View Full Version : vB Texas Hold 'Em

I would LOVE to see this hack!
Here's the idea:
Using the UCash / UShop point system, a Texas Hold 'Em style Poker thread would ROCK!
Maybe have a "Bot" user as the dealer.
Starting a game:
User starts a game with "POKER-GAME" as the beginning of the thread title... they can put anything else after it... like "POKER-GAME: BigDaddy's Table" or something.
Next in the thread, they define the # of players and betting limits, wilds etc...
51002,AS
Next, await joins.
User posts in thread: USERNAME
Once join requests = [players]... the table is closed for new players.
Then the bot kicks in, and deals cards to everyone, and shows the dealer cards.
Betting rounds then go into play:
10 from each user... Bot will tell the user how much is needed to stay in, as well as post the amounts when each user places a bet.
Player with the highest hand wins the pot.
I know the concept needs a little refining, but this is something that I think would take off like a rocket.
Let me know your thoughts or ideas on this. I'd be highly interested in seeing this Mod for vb3 if someone wants to take the time to build it.

Yeah, I thought a Flash one would be cool as well, however, when I thought it over, a "Thread" based version would be easier to integrate & code, as well, it would increase post counts, and promote spectator activity in the thread.
A Flash Hold 'Em would be nice though too.

That would actually rock!
Having it in a thread would be to messy imho. When you play that game there is a lot of keep up with and I don't think a thread is the best place to have it..

I have idea on how to do this, no Flash, Java, just straight HTTP PUSH, using httprequest(); via a Forum PHP script. It would support all the modern browsers. I have the javascript end of it done, something I made for a multi user instant messaging mod! It would use the same rules so converting it to accept the different elements for a card game would be easy. We would need to create the images, (2) per card left/right so we can layer them, then the table template would have to be made to support different player amounts, ie:2 player, 4 player, 6 player type templates, then also another set of the same but just used for people that want to watch the game (no betting controls)!
If someone or a group of people want to develop this, I will help, I won't do it by myself as I don't need this sort of thing, but I can pcture it in my head and it would be a pretty cool time killer, you could even tie into uShop / uCash. It would really be secure to, no way anyone could cheat, because it would be controled on the server via scripts added to vBulletin!

I wouldnt mind contributing some cash to the endevour if it was needed. I'd be interested in a similarly themed blackjack actually.
How would one code a multiplayer anyway? I could think of something for a single player but not multi.

Ok, assuming everyone who voiced an affirmative on chipping in cash for the project can throw in a minimum of $20 - we're up to $120 so far. How much is this going to cost and how are we going to handle the final product? Make it free for all and consider ourselves contributors to society, or can we put a small link (maybe a rotating link at the bottom of the game, during play?) to our sites? (<-I really like that idea :D)
Other questions - how much is everybody planning on contributing?
Who is going to hold the cash? (we need an escrow type thing, I think)
I'll probably come up with more, let's bounce those ideas around for a moment.

Gentlemen, I made a post earlier stating I would like to see contributing members get credit via a rotating link during gameplay. Send me a PM stating the amount you would be willing to donate to the fund and the link you would like to have in the game and I will get the game built. I know I only have a small amount of posts here - if anybody worries about credibility, I can provide plenty. I'm the get-it-done guy, and I've been subscribed to this thread for long enough. Hi
I have a 5 player Java/Flash version coming some time this week. Poker 5/7 card/Black Jack. I'll try to get a demo up maybe tuesday next week, that should give me enough time to get the admin panel finished and also finish the scoring control. You can have multi tables and people can view the games going on, but they can not chat with the player, only players can chat with each other. The Java code will not be open source, but I will give the fla and php scripts to monitor the betting. You can not use this for real gambling, and it only can be used for vB boards because I wrote the session control into the Java Server! I figured that would be the only way that I could control access to it, so I know it is used only on vB forums!

I have yet to recieve one PM with a dollar amount in it. Come on guys, there's enough of us who want this done to make it very reasonable on the individual. How much can it cost? $200? 400? How much is that between 10 people?
It's nothing, I spend more than that drinking on a Tuesday night. Let's go!
No offence wolfyman but you are only 36 posts in, I myself know nothing about you or what you have coded in the past

None taken. I'm not offering to code the thing, I'm offering to organize things. And I'm right there with you on the cash, that puts us up to $40 at least, possibly $80. Personally I don't care who gets it done, I have money to throw in the pot to see it happen though. Anybody else?

Speaking as a coder, I avoid requests with a bunch of people bumping the idea like the plague. Thread bumpers are a royal pain in the patooty to support as users. In general, they are impatient and they don't read.
We coders generally troll this forum looking for ideas when we get bored. We dig deep and look for ANYTHING that looks worthwhile to do. No need to bump. If it's feasible and worth doing, it will get done by somebody who has the time and inclination to do it.

^^^makes perfect sense. Should we ever get around to doing this, I would suggest that we start a thread, pool our ideas into it, and pick what we all want. Then we select one person to act as... what's the word... escrow? Foreman? When he is satisfied, he pays the programmer and the rest of us just deal with it. Everybody wins.

You can post there and see what coders will do it for, and there is not commitment. There's enough interested people here that I'm sure it would remain quite inexpensive.
I'd post it myself, but I'm ne to VB and don't know what it has to offer yet. But if some one want's to type up a description, I'd be happy to post it up on there.
