Doesnt look like you have any scripts installed.

Run gab_install.php again, choose the install path, and then click the Settings link.

That should install your scripts

you are right, in each category are scipts mising...

I hae installed settings again, nothing has changed..

what do you mean by "choose the install path"... i dont see that option...

do this - if you have phpMyAdmin, go into your db's datastore and selete the GAB_settings row. Then try running the installation script (only the settings part).

Ok it works now. I have followed your words...

But now I am not getting ads......here is deug... any suggestions on this?

Ok, I've got it working on a test skin, but I've got a few issues.

1 - Say I go into categories and select "images no tracking" and select the forums I want it to display in and click save, it will say saved. But then if I look, the settings didn't save correctly.

2 - I can't get the images to display on showthread. They work find on index, private, usercp and faq

Plus a quick question, is there a way to make them display on 'forumdisplay' as well?

huh - no one has mentioned anything like that before. Looking at the debug, it looks to be saving the forums. The only suspect thing to me looks like the start and end dates of your banners.

If you look at the listings section of the debug, its looking right (1 entry per script per banner, per forumid, per frequency).

I got showthread working.

The forums thing is strange, it's 2 forums in particular, even if I manually click them, and save it, when I go back and check they are unsaved. Strange.

There are a couple problems based on the debug.

1- You have usergroup 6 (admins) set to disable ads whenever the biography (or similar field) is blank. If admins can turn off ads - make sure there is an explicit value in the box below the profile field that toggels ads off and on

2- The only style with $GAB_ads in them is #2 (which is cool if that is your intention). Anyone using any other style wont see them.

3- It looks like the ad blocks in the Master script have a banner count of nothing. This could be a bug in the debug script - however double check and make sure the value of each ad block is at least 1.

Other than that - most things look pretty cool

Uf, finally I am able to reply (vbulletin.org had a bag in php and reply/quote was not working).

The banner count should be at least 1, more should bring up static ads side by side or together in a rotating script.

i have a couple of questions and problems...

1- I am using RC1 is it the last version?
2- i uploaded 3 ads already, and dont know how can i handle this hack to show those 3 ads in the forumhome, at the same time, no rotation!
borimikan - there is no file called gab_stats.php the file that will house the stats is advertising.php (which is still under development)

RC1.05 is the latest version.
Yes it can handle 50,000 ads on the same page no rotation. post me the results from settings->debug

2. Rotating banner means that it rotate without refresh? Now they rotate only with refresh, but that is working also without rotating option.

I have 3 banners and I want to show B#1 in GAB_ads[1] and to have B#2,3 appear rotating or next to each other in GAB_ads[2]
4. I tried to find how this is working with rotation and side by side, but it doesn't. Even though I set nr.of banners in AdBlocks to 0 there are still two banners I have changing after refreshing....

Just PM me an admin username and password (with a url).

1- If you want block #1 to appear in $GAB_ads[1], then make that the second block.
2- Banner count and defined ad blocks are two different things. The banner count is how many banners it will pull for the block it is in.
3- Rotation works fine - but you wont get two rotating banners side by side without customizing as each ad block has to contain the same type of adverts. For instance, if your bannercount=3 and the type is rotating, then you will get 1 ad block rotating 3 banners. If your bannercount=3 and the type is image/flash, you will get 3 banners side by side in 1 block. If the bannercount is 3 and the type is text, it wont matter as text ads dont use the bannercount.

I have 3 banners and I want to show BANNER#1 in GAB_ads[0] and to have BANNER#2,3 appear rotating or next to each other in GAB_ads[1]

If you want to place banners wherever on the forum, you probably don't want to have every banner wrapped. I would prefer plain banner without wrap.

on eproblem i got.

on our server the safe mode restriction is in action.
so i cannot upload banners from my pc to the server with the module.

isn´t it possible to use html linked banners in the hack ? i think i´m only to stupid to find the solution. :-)

bernd - looks like the file edits were not reverted and your settings were not removed.

Double check your file edits, delete GAB_settings from your datastore table and then run the settings portion of the installer.

Div - I was thinking about this the other day. No, there is not currently a way to enter the url manually however if you have acess to the GAB_ads table via phpMyAdmin or the like... you can always edit the ad and put the url in there.

