This is a real shame, I was wroking on the update for my forums and I'd bookmarked the 4.0.4 release but not DL'd it until I was ready to install.. I go to install and it's gone. :disappointed:

I hope we can work something out, because this is a premium modification to me and I'm sure many many others.

Put a package together and put them up online so everyone can have them. I believe there were bugs nut it's probably stuff we can work out. I'd really appreciate if you could send the files to me as well, I can see what I can do.

Well I'm not talking about magnus's release I'm talking about Noppid's. I mean it was online and available so why can't it be again. Why can't we just throw it up, this is the single modification holding me back from bringing my re-designed/updated local mustang forum live. :disappointed:

I'm keen to have multiple garages for our forum.
Very slow progression with this hack!
Great to see magnus back amoungst us.

All vBGarage Code I have released is available at the computer help forum (http://www.cpurigs.com/forums/). Magnus and Action-N are still credited for their contributions and the fact magnus got this started.

However, this is no longer even close to the code magnus released as 3.11, it has evolved way beyond that. The primary reason I am now managing this code is that during the 3.11 period magnus was not available and the garage was under attack from kiddie scripters. I fixed mine myself. After weeks of seeing the probelm I stepped up and offered my patch at the time. Things went form there.

So the vBGarage code is available for 4.0.4 if requested and 4.1.0 beta is posted.

vGarage is also ported to a vBulletin 3.5 plugin and working well. There are many new additions and enhancements too.

No one was abondoned. Like many other premium coders, we think it's best if we post and manage our code when and where we choose.

Please remember, vBGarage 4.0.x, 4.1.x and 4.3.5 are copyrighted material.

Thanks

Based on that, vBGarage is now a private hack. I don't have time for this. Now the copyright concern is dead.

A Premium hack forum requested and created with me originally as a moderator and the only poster and coder. The community wanted the code and an admin here asked me to bring it back to availability. This sudden questioning of the perrmission has undertones I resent!

I think that's enough permission. But it's of no consequence. I'll have it recoded and rebranded overnight.

Regards.Yes you are 100% right if you say it is between you and Magnus. I am sorry if i gave the impression that i was trying to interphere in that.

I just didn't understand the meaning of your reply and i was hoping that you could word it different so i could understand. You must forgive me, but sometimes it is hard, not being a native English speaker.

On the other hand if you are using our forums to promote private distribution of materials for which the copyright is held by someone else, then it is not only a question between you and Magnus anymore. But this is not up to us to decide (in my opinion this still is up to magnus, personal opinion). But since this forum is already being used to promote your site, it is reasonable i think that i am trying to understand what you are posting here.

I am a license holder and I expect to be able to promote my forums here just as anyone else does. You seem to be saying alot but trying to come off as being concerned. I don't believe it and I resent it.

I thought we were done and beyond the anomosity, apparently not.

I will leave and go away. It's obvious that the employees of Jelsoft have no intention of ever treating me fairly again.

noppid, as far as I am aware, your continuation of the vBgarage project was only allowed to you as long as you kept the code and the hack here for vBulletin.org and no where else.

And it seems like you have broken that agreement.

And it seems like you have broken that agreement.

You have no clue what me and magnus discussed. So therefore, you too need to mind your business.

Thanks

I might add, you are heading into territory where by if Magnus claims copyrigth to vbgarage 3.11 that that would invalidate the code I wrote and everyone, not just me, would have to give up the code. This is of no benefit to the community.

Let me know if we are going to continue a good hack or have a fight about where it lives.

I have the DCMA forms ready to file. This will be done right if that's how you want to do things and it will not benefit the community.

Does your boss want to do that work? Are you speaking for Jelsoft when you question my copyright? Are you an attorney? Are you an attorney for magnus? Do you have a copy of the copyright agreement you say you are aware of and that you cite?

Did magnus file a copyright petition with the proper authorities? I'm certainly not aware of one.

Let's get this de-escalted now, because I'm really fed up.

The bigest reason to drop this is...

Before an infringement suit may be filed in court, registration is necessary for works of U. S. origin.

http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html#cr

There is no enforceable action that can be taken here. I'm certainly not looking for one in any case. If that's where you are going, I think it's just going to cause decent amoung those that will lose out.

Just to make one thing clear, no vB.org staff except for those who are also vB.com staff are Jelsoft employees. :) We are merely volunteers, just like you and other members of vB.org

This is just to clarify that one point for other members who may read this. That's all.

