About:
Since people have been bugging SaintDog and asking about this, I released it! These are taking from my postbit, and so they might be different looking but nothing that some begginer HTML couldn't do because my postbit is modified a lot! :D
Musts:
You must have the "Break Up Posts" hack by Mist:
http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mods/showthread.php?s=&threadid=394
Description:
This will add images above and below each post in a thread!
Screenshot:
Just look at the images above and below this post of mine!
Here! Have fun!

Thanks, but if something looks weird, then just look through the code. Because my postbit is quite different so it may look different on mine then yours but nothing some begginers HTML couldn't fix!
That's only if it looks weird though, I shouldn't think it would though.

looks weird on mine... there's a better way of doing this im sure.... *ponders on that thought*

I said if it looks weird look at the code and find any mistakes. There also might be one, but this is the easiest I think.

Man, talk about not having time. If you don't have time to make 3 images, I have to question if you have time to run a bulletin board.
Creating those images would depend on the design and style of your board.

Great nifty add-on, I'll defiantly consider using. And yes, making images is far less involving them running a board, so it should be very hard for you.

If you don't mind, do you guys who have installed it think you could click the "Install" button? Thanks.

Uhm...
Odd the images I added both are too width for some reason.. Already fooled around with the widt settings... but no change.
Anybody has an idea?
dmjof
07-25-2002, 10:30 PM
It should work, just put the middle image at 100% then the sides and whatever width the image is and it should fit perfect.
HHawk
07-25-2002, 10:43 PM
Uhm...
Probably I did something wrong then...
Cause it looks kinda like this:
xxxoooxxx
eeeeee
xxxoooxxx
xxxoooxxx = top and bottom images
eeeee = post body
I know this is kinda sucky, I'll try to make a screenshot later on if still unclear, but my SS utility gives me a few problems (doesn't want to start up).
Thanks for any ideas & solutions

Since nobody could help me I made a screenshot of my problem.
I did exactly as you ordered in txt file. But still the outcome was a bit bugged (size).

Firstly you can remove the images taken from here that you just re-colored . What is it with people? Do you honestly think I made this design (or any of my designs) for you to steal, recolor, or claim credit for? If you think that, you are very wrong. That rip forum is looking nicer each day.....

Do I make the catmiddle as long as I want it to appear or do I make it VERY thin(like how the poll images are)?

You have to start by making an example of people. Ban people that attempt to postbit and template mods that are yours and you can easily see that.
Eventually people will understand.

1. I just wanted to show my problem.
2. It's currently local, so NOBODY sees this, except this screenshot here.
3. I never ever use other people's work. I hate it.
4. Don't start accusing people from start. I never wished harm to you nor your board / websites / designs / etc.
5. So if somebody makes 3 squares and turns them say 30 degrees, it's a ripoff of yours? I doubt that. Then you will get people who turn it 35 degrees. And then it's their design... See this never ends. And your design inspired me. :/
In any case, I edited the postbit, in something simpler for the moment, so I don't get flamed again. And also, I'm planning to use circles. If thats alright with everyone here.
Also I didn't mean to piss anybody off with this or any of my previous post, it just made me mad that I get flamed right away, just for showing an example of my problem.

Good idea.
Okay I have this weird problem, I did exactly everything which was in the .txt file. But I get this weird problem:
www.linkplanet.nl/problem.gif
It gets too much stretched, I already tried to change the middle size a bit see if that helps, but that makes it only worse.
Did I do anything wrong? And should I retry again? Or is there something else the problem?

But still without succes... :/
Can someone please help me?
Please check my postbit.txt.
Maybe anyone of you can find out what I'm doing wrong?
*** Edited : added attachment.

Hawk, you need to post it as an attachment please, and not in the thread. It warps the forums when you include it in your post.