Have you guys upgraded from beta 2? If so, did you uninstall the previous version first? Clean installs are not really having any problems - dirty upgrades are though.

Hi Cobra, A couple of things:

1- Can you go into phpMyAdmin (or whatever tool you have for DB access) and delete the datastore row where the title is GAB_settings? If you can, then run the installer again - but only run the settings portion of the installer. That would at least reinstall your scripts so you can set up your ad blocks.

After you do that, make sure that all of your categories are active and make sure the categories you use have the applicible scripts ticked.

Give it a go as soon as possible as I head out on holiday in the morining and want to make sure you are sorted.

Fixed for the most part.
Deleted settings in datastore as you suggested.

only issue is stats are not working and advertising.php seems to miss allot of stuff?

The stats viewer isnt already finished. That statement doesnt mean there is an error, it means there is no data to show as no dates had been selected or no data is there to display for the dates you selected.

If you are missing data, make sure that the ads categories are set to tracking and make sure that they are images, flash, or rotating ads (cant track hits on text ads).
Also make sure that your impression throttle isnt set too low - or that your GAB_cron_daily job is set up right as this mack is verrrrrry smart in the fact that if there are more impressions to record than your throttle, it will pack them away until the cron job runs - thus saving you many more queries.

Hope this makes sense.

The database itself has recorded 29 hits and I've setup the banner to be trackable from the admin section. A valid starting and end date has also been set for the banner.

This image shows the advertising.php page. No selections can be made there except for the available banners. Clicking jonsmedia provides the mentioned issue in my previous post.

Where do u have to select the dates in this case? I imagine it's a per month thing or something? It may simply be that's the unfinished part you've spoken of, but I'd like to be sure I haven't screwed up the installation.

Right. Sorted.

Package upgraded to RC1.6

I only made a couple of minor changes to advertising.php and the GUSH_main template and the GUSH_ad_row template.

To upgrade, download latest package... Upload all files to their respective locations overriding any old files in the process... then run the templates portion of the installer. This will update these two templates. You then may need to revert the GUSH_main and GUSH_ad_row templates.

Then you should be able to view the stats (please remember the viewer isnt done yet - think of this as a preview :) )

i currently have my GAB at the end of my navbar template. i would also like to put it at the end of my vBPortal navbar template, but that doesn't seem to be working for me. i can't get the GAB to show up on my vBP pages.. i'm not expecting support on this, but would you have any idea as to how to make that work?

I got a problem that another user had, but never explained his resolution for. I installed this hack, and I have installed many, and for some reason my admin portion shows nothing but a blank page. There are no extra spaces at the end of the files, and I just dont know how to go about fixing it because it gives no error. This is the 2nd hack that hasn't worked for me since I upgraded to VB 3.0.7. PLEASE HELP

i direct linked to the admincp admin file for the system, and it just isnt working. i followed the instructions verbatim, using 3.0.7 but cant get it to work. im gonna give up till the final release is out.

if there is no link in the admincp, then either the autoinstaller couldnt make the change to your admincp-index.php page, or you simply didnt copy it from gish/gab/rc1/admincp

Nothing much can speed things up anymore than they are. IMO, this is totally usable. The couple of things that need tweaking are of minimal consequence. The biggest problem is making it a little more obvious how the system works however once you have it up and running its pretty obvious.

ANyhooo - right now Im on vacation in Spain so there isnt a great deal I can do until I get back. The release of vb3.5 is causing most mackers to spend most of their time rewriting and porting all their stuff over and Im no exception there ;)

Ok, I went to bed last night and woke up this morning determined to get this to work. I created a brand new database and created a fresh new instance of vbulletin 3.07 (just did this for testing purposes before I take it over to the live forum that needs this mod). Did a fresh install of vb and then did a fresh clean install of this GAB modification.

I looked through the install notes...everything was a success. You're right about the phrases not working until you rebuild them, so I did that to correct that problem.

Still no GAB link in the Admin CP Panel, not a problem, I just type in the link to access GAB_admin.php

So I go there to add a new banner. I notice if I choose to upload the banner, I get the following error:

do you have a gab folder in your forum dir? Also, check your settings for a trailing slash for your server path. You will see there in the error message that you have 2 ;)

rgsmdr - sounds to me like an odd URL option in the banner. Its the same basic redirect regardless of the browser you are using. Can you provide a link?