We always encourage hacks to be released on official Jelsoft sites to prevent piracy but obviously every hacker has a right to do what he wishes with his hack. :) We all respect this.

Thanks for the reply. I appeciate the clarification. Rather then deal with ownership, I have coded a totally new photo gallery as a vBulletin 3.5 plugin. It is vBulletin 3.5 code which makes it 100% unique. vBGarage is incomaptable with vBulletin 3.5. There are at least 29 points of difference between this and vBGarage. There will be no copyright issues.

To avoid future concerns over the vBGarage copyright it's probably best if it is left alone. Magnus has the base code in 3.11 to continue the job if he desires. The 4.x.x code is withdrawn to protect his interests.

If he wants to continue, he can contact me for permission to use the 4.x code in the future. That makes the copyright respect go both ways which is only fair if in fact this is stated to have been a partnership and not that I took over.

Regards.

To answer a few questions:

My official development of vBGarage has ceased. All releases containing any portion of my code and/or the name "vBGarage" are protected under GNU licensing and are free to be distributed by whatever means you desire -- regardless of what anyone else may think. I've heard noppid is developing a gallery of his own under a different guise, and for all questions relating to that you will need to speak to him.

If anyone wishes to continue vBGarage development, be my guest. Again, it is GNU licensed for all to enjoy.

The success of vBGarage has gone far beyond what I could have ever dreamed -- a simple search on Google for "vBGarage" will show you what I mean. However, I handed the project off eons ago because I couldn't keep up with it, and that author seems to have gone on to bigger and better things. So, for the time being.. C'est La Vie.

ah hello, well then it should be moved.. back when I got a release of 4.1.0 It had to come from a member here because it wasn't available online.. My main issue is that I'd like support for it. I like what you've done but there is a lot I'd like to change and it's beyond me to do so by myself. Maybe we could talk about some enhancements and you could use them on your newer releases but help me make these features work on 4.1.0 and even release them to the public as well..? They're not BIG changes but mostly things I need to know where to go to change them.

I have a few personal thing's i would like to see added and changed a bit on the 4.1, but i don't seem to get much feedback on the addition's to the program......I am not very good with php file's, so for now i am just using the file that is available to the public.........4.1 really does rock though, some pretty kewl feature's.

as far as the frontend (user stuff) multi car is done, modifications are pretty much done, just have comments, image support (linked and db stored), timeslips, dyno pulls and garage listing to finish, as well as vBify the templates (they're just basic html right now)
the backend (admin stuff) still has to be done, for garage options and modification categories.

but it looks stellar right now :D

I really want to get vBGarage working on my forum again.

It hasn't worked since I upgraded the forum from 3.0.8 to 3.5.2. I tried the 3.5.x upgrade found here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=109924) but when I delete the vbg tables from my database it kill my forum and I have to load a backup.

User CP pages:
my garage (shows your vehicles in the garage)
add vehicle (add a vehicle if so allowed (admin settings allows you to set a limit of vehicles per user))
edit vehicle (edit vehicle)
modifications (shows modifications for the selected vehicle)
add modification (add modification to the selected vehicle)
edit modification (edit modification)

are all now fully phrased (en-US) and templates vBified.
the user cp navigation breadcrumb also is used to the fullest so you know where you are and what vehicle your editting.

starting on timeslips and dyno results now, then the main garage views, vehicle view are next on the list, then implementing images and then finally the admin cp side of things.

and for those that think im just making stuff up, heres some teasers of the user cp portion

the User CP side of things is only for the owner of the garage.

since all other vb options and editable user data is in the User CP so thats where i decided to throw the owner side of things, there still will be a front end for everyone to use to browse the vehicles, pictures, mods, times, and pulls. and adding a link anywhere in the site to go straight to the 'my garage' section is just a simple url (/vbgarage.php?do=mygarage) but its still housed in the User CP. if youve seen the phpbb or invisionboard version of the garage its kinda all in the same area of the site and rather cluttered, having everything for the owner in the User CP keeps things organized and more fluid/intergrated with the rest of the forum. hope that makes sense.. its 1:30am and im tired

i dont like deadlines. lifes a priority, but my site too needs this functionality so im in the same boat with the rest of you :)

its going slowly.. longer hours at work leave me less time, plus finally putting my new motor together so im a bit busy. but im still working on it. infact im finishing up the timeslips userside right now. dont worry im not gonna just drop the project, but give me time, dont worry it will be worth the wait. ill try and pop in atleast once a week and give an update, even if there isnt anything to update on.

also all the source is now on a SVN so code wont be lost if say my laptop decides to take a dump.

search in phrases "car" and replace it with "motorcycle".

