I'm not sure if they are too similar so I'll take it up with the other moderators.

looks way different to me...

The code is different, but the outcome is more similar. I dunno, sorry.

If the code is different, it may stay upon the decision of the other mods. As long as it is not an exact copy and is somewhat different, it is ok.

I didn't know it was already released. Sorry for re-making it. :)

IMHO the two are different enough to justify keeping both.

Two against nothing, so it stays. Sorry for any inconvienience DemonZ!

This is much more different, being co-admin of FFE, i know he did not copy. And this one is much better you can have tables and such instead of just one ugly nothing table...
assassingod
11-27-2002, 04:55 PM
Im not saying he copied it:)
I was just pointing out there was alread a mod like this.
Anyway, I like this one more - Thanks DemonZ

Is this template mod something similar to FFRepublic.com's? Also, does it have the login code in the table after you logout? If not, I don't need it. If so, I will use it.
~Thanks.

You can edit to make it like FFRepublic's if you wish, but I would ask afterlab (there admin) first. Other wise you could get into trouble. ;)
I am working on a newer version of the Side Menu, and I will be releasing it shortly. But it may require you to install some hacks from vb.org.

You would have to create another table.
Nice mod, I was going to use the other one and go through to trouble of doing the tables my self but this will help out alot. I'll go ahead and click install but I won't install it until I make some changes on my site.

Geeze it's only code! not like you have to compare inch by inch... of course thats my opinion, had it been identical it would be a different story....
great job nonetheless, don't let people put you down.. sometimes it's better to keep hacks/mods to yourself, otherwise your open for criticism.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been working on other things.
Too add another box below the previous box:
FIND THIS:
<b>Online User Count:</b> $totalonline
</smallfont>
</td></tr>
</table>
ADD UNDER:
<br>
<table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="100%" bgcolor="#000000">
<tr><td bgcolor="{tableheadbgcolor}">
<smallfont><b><!-- TABLE NAME --></b></smallfont></td></tr>
<tr><td width="100%" bgcolor="{categorybackcolor}"><b /><normalfont><!-- Sub Name --></b /></normalfont>
</td /></tr />
<tr><td width="100%" valign"top" bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}">
<!-- Start Box Information -->
<!-- End Box Information -->
</td></tr>
</table>
Obviousy, replace the following:
<!-- TABLE NAME --> with Your Side Menu Category.
<!-- Sub Name --> with Your Side Menu Sub Category.
You can copy this code over and over to make more and more boxes.

*cheers* Yeah good thing someone answered cause I cant explain it well enought ot other people how to do it :)
Oh yeah demon you have to edit your code paste...just hit return at the end of the line where the code wraps in the edit window. VB lkikes to NOT wrap the code tagged stuff.

I like the idea very mch. Hundred times better as the default. Why doen't they change the ulgy design - doen't they realise how iditioc does it looks?

We use to run something similar to this on my boards, but we don't anymore and I've been looking for it again. Just curious, does this mod allow the sidemenu to be taken off by the user as well?
For instance, where some users can hide the sidemenu to have the normal forum view while others can have it enabled with having the sidemenu??
Vladdy
03-08-2003, 08:12 PM
I really want to use this, however I would like for my members to hide it if they don't want it.
What would I code to have an option to either "show" or "hide" this sidebar?
Vladdy

Also how would I put it on the left side of my forums? I can't figure it out, lol, I've had it all over the place, above, below, but can't get it on the left, lol...

For some reason my Side Menu looks very weird, heres whats wrong with it.
1. The Sidemenu is Squished against the corner
2. The Colors (But I Guess I could go back and edit the colors manually)
How would I fix the Sidemenu Issue?
Screenshot Attached (Bad Quality... but you'll see what im talkin about)

has anybody attempted porting this to vb3?
I've heard a member did install this on vb3 beta 6.
I am deciding whether to install or not and I am a bit concerned if there might a problem.

I just looked at the code and wow, it is very simple.
On the right column, instead of having statistics and what not, how do I simply add a sponsor image?

While I haven't tested this with vB 3, I do use it on 2.3.0 and it works just fine and don't see why it won't work with vB3 as it's just simple tables, nothing that requires vB to work or not.

Let's say I wanted to have the sidebar on a forum display only, but not on forum home. For instance, I'm running one template for the top level of my forums, but a couple forums have their own templates. Thus, they aren't top level, but I would like a sidebar to show on these. Would I have to modify a different template with the same sort of thing?

Same question as vladdy here - I've had that bar just about EVERYWHERE, but I didn't manage to get it to the left side yet. how could i do that?
Cheers!

I've got this mod installed in a few places - very easy to do, looks very nice. But I have a layout question. In the forums where there is not a ton of activity, and there aren't very many threads, the threadlist is centered vertically relative to the sidemenu. This is an issue because my sidemenu is huge. Can anyone offer a tip as to how I might go about aligning the top of the threadlist with the top of the sidemenu?
Here's a link as an example of what I'm talking about: http://www.groundtradesxchange.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=32
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

I can help.
I just modified this code to put into my VB3 gold. I got rid of alot of useless stuff I'm assuming was needed for VB2.
in the forumhome template find
<!-- main -->
add above:
<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="100%">
<td align="center" width="90%">
find: <!-- /main -->
add below:
<!-- sidemenu -->
</td>
<td width="1%"></td>
<td align="left" valign="top" width="8%">
<table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="100%" bgcolor="000000">
<tr>
<td width="100%" valign"top">
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</div />
</td>
</table>
<!-- /sidemenu -->
The other hack seemed to be more complicated then it had to be. With this code it will just put a 120x600 skyscraper box on the right hand side (perfect for ads).

Does this address my issue or the one from RichieBoy? (Either way, thanks for addressing it. :) )

I just figured this out - changing the above <td align="center"> to <td valign="top"> does the trick.
Otherwise, unless the vertical space taken up by your forums (or threads in forum display, or posts in showthread) is larger than the sidebar/side menu, you will have an uneven look at the top of the page.