Clicked install. Great hack, and awesome work.

Just two things that I'm having problems with:

1) Created a custom template for an HTML ad I have. This template has been added as a banner in the MASTER Ad Block along with a static banner, but users only see one banner no matter what page the view in their session.

2) When the uploader PUTs a file in the banner directory, it's permissions are set to 600. I have to manually change permissions on each banner. Server config issue on my end?

I've just upgraded to 1.6 from 1.1, and I have something strange on advertising.php - top left hand corner, screen grab attached to show what I mean.

Will advertising.php be where people can sign up for new banners? I always thought it would be this, as a place where they can it all themselves .... or am I wrong?

Jason... Looks like a couple of artifacts trying to get the prototype stats viewer out.

I would update the package but Im on holiday ;)

However, edit advertising.php and search for sheader then change to header. Also in the same file, search for echo("turnd"); and delete it (not the line mind you, just the echo statement)

Eventually, members will be able to purchase their own GABS and GALS... this will be done with an extra snap on called GUSH. Right now though, my focus is to get all open projects closed and then upgraded before moving on with that.

Redspider... Im not sure what you mean. Are you trying to delete the gab templates? Try the uninstall steps of the installer.

yes I trying to delete the gab templates to start all over and I use the installer but dont work the template still there and i cant make this mod work for some reason .

The only thing I noticed at a quick glance is that you only have 1 $GAB_ads in your templates but 2 blocks defined in your Master script which means you need $GAB_ad[1] somewhere to display your other ad block. Stick $GAB_ads[1] somewhere and you will see the second ad block.

Off the top of my head, the banner CHMOD shouldnt be a problem. What happens if you dont chmod it and what are you changing it to?

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. Basically, I want the text ad to rotate in with various image/flash banners -- is this possible?

Also, the CHMOD issue causes the banner to throw an "access restricted at server level/config" error, which results in a broken image when viewing the image inline in the page. When accessing the image/banner directly, you get the "access restricted" error. I am manually changing the permissions on the file to 644.

Ah - currently no. I thought about it bust passed as I didnt think many would really request it but you are now the second person to do so. Ill look at putting that in a future release.

Offhand, it sounds like the chmod problem is possibly a safe mode problem. Ill look at putting in the option to just put in the URL however you will still need to FTP files into place. :(

Hey Geek, sorry. I got tied up with some other issues and didnt have time to resolve my banner issue. From within my adminCP I am able to see my navigation but where presumably the system would be I just get an all white page. Like there is nothing there. If I was to go to the GAB_index.php page, I would just get a complete WHITE screen.

There are only 3 files to edit and I edited them manually several times with the same results. Has there been a better solution to this problem, I would really like to have this on my site. I think you have some cool scripts and this would be my 3rd from you.

Geek: I loved your Article hack (still tweaking it) and I needed an ad management system so I came back to you. Had to manual install again which was no problem, however, I seemed to have followed all your suggestions in the readme and checks in the templates but I can not get an Ad to appear either in Banner edit in AdminCP or on my forums index. $GAB_ads[0] is in the navbar.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

sorted. Im only posting this as an FYI for anyone else having problems:

Please make sure that the path to the gab folder (in your settings) is relative and not absolute.
Please also make sure that the categories the ad is in is set to the correct type (ie flash banners in flash categories, etc...)
These are easy things to mix up and can cause frustration if not done right :)

Should be reading gab/images/0/etc... I think your paths are squwompus.

It will most likely be two to three weeks for gas. I still have a good week to get my advertising system done for my site and then ill spend all my time on GAS. The majority of the hard stuff is done - however its a mamouth mack and that makes it very hard to guage how its going to come along. Regardless... Its one of the key things that will prevent me from upgrading and Im very keen to upgrade asap so rest assured its a very high priority.

Alright, everything shows up, but when I dont set a url for advertising the want to advertise with us still shows up.

when I set cycle rate it still cycles at default setting

when you click on banner it doesn't take you to the url.

and probably a dumb question do I have to make a redirect page or is there one I don't know about?

