View Full Version : Our own self posting spam bot?

A while ago I requested a hack that would post a quote of the day, or a tip of the day - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=78116
now as I think about it more, it would be great to have this done as our own custom posting spam bot - you could have a list of possible posts in the spambot's database, and each day (or week or whatever time period is specified), it would auto post a random thread to a specified forum.
This would be GREAT for new boards starting up, that don't have a lot of members or posts yet. Spam bot could get out there and keep things active!
For example:
If you had a forum about video games, you could get your spam bot hack set to post in a specified forum each day, with a random post from it's database.
for example, day 1 it could post
"What's your favorite video game?"
day 2 it could post
"What was the first video game you ever played?"
day 3 it could post
"If you were on a desert island with satellite broadband and an alienware laptop with endless batteries, would you want Warcraft or Counter-Strike with you?"
And so on. the possibilities are endless, especially if it could be configured to have:
A spambot for each forum
Settings to indicate how often it should post
a large pool of random questions to pick from, that you input in the admincp. Each forums/spambot would have it's own pool of questions, so they could be topic-specific
This would be a great way for slow forums to get topics and questions auto-generated. This could help them pick up members and keep the existing members active.
It coudl also be used in forums that have self-help or educational programs, to get a 'lesson' auto-posted each day.
Haven't we all said (sigh) "If only spammers could use their brains for good instead of evil?" (lol) well, this would be good!

heh, i was gonna make something like this for myself, where it would actually check the activity on the forum and then when the activity is static it would make a thread, i haven't actually gotten around to making it due to the fact i couldn't work out how to measure activity but it would be a great hack none the less :)

I haven't heard anything yet!! I still think it would be very useful..
That's a great idea! At first I thought, how unnecessary, but then when you showed us what types of posts it would be used for, that really is a good idea.
It would be very useful as well if anyone makes the "vbulletin neighborhoods" hack I suggest, which is also in this forum (as of now it should be two posts down below this one on the thread listings).
If you read through the thread and find out what the suggest hack is all about, you'd see how useful it would be for a spambot for people and their own "houses" and whatnot--the spam bot could be used sort of like a nanny.
Wait, I mean a maid...or manservant, not necessarily a nanny.

That was not my intention, and if you wish to think I'm dishonorable, discourteous, and rude for adding some ideas to a hack and idea that has been posted, so be it. I did not go fetching and pasting a link to subvert people away from this, now did I?...although the idea crossed my mind.
...not to mention, you yourself seem to be advertising your own requests far more than me. I don't appreciate your judgment with your propagandists' signature. Hypocrisy is a defect, not a virtue.

Yes, I figured. I too wouldn't mind someone posting ideas and supporting my ideas if I truly was in favor of them!

Just think how cool this would be, programmers out there:
people with car websites could have collected 'car tips of the day', and each day it would post up a different 'car tip' in the appropriate forum
People with weight loss or speciality diets boards could have a 'recipe of the day' that is autoposted in the appropriate forum
People with TV show forums could have an actor or actress's name or TV show name autoposted up in the appropriate forum, with a thing like "What's your favorite episode of Futurama"? or "What is your favorite Meatwad quote"?
Someone with a php programming forum could have a 'php tip of the day' or 'php script of the day' autoposted randomly in the appropriate forum..

I did this for my RSS news feeds. It can post as any member, but I have it post as me.
Fresh news and fresh topic on topic everyday.
