HTML or bbcode in Private Messages

Forgive me if this has been posted, but could not find a hack on this - want html or bbcode abilities in PMs - thx

Erm ... it's there by default.
ACP / vBulletin Options /vBulletin Options / Private Messaging Options
Allow vB Code in Private Messages = Yes
Allow HTML in Private Messages = Yes <-- Strongly NOT recommended

Do you know if I tunred on, sent, then tunred off & someone opened after it was turned off, would they see html?

If you used BBCode, they will see unparsed BBCode.
If you used HTML, they will see HTML.

last question - why is it strongly not recommended?

Security. You can do many nasty things with HTML.