HHawk, see how you have before the left and right images "<td width="40">"? Try removing the "width="40"" part so you have just a "<td>".

you need to in your main styles place make your forum 100% width
HHawk
07-29-2002, 04:25 PM
Nai: sorry that didn't work. :(
ZiRu$: Thanks mate that worked, BUT do I have to put it at 100% width? It makes my forum look a bit uglier... :(
Isn't there a workaround fix for it? :(
mashby
07-30-2002, 03:13 AM
Well you can either make it a fixed width, like it is here at vBT, or 100%. It really depends on the graphics that you're using.
For example, if your posbit header image is 450 pixels, then you'll want that cell to not exceed that width, so you'd use <td width="450"> for the exact pixel width.

i managed to get this to work by actually removing my added space mod :s
HHawk
07-30-2002, 03:40 PM
@ mist: was your comment meant for me?
@ mashby: Sorry probably I'm stupid or something cause I can't get it right.
Cause if I change the main size to lets say 75% the images fit perfectly, but the main forum gets larger... :/
I hope you can understand what I mean... It's a nasty problem.. Nobody else has this problem, except for me? :(

Ok, I took a look at your postbit. I'm not sure this fixes the problem, but you had a lot of messed up code. Table problems mostly.
I've cleaned it up, replace your postbit and see if this fixes it. If not, let me know.

Thanks for your time mashby...
But the images are still not good, same as before...
Edit:
I also used dreamweaver a couple of times to see what causes the images not to fit with the post size... But couldn't find it.. :(
Edited more:
Oops forgot to put up my updated version of the postbit... :/
Here it is... sorry for the trouble.. :/
HHawk

Additional info:
(Don't know if it's useful for you)
Main Table Width: 75%
Content Table Width: 75%
When I put them both at 100% everything shows up fine... Though I dislike the layout then... :/

If memory serves, I think SaintDog recommended making the entire forum a fixed. Sounds like that's what you need to do.

Uhm...
This is just the link to the tutorial about how to make bg images on your main forum index. I already did that.
The current & only option I have now is to run this forum at
Main Table Width: 100%
Content Table Width: 100%
In order to make those bg images in the postbit show & fit correctly.
Though it's all at a maximised size now (the whole forum).
I rather see it at 75% width, looks so much nicer.
Also coming back to the link you referred me to, I used Method 1, so it only appears on categories.
Idea:
Maybe if I added colspan=6 to those postbit images part, would that work?
In any case, almost 3 AM here, and I'm off to bed now. I'll read your responses in the morning. Good night.

When fixed width was mentioned, fixed width would be in pixels, not percentages, vBulletinTemplates is set at 750.
HHawk
07-30-2002, 11:57 PM
nm got my problem fixed.
Wasn't that hard. :)
I just changed the size instead of 100% to 720px and now it works.
Any case thanks for all the help.
@ Saintdog: Sorry I saw your reply a bit late. In any case I tested it with different resolutions, it seems that 720 pixels works best for me for users from 800x600+ (I'm using 1280x1024 myself).
Again thanks for everyone who helped me with this.

I'm getting a weird space under the middle cell of the bottom category image. It's like it's filling in extra space (with my categorybackcolor or tableheadbgcolor I'm not sure).
I added table borders so you could see where the cells are.
screenshot (http://www.after-darkness.com/postbitimage.gif)
You can see that extra dark purple region under the gradient image.
Can anyone help? Thanks :)

Hmmm. Are the images the same height? The right and left graphics appear to have a black base and the middle a purple, which leads me to perhaps the two images are different sizes, or the <td align="foo"> aren't the same. Just a thought.
Cassandra Cain
08-02-2002, 01:50 AM
The are the same size - I made one big rectangle and then just cropped it into three pieces. And the images above the post are just mirrors of the bottom, and they work fine. This is actually the third set of graphics I've made, and it has happened with all three.
Something weird I noticed is that if I remove all the buttons, or if I add them as images only (removing the a href from each of them) it works fine. As soon as I add an a href I get that extra space. I thought it might be a cellpadding issue, but I've tried setting them all to 0 and that doesnt work.
The buttons are the same height as the background image as well.
:)

Check your tables. I looked at your code and there's some weirdness going on. I think you have some cells missing and closed tags missing.

This mod is making the posts stretch... I dont see why, because i have set the width of the images to the same size as my forums fixed width.... also i dont want to use three images... so im just using 2 images- one for the top and one for the bottom.. this error is strange to me because its seems that everything in my template is set right. my postbit has never been modified besides the "break up post" mod... any ideas on why this happening? Any responce is appreciated. thnx

Hi there. I know its an old post and this is a probably silly question. Is there anyway to use this hack without having a space between the posts? Or can i changed it in any way so that the space doesnt show?
Thanx in advace
