Im confused could you explain more what this mouse over effect does?
SaintDog

When you place your mouse over a forum, it will "light-up", in other words it will switch to another color. When you take your mouse off of the forum, it will return to its normal color state.

you can see it on my forum http://forums.cybersportsnet.net

Hmm... one question: how do you make it so that it also has the same effect on sub-forums ?
For example: if I have a forum in a forum, how can I have the same effect on the sub-forum ?

I think you just need to apply it to the forumdisplay_levelX_(no)post templates

a small question, i've seen it before on another forum but i forget where
How would you get all the different parts to light up, like instead of just the forum, the moderators, posts, threds, and all the other bars, when you put your mouse over them

I applied this template mod and after doing so, all the threads have mouseovers now as well. I would suggest that you go back over the instructions, because if you apply the hack correctly, then you should have the effect you're looking for.

I like this hack a lot, but I think there is still room for improvement.
Let's say you have 50 forums on your vbulletin board.
Then that means that this code:
onMouseOver="this.style.backgroundColor='#F9F9F9';
this.style.cursor='hand';"
onMouseOut="this.style.backgroundColor='#FFFFFF';"
onClick="window.location.href='forumdisplay.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&forumid=$forum[forumid]'"
will be displayed 50 times, which adds easely 12 KB to your page. Filesize and bandwith are pretty important to me, so I'm wondering if some nifty JavaScript code in the header of the page can elimate the unwanted KB's, by making the MouseOver commands short, like this for example:
onMouseOver="highlight"
Just wondering if this is possible at all, since I'm not a JavaScript guru.

That's a good idea someone, but you'd probably have to do a google search to see if you could find a JavaScript Mouseover replacement.

Kazuya,
I've noticed that you've made posts like this on various threads. Allow me to explain.
What the text files contain are instructions on how to install this template mod. All you have to do is read the text and go step-by-step to make the changes on your board. Code is included in the instructions, but it's not just code.

What template did you last change? Go to that, you gotta somehow find the URL, then put in the original template. Works then

I didn't read through all the posts, so if anyone else posted that you could do this sorry. Ok, if you do not want your cursor to be a hand when it doesnt go over a link in the area you want to have highlighted, find
this.style.cursor='hand';"
And replace it with
this.style.cursor='normal';"
I did that with a previous forum I had, and didn't like the hand, so I changed it, and thought someone else put there might outta know and want to change it.

i'm not a Javascript guru either but i know that a similar effect can be acheived with using CSS to define a class and I think with Javascript you can define a class too. So the code goes in the header once and then you just associate the object in the page with the class.

For sub-forums go to "Forum Display Template" and click expand.
Then go to "forumdisplay_forumbit_level2_post" and edit it or change the original.
Find:
<td bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}" align="left">
and replace it with:
<td bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}" align="left" onMouseOver="this.style.backgroundColor='{secondaltcolor}';
this.style.cursor='hand';"
onMouseOut="this.style.backgroundColor='{firstaltcolor}';"
onClick="window.location.href='forumdisplay.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&forumid=$forum[forumid]'">
Then it will work in your immediate sub-forums...
