You have to set the forum at a fixed with (ie: in pixels) for some reason, you can not use percentages.

How come my banner and stuff are in a big long box instead of the box being around EVERYTHING.

I would figuere it is instead of bgcolor, you put background="images/image.gif" But I would wait for saintdog say i am correct

While you are partially correct, it would take a little extra coding to do image based borders.
How about put an index.html in the dir of your forum that is devided into 3 frames, 2 outside frames have your image border aligned so that they stick to your board :)
much simpler imo

I think you're looking for the [Release] Category Backgrounds template mod [link (http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mods/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10)]

the things mentioned in this topic, arent they the same as what is mentioned here:
http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mods/showthread.php?s=&threadid=125
just a matter of uploading a catbackround image to the images/frontpage folder?
im more asking how to modify that table so it looks like above^^ where its blue and kinda looks like a folder almost...

Ok, then I'm confused as to what you're asking. Are you looking for a way to add images to your categories, or to your posts, or both?
koalakb
07-18-2002, 09:18 PM
soryr to confuse you, im trying to ask, basically if you take this forum thread for instance. if you look at each of the posts, at the very top in blue where it says - Posted: 07-18-2002 at 10:34 PM in blue and on the left and right of that Blue border it looks like three layers ontop of each other. If you go here: http://yaxay.com/yack/ you will see the same outline but in blue, orange, and grey.
that is what i want, i want that "border" to be on my Forum homepage categories and on each individual posts as well
i hope i clarified better, i would take a SS but i dont have access to photoshop at the moment

Ok, now I know what you're looking for!
SaintDog has not released the mod you're looking for. You can find his explanation at this link (http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mods/showthread.php?s=&threadid=368).
However, what you're looking for is similar in nature to [Release] Category Backgrounds template mod [link (http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mods/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10)] and could be modified to work with your postbit.
What he's done (and I hope I don't get accussed of ripping here ;)) is to create a table with the following:
1. First cell includes the left image
2. Second cell includes a background image (see link above for the template mod) and the post title
3. Third cell includes the right image
4. He repeats the the similar process for the footer
I can see why SaintDog hasn't relased this just yet. There's a lot of options here in this template mod depending on how your postbit is configured. Plus, you have to have custom images.
I hope that helps!

Did you apply the template mod in this thread? If you did, you should have a border around your entire forum, just like it is here.

<font size="1">very nice! the text is great help for the new and un-developed coders...it makes it very easy to do.
also.. pixeljunction had a tutorial on how to do it once, except there's was on how to add graphic borders... and the tutorial was horrible in my eyes, it was very complicated to the new ones. However, Saintdog, you did an excellent job on keeping good instructions for the coder's to follow.
good work my friend,

in this part of the mod
.thtcolor {
COLOR: {tableheadtextcolor};
}
.bordert {
BORDER: 1px solid #6597D9;
}
Just change the #6597D9 to a different hex code. For example #000000 would make the border black #FFFFFF would make it white.
To change the width just change 1px to something like 3px, 4px, ect, ect

my border is around the WHOLE page..including around the background..
This is a very nice hack, but my page is too close to the left of the border. Is there any way I can center this?

Just a quick question, i installed and have no complaints, but i was wondering why there was a gap between the header, i dont want there to be a gap, in other words i just want it to be like a long column going down, no gap between the header and the browser footer/browser, if im not beeing clear enough i can post a Screen Shot.

when you modify the header code make sure its at the top, so that the head is in the table.

^_^ thanks alot!
but it still doesnt put an outline on the posts.... only on the forum home
Wooo I found a fix for the border not being around the posts!! Here it is:
In showthread find:
<!-- End content area table (CREATED IN HEADER!!) --></td>
</tr> </table>
and delete it then it should all work fine ;)

Looks like you just need to center your forums. Make sure in your header and in your footer in the style section that you have your center codes in the correct spots. Worse comes to worse just put one at the top and one at the bottom and see if that helps....
