Hi there,
Maybe it is a nice idea to make some kind of announcement or policy point-out to the users here, that everybody that registers here because they don't have a license and can't register for this reason on vbulletin.com should understand that if we find out or have a suspicion, can be reported to piracy@vbulletin.com
Just a thought.

I agree...but what if its someone like me that is currently waiting, because I almost have the money to buy my licence, and I'm just doing research...
Of course this system won't work when we have lots of users...

Thank you for agreeing, when someone like you is interested in purchasing vBulletin, then there is no problem. I mean. If you don't have it yet, there is nothing to report. Ofcourse, if you decide to use a warez version of vBulletin prior to purchase, well.. that wouldn't be so smart. (because even then, you are breaking copyright) Doing some research on what is possible with vBulletin never hurted anybody. vBulletin.com has a featureless version for download, a featured full version on-line for everybody to use and an full admin demo to check out the back-end. There is absolutly no reason for anybody to use a warez version prior to purchase. (not saying that you do)
This system is always hard to apply in a big community. But it is about the users who register and surf this site, that have to understand that this is a site that is only suppose to help those with a legal license. Each time I see a site of which I suspect it for running an illegal copy of vBulletin, I report it. And it is not only me who does it. Other guests, registered members and/or forum staff could do that.
The fight against warez is a hard thing to do, but I support this forum software to the max, and that includes tracking down illegal versions.
Pointing out to users who visit this site, that this site doesn't tolerate warez, (as most of the vBulletin related sites do) is something that I encourage.

i completely agree with that. great idea xiphoid. the case is a little different for me though. i dont actually have my own lisence or site. the person that owns the site doesnt do any hacking or template editing so i do all of it for him. he gave me access to vB.org (i think under the lisence info).
before you start wondering if i can go into the members area at vB.com and download vB, i cant.
just letting everyone know that i dont own a lisence or have my own site.

Said that, I think! that if someone suspects a site being 'warezed' and they report it. They check against the database and if it is ok, nothing will be done. Otherwise they will try to contact you.
Ofcourse each person has a different situation, and that is why you, me, saintdog, me and many others can only assume a site is running a warez version.
Yes, it is possible that you admin a site for someone else. I am involved with many sites like that. Of which a few are forums and likes. The owner of the license could add your registered forum nickname from vbulletin.org/com to their database to get premium support. They allow up to three nicknames. (at least, this is the info I have)

i was thinking and got an idea. make it mandatory for everyone to add a link to the site they are admin on in their signature. a person would have to be very stupid to give out a link to a warez board on an anti-warez board. if someone says they dont have a board yet, then i have no idea what to do, but ill try to think something up for those few people.

very good idea, after all thats what we pay our licence fees for isn't it,for the excellent support we recieve, this alone is worth the price of getting a licence, there are as mentioned loads of boards out there that are unlicenced, and I would have no hesitation in reporting these sites to vb.
I am led to believe that,if there is a case for an unlicenced board, that jelsoft contact the host, and that it is then their decision to close the board down or not,in which case if the host doesn't remove what would the scenario be then ?
As hosts especially paid ones would then be losing revenue unless the offending boards either payed for the priveledge of using vb or change to another board program like phpbb etc,any more thoughts on this ?

Can I please add to this thread that users who do not have a license, should stop writing E-mails/ PMsgs to me? Each suspicious board gets reported by me. So if you inform me that you can't download hacks from vBorg/com or here because you do not have a license, find yourself reported. I am receiving several per day. And I am not willing to help someone for free, who doesn't want to pay the license; while I had to.
Said that.
Nice idea's.

That about sums things up, if anyone is asking for a copy of vBulletin or asking for hacks, please report them to me with proof (forward the PM or e-mail to me) and I will take care of it.