Other than those this is a great set up for banner rotation.

This is weird. I got it working, sort of.

I put a $GAB_ads[0] in showthread and forumdisply, but it only shows up in the very first forum on our site (forum id=2). It shows in both forumdisplay and showthread as expected. However in all the other forums, nothing.

Ideas? I'm stumped?!?!

vb 3.0.8

Id put $GAB_ads[0] in your header or navbar template... something thats global. Then make sure that all scripts are set to use the master script config.
Then you need to make sure that the banner is set to show in all forums.

Ok, I was with you until that part? There is a setting for that? I must be REALLY tired..... :tired:

Hey I have tried to install this hack like three times already. I know you are aware of an issue where some users are unable to get to anything on the control panel. My site is www.underlabstudios.com . It is an artist community site. In it I have installed an arcade (ibarcade, photopost gallery, vb journal, gblink, vba, and Battle Rap System. ) Is it possible that any of these are conflicting with your hack? I just dont understand why I get this white screen, and I find others have had the problem, but no resoultion has been posted. Can you help me please?

If I understand correctly - you want to provide banners on a maximum impression/clickthru rate (ie. they but 1000 clicks and then it stops showing) - yes.

However this version is not for vb3.5 - the vb3.5 version will not be released on vbulletin.org

Yes, That's correct. I'd like them to be able to use a paid subscriptions like checkout feature and then they get X number of click credits for all their banners.

It looks excellent but I have a question. Would it be possible to force the user to click on the banner? I mean, if he doesnt click at least once a day or everytime he makes a connection, he wouldn?t be able to see the forums or the specified message...

Currently, there is no public display for people to view statistics. This feature will be added in another module in the pipeline.

Luc, you need to add the scriptnames in the scripts section.
ie vbacmps is vba_index (if I remember right)
To get the scriptname, open up the PHP page... its toward the top.

What ver of Vbull is this ment for? I'm over here trying to install it with no luck. Everytime I run the install, I just get a blank screen. The folders have the right permissions, and the files are in the correct areas. Any ideas?

For some reason the clicks are not being tracked.... impressions seems to work fine but on image ads the clicks are not being recorded. Any ideas?

Yes they are in a category with image tracking turned on, the impressions are recorded just fine but the clicks don't track. I went back and made sure both impression tracking and click tracking were turned on, and I also tried setting up a test category with full tracking and the same result, only impressions were tracked for image items. Not sure where to look to see what is causing the problem.

I'm still on VB 3.0.9.....as a few hacks I have installed are not yet available for VB 3.5. Once they become available I will be updating, but for now I'm sticking with the older version.

My gab_stats table crashes about 3 times a week. I am using vb 3.53.

Anyone have any ideas? I would hate to have to pull this product off my site.

It works in 3.5.4. There is a small bug with the synopsis, though. Currently, it is hard-coded to only show the first 250 characters, even though there is an admincp setting to override this.

To fix, open the gars_underscore_class.php file and replace the snip_and_parse function with this version:

You can adjust the hard-coded 240 if you like, though I chose to leave it on my site because I want all synopses to contain the "read more" link.

I have forums(I have 200 forums) check error in categories.
I did checked all forums and just saved.
But some forums checked or some forums not checked.

You will need to edit the gab_cats table (something like that - im working from memory here!) and change the forums or forumid (cant remember which!) from a varchar to a mediumtext. What it happening is you have a lot of forumids and its not able to save all of them as the field is too small. This of course was rectified awhile ago in the pro version.

I am currently Running GAB on my VB site, and it has done everything I have needed it to do until now..
I currently have 4 ads on the top of my page, I want to add 2 more, but they are not showing.

Current code is:


$spacer_open
$GAB_ads[0]$GAB_ads[1]
$GAB_ads[2]$GAB_ads[3]

What I tried doing is this


$spacer_open
$GAB_ads[0]$GAB_ads[1]
$GAB_ads[2]$GAB_ads[3]
$GAB_ads[4]$GAB_ads[5]

But the $GAB_ads[4]$GAB_ads[5] ads are not showing up.

It is staying with 4 ad banners, but rotating btwn the total of 6 different banners.

Can I ad 2 more underneath the current 4? Or is 4 the max?
