archive to use active links

The archive converts links in posts simply to the url address. How do I change it so they are links and not just the url?

I am speaking without knowing what I'm talking about (which has seldom, if ever, stopped me before).

But, I think the reason the links aren't active in the archive is that it's trying to encourage the spider to stay on your site and not wander off.

Yes, but most of the links are pointing to another site of mine, which is exactly why I want them active ;)

Is there anyway to do this?
