View Full Version : [release] Progress bar in newreply

Author: filburt1
Description: adds a live progress bar and character counter to newreply to replace the [check message length] link.
Screenshot: next post

Because of speed limitations the progress bar does not update with every keystroke, but rather every two seconds. Also, its color depends on how much you've typed (>80% is red, >60% is yellow, anything else is green).

Requires IE5.5, at least for the live counter. Not sure about the progress bar itself.

I like this.

Would this work if I put it in newthread as well?:)

I'm guessing yes just because I don't see why it shouldn't.

I was trying to make something like this too, not a bar but the stupid java wouldn't work! >_<

This will count though, nice work.

Maybe, depends on how the form is coded.

very nice :) i installed this, adding it to newthread, and quick reply :)

works for all of the above, so anybody asking if it works, all you have to do is repeate the steps in the txt file for all the templates you want to do this mod too

As psyblast said it can be added to newthread and q-reply in the same way as newreply. I did add a
and retain the:
[check message length]
that way anyone who's browser doesn't utilize the count, progress bar or whatever can still check message length somehow. I may also add a note about it not working in all browsers. How to do it in a clean way is what I am trying to figure out now. Nice addition though!

It works perfectly fine for me, make sure you don't have any hacks installed.

Nice hack, Filburt. I noticed that it causes the browser screen to "blink" ever so slightly as I am typing though. Anyone else noticed that?

(apologies if this was already mentioned; haven't read the whole thread yet)

filburt1

It does it every five seconds or so which is when it updates the counter and progress bar. If it did it with every keystroke the typing would lag.

I installed it but it doesn't show any character count. It stays at 0, so where do I need to go to put in the character count. I just used it in my quick reply box area.

filburt1
02-28-2003, 11:35 AM
It was designed only to work with the full reply form and nothing else.
