I have a forum that we primaraly use for technical support and it is private. You must first register, telling us things like when you purchased what you purchased etc.

Right now the whole forum is private so this works well. The Plan is however to have some public folders for people to be registed and post about presale items as well as to create a culture around the company.

Th problem is that I want these "pre-sale " people to be registered but obviously I will not need to moderate there registration requests. So long story short...what would you do here? Two classes of people.... private verses public

Have new registration always end up in the "public" group.

Move them to the privat group after they have proven their purchase to you.

Fill out there info in Profile fields and send you a pm to check?
Create a new forum that can only be seen by "public" members, set it so members can not see posts of others. Let them posts their info there, and if ok, upgrade them and delete the thread.

You can set the permissions for the usergroup at the highes Category they share. Permissions will be inherited below that if you don't override on forum level.

You could even use Public Joinable Groups with a Group Leader assigned to make this work.

Create a Joinable Group for your customers. Public Joinable Groups are normal Usergroups, with the exception that user can join them themself. If you assign a Group Leader all requests to the group must first be aproved by one of the Group Leaders.

Think that is the best solution for you. Make them fill out purchase details when they apply for the group.
