displaying attachments?

I am building a script which pulls posts from X forum and displays them, etc.. That all works fine, but I need to know how to display attachments - specifically, how do decode them or whatever. I know how to check to see if the post has any attachments associated with it, and pull those rows from the attachments table, but the filename / path / hash stuff are encrypted or something. Any help? Thanks!

You could start by installing the [ attachment ] id [ / attachment ] BB code for starters :)
