for those on lower connections (i.e. 28.8, 56k, ISDN).

If you could possible make the postbit so that the signatures don't float and stay at the bottom of each post, I would buy this skin then.

SaintDog

A 'new posts' image has been added to the navigation bar at this time which will allow you to search for new postings here at the vBT Community. The style at vBT Design will be updated with the same soon enough.

HexOnxOnx - I will look into that as soon as possible.

Thank you SaintDog:)

Also, http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mods/vb3bluesaint/folder_dot_new.gif is still there old, original icon.

SaintDog

heh, thanks, I had a feeling I missed one of those important, yet hardly noticed icons :) -- I will take care of that on the next update when I update both styles!

Thanks again!

IMO there needs to be much more difference between the on and off images; they're hard to tell at a glance.

I cannot begin to emphasize how much I agree with this statement. It was the second thing that I noticed almost immediately about the new look and feel; the first thing being the new look and feel.

Distinguishing between new threads or threads with new posts and old/inactive threads is very hard on the eyes. :(

SaintDog

I will see what I can do, though I don't really understand how it is hard to see a white arrow as being on and a blank square being off.

I don't mean to be rude and take all suggestions to heart, though it seems to be easy to tell what is what. If you mentioned the posting icons (i.e. the ones that mark such as hot, one you have replied to, ect) I could understand as it is a new mix of symbols, but the on/off icons are rather easy to tell apart when viewing.

SaintDog, great job on the style, I love it!!! My only suggestion would be, as other have said, to change the smilies because they are a bit weird looking :).

SaintDog
08-09-2003, 06:53 PM
heh -- so far I think they are #1 on comments ;).

Tony G

I'm having alot of trouble telling between the new post threads and old post threads. I end up having to look at the date to find out if I've seen new posts or not.

SaintDog
08-12-2003, 01:44 PM
heh, I will say that the icons are different and they will take some adjusting to for most. The icons are very easy to read, imo; if not, there is a legend available for such which will detail them :).

Tony G
08-13-2003, 05:48 AM
Yes, but color differences are much more recongnisable then a pattern change within the same color. It can be very confusing and doesn't stand out at all (between new posts and non-new posts)

SaintDog
08-13-2003, 07:02 AM
I will work to move the less active icons to more grey while leaving the active ones to blue; that should fix the viewing problems that some seem to have.

For a monotone style, it's pretty awesome! I would suggest a bit mroe thought into the smilies... They're awesome, but hard to tell apart. Look at these and I'll show you what I mean:  :) ;) :D

How many of those were plainly obvious as to what they were at first glance?

I don't know what rez you run at, SD, but for 1152x864 users, those smilies look a lot alike, because only 2 or 3 pixels change... Other than that, I love it!

Just noticed that some icons are still the original ones, and the invisible icon is the default one too;):)

Tony G
08-29-2003, 09:36 AM
Yeah, the original one for new post was reported some time ago. But still not fixed.

SaintDog
08-29-2003, 05:10 PM
All that has to be done is sent the problems to my e-mail box, the new images will be covered and by request, sent off :).

I have no problem fixing what is wrong with the style, just need to be notified :).

the forward button on the PM screen isn't present here.

SaintDog
09-10-2003, 01:49 PM
it can be done and will be added on the next update, though it was never actually a button, at least that I have seen ;).

it can be done and will be added on the next update, though it was never actually a button, at least that I have seen ;). it comes up as a link as opposed to a button on the style itself.

cool

Someone already asked this at vb.com and it was stated that the link will be replaced with an actual button in the rc release.

SaintDog

It will be fixed as needed and updated as well, don't fret :).
