Hi I am in desperate need for a hack that could do the following:

I have disabled IMG tags in signatures to all users on my VB 3. However I would like to be able to allow a certain 2 usergroups the abilty to be able to use images in thier signatures. The two user groups are:

1. Paying Members - We are turning our site into an offical club and this would be one of the advantages to being a "paid" member.

2. Supporting Traders - We have a number of companies wanting to advertise with us and this is one of the benifits they would like. As the use the forums as well as the members.

I would also like to do this for avaitors?

I used to have a PHPBB board and I got rid of it as the VB board seemed better to use for the transition from site to club. However without this hack its going to make the money side of the club hard to acheive. I have done a search on this subject and it seems a lot of people are in need of it, yet there is not a simple solution.

Any help would be very appriciated :)

"Can Use Signatures" is a usergroup permission, so you can just set those 2 usergroups to allow signatures.

Same goes for avatars.

I think he said [img] code in signatures

Yes i know, but he also said that he don't allow signatures at all for the other usergroups. So if img-tags are allowed or not is not really relevant i think. But maybe i misunderstand the problem.

i'm guessing that he thinks taking away signatures is a bit too much but just disabling the img tag will be much better

Thanks for the replies :)

Sorry I did miss-lead you, yes I have disabled IMG on the whole forum, but they all have text only signatures, but I would like two user groups to be able to use IMG tags in there signature.

Edited first post now to read correctly.

I take it this is no then :( Has anyone got any plans to make such a hack? I am sure that it would be very usefully to a lot of forum owners.

Have you not considered that by simply removing standard features for non-paying users the limited functionality may have a depremental effect on your userbase?
IE: there are thousands of completely free forums...

ACP->vB Settings->User Profile Options->Allow [IMG] Code in Signatures
Set that one to Yes.

Now the scenario with controling the use of signatures with the usergroup permissions should work.

Edit: Oops didn't reread you first post correct.

If you want all user to be able to use signatures, but only a few to use IMG tags, yes then this would require a hack, moving the IMG in signature permission to the usergroup instead of only being global.

We used to have a PHPBB forum which we allowed IMG signatures, when we moved to VB we never activated the IMG in signatures, some people were a little annoyed but at the end of the day I supply a free forum so its on my terms. I like to think that my forum is strong enough for them not to go else where purely because they can not post an IMG in their signature.

At the end of the day the function is there to be used ;) We just want to be able to give members something for thier money when they want to be a full member. The same for the advertising.

Marco - yep thats the problem the function is global but I want it to be per usergroup. I think I have found a way to do it though bu another hack that allows users to upload a signature to the forum, apparently this can be turned on or off per usergroup.

However I would prefer a much simpler hack that would not mean users using our memory.

There's a hack like this here:

If anyone can figure out how to apply this hack to a custum BBcode, please let me know :)
