Which of thes MOD/HACK & features is server intensive?

I've just had a lot of bells and whistles installed which my members LOVE, but the activity on the site was so heavy today that it locked up my server. How come this site runs so fast even with HUNDREDS of members online? Mine slows down at about 170 online at a time...

Which of these are server intensive? What things can I tweak to help my ailing server?

- My avatars are set to 100x100 and 12k bytes
- uCash/uShop (only to be used for gifts & ribbons)
- Smilies (I have about a million...)
- Who's online
- Today's Birthdays (I turned that off today)
- Calendar
- Reputation
- Quick Reply
- Private messages (with pop up window)

I would doubt that your server is as powerful as the one this site sits on. That is why this site runs so fast, all other factors taken into consideration.

I got up to 950 users online at a time (476 at the momernt) and the site runs smooth, but:

The Web-Server is a Dual Xeon 2.4 Ghz with 4 GB RAM
The DB-Server is a Dual Xeon 2.8 Ghz with 4 GB RAM and RAID10 harddisks

=> Although optimizations are important, you will need horsepower to handle a bunch of users

Kirby has abit of overkill for what the greater majority of us will have. :) (of course its nothing compared to erwins :D)