Ok, I'll try that. I believe I did, but didn't have any luck. I know it's there. Thanks.

I tried that, and found the following:
<td class="thead" align="center">$vbphrase[vbgarage_car]</td>
changing this reference to motorcycle didn't work.
I know this can be changed, but having a heck of a time finding it. Probably in plain view...

In the AdminCP find languages and then phrases. Then search in the phrases, don't actually search in the templates :p

Sychev_S

Yeah, search in phrases for vbgarage_car, but make sure you check phrase name and variable search option.

Also, if you switch $vbphrase[vbgarage_car] to whatever you want in template that should work too.

Just like that: <td class="thead" align="center">Motorcycle</td>
If it still does not work then you are editing the wrong template. :)

Hi,
Thanks for the responses. I searched phrases and found what I had previously seen:
$vbphrase[vbgarage_car]
I've tried changing car to motorcycle before, and it didn't work, and my searches in templates and phrases pulls up the same result. Thanks.

Ok...
changed align="center">$vbphrase[vbgarage_car]</td> to
<td class="thead" align="center">Motorcycle</td> and that did it. Not being very familiar with the scripting, I thought the $vbphrase was required.
Again, thanks! I learned something.

dawmd

all you did was remove the phrased variable form the template. everyone has told you the proper way to make changes to phrases but editing the template will work, it just prevent anyone using another language to read it in that language, thats the whole point of phrases and languages, to make it easier to translate everything.

maybe they didnt explain it on a level you could understand

goto phrases, and find vbgarage_car

leave the phrase name (vbgarage_car) alone and change the translated text in the bigger text boxes from car to motorcycle. what you probably did the first few times was change the variable name as well as the translated text which the template looks up vbgarage_car not vbgarage_motorcycle

vbgarage_car is the pointer and wherever $vbphrase[vbgarage_car] is it will spit out the content (which is car), so you need to leave the name of the phrase alone and change the content.

default it goes like this
vbgarage_car = car
you want it to be
vbgarage_car = motorcycle

got images working the way i like them to, no fancy ajax tho, but URL linking and upload to database is working wonderfully.

also added some more permissions/checks you can now setup users/usergroups to:
allow/disallow use of the comment system
allow/disallow use of the garage (members cant put their cars in the garage)
allow/disallow use of the garage entirely (if user is disallowed they cant access any garage features, even viewing other garages)
allow/disallow use of images (global disable of images, URL and uploaded)
allow/disallow image upload to database (URL linking is allowed)
allow/disallow use of images on vehicles, modifications, timeslips and dynocharts

thumbnail creation is working for the database stored images, remote linked images are just resized via html (width=100) dont want to put any extra strain on the server by fetching and reprocessing linked image files, should i add another field so you can link to a thumbnail? or just keep it with the HTML resize (this will suck for large remote linked images if user isnt on broadband as the full image gets downloaded even tho it looks small)

R.Solutions

heh ill use the good ole phrase 'it will be done when its done' yeah im working on it when i get a chance, it sucks but when i dont have time i dont have time. but dont worry it will be released, just no set deadline

ok, ive been messing with vB's builtin uploader/image classes and ive got a custom class all setup and working, and currently how this way of doing it, it creates thumbnails based on the attachment thumbnail settings and stores the thumbnail and uploaded image in the database. and for remote linked images, it stores a thumbnail only and the url to the image that way we avoid confusing people with an additional inputbox for a url thumbnail image.

any opinions?

man using vB's uploader/image class took a bit to figure out seeing as its another horribly/un-documented feature, but it works pretty smoothly and has a ton of built in error handling and checks that i dont have to worry about writing myself.

---7/17
revamped the permissions a bit, here are the following per usergroup options:

Can use vBGarage Advanced? (Allows user to have their own garage.)
Can view vBGarage Advanced? (Allows user to view other user garages.)
Can comment on vehicles?
How many vehicles can a user have in their garage? (default is 3)
Can user upload images? (Allows user to upload images, which are stored in the database, otherwise only URL links will be accepted.)
Can attach images to vehicles? (Allows user to attach images to a vehicle.)
How many images can a user have per vehicle? (default is 5)
Can attach images to modifications? (Allows user to attach a image to modifications.)
How many images can a user have per modification? (default is 1)
Can attach a image to timeslips?(Allows user to attach a image of their timeslip a run.)
Can attach a image to dyno run?(Allows user to attach a image of the dynograph to a run.)
