View Full Version : vB wiki integration?

I'm looking to see whether it's possible to have a solution with:
1. limited integration between vB and wiki, where vB users can edit a wiki installed in another folder
2. full integration, where a wiki format can be used in vB.
I ran a search, and there's been chatter before:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/search.php?searchid=1257320
but I've seen nothing come of it as yet.
Is anything possibly on its way, or will we have to wait until after vB 3.5 before we see movement in this front?

I am also very interested in this.
Wiki is a cool project... if you trust your members. They become almost all admins. :)

i'd love a mediawiki VB integration whereas you can specify what usergroups can edit and view etc. mediawiki is wicked easy to install but tying tgether the user stuff is outta my league. :(

Agreed. If you run any type of forum that has a large number of posts on how to do *something* then a wiki is the answer.
I can't think of many forums that wouldn't benefit.

I too am considering mediawiki to collaborate content for our site. I would like to manage users/groups access rights. I plan to install asap. I am in an exploritory mode at the moment.
I would appreciate hearing from others pursuing this course.
Thanks! :)

I'm looking to add a wiki to one of my forums at the moment.
I would like to post an article about a topic, then allow the members to edit the article, append the article, etc.
Something where the admin can moderate the wiki and approve/decline the merges.
I, too, would like to hear from others' experiences with a wiki for vbulletin.
off to search here some more and see if I can find any code (;

I have already begun integrating a wiki at wiki.noblood.org (http://wiki.noblood.org). A 'couple' of things to share.
I have decided to limit editors to 'registered' users. This goes again wiki philosophy but we are not 'that' comfortable yet. BUT....
What to do about managing two different user tables, etc. We are going to explore requiring a wiki registered user to be registered at the vb site. We do that now with link to OSCommerce. When they go to OSCommerce, it first tries to log them in from the forum before continuing with Store. Still rough around the edges but it works.
In theory, when a user tries to create an account, it takes them to the forum and then returns them back to wiki. Remember, I just thinking out loud here. That means that they would have a vb user account AND wiki account.
The only other viable option is to have an OPEN wiki and not worry about vb users. But then you lose many of the benefits that make vb such a strong community builder.

I have to admit, I'd really love a solution where only registered vB users can post/edit the wiki - hopefully everyone is aware of the level of abuse that can occur with wikis - I want to kill that abuse simply by only allowing the vB users to post/edit in a site wiki. I know nothing about database editing, though, so I wouldn't even know where to begin to get this resolved.

Well I agree. Therefore, I am hirig a consultant to build this integration. If anyone would like to 'participate' with me in this, PM me.

I have posted the stub of an article that will outline modifications needed to integrate vB users with MediaWiki. Please go to: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/VBulletin/Users_Integration. The reason for posting this information there is because it is more of a MediaWiki hack than vB.
If anyone has or is pursuing this, please share your insights there. Thank you! :)
