Left column underneath the navbar?

Not sure if their is a hack for this?
I have seen a left column hack on this site, but I wanted one a bit different.
I would like to have a left column for ads and such underneath the navbar and not the whole left side of the page.
Is there a way to do this or a hack I have missed?
