yes, i agree; financial information is confidential. but what i'm looking to do is explore the business model used to generate profits -- i'm not concerned with the amount being earned, but rather how it is being earned. how exactly is the person using vbulletin as a source of profit? if you're running your vbulletin as a for-profit operation, then you're probably interested in getting all the free and positive publicity you can. hence having me write about it, and link to it, can get you more interest and credibility -- and thus hopefully more clients.

i've seen a number of forums doing this -- some are doing it in really great ways, and i will be writing about them. but i'm looking for more to get a bigger perspective on the issue.

My site made 700 the first week off of sponsors, advertisements, etc. That's good for me considering the circumstances. However, it would be nice to make more when i re-open everything.

I added adsense to one of my sites 2 days ago and so far I've made 75 cents.

That'd be pretty much all I've made.

I can't believe he actually sent me a pm wanting to interview me because of my sites success... lol

$6,000 in one night?? I would not be sitting here right now struggling to make minor addons and improvements...lol

Might site pays for itself and for now I consider that a success..

$6000 a night is about 20,000 people online at a time. im pretty sure you would be updating your site more often then expected to keep the money coming in ;)

My community will be launched as a for-profit including some fairly non-traditional promoting methods. I?m not quite yet willing to give a public link to the intro describing the business model in details, but if you want I can send you a pre-launch invitation so you can visit the non-public stuff once3 properly set up. That should happen in a couple of weeks from now.

The way google works is by scanning what your site is about and then they put advertisements for sites that deal with the same thing as yours. That's why since i have a rap site, i don't make a lot off of google because rap sites don't pay much for advertisements. However, i know someone that owns a web designing site and he makes about $2.15 per click.

I make money on my site http://www.everything2stroke.com I just started a membership program and have had about 10 people sign up. I have 1600+ members in 1 years time (not sure if thats good for the first years stats). However I do make stickers and T-shirts that are related to my site and sell them on ebay which become a great way to attract attention to the site. I don't actually profit because buying new products site Maintenance and hosting fees(which I own the hosting company and pay myself) add up and leaves my site with 0. Which sucks but I never figured I would make money from the site. I however use my site to create business for my Webhosting company. So I guess in the long run my pocket gets fatter.

My site has been online since the year 2000 and is a GM diesel truck owners forum.

We make about $1200 a month in standard run of the mill banner ads and Google actually contacted us to do AdSense a couple of weeks ago. We are getting that working now actually (which is why I happen to be here at these forums researching other users' experiences).

I just graduated from college a few months ago (started in 2000) and haven't had much time to take care of this forum of mine. I am not really proud of it, except that it has a 6400 members and generates $1200/mo.

My forum is adult entertainment and it's been up for about 2 weeks...I've already made enough to pay the dedicated server cost for this month.

I'm loosing $200 a year atleast on my tiny little site. Seems pretty difficult to be profitable at all :(

I run my board for fun, so I make no money off of it. It's a hobby, though, so I could care less if it profits or not.

I've just added some ads onto my site. At one point I had adsense on it but they banned me. I was having problems at the time with a few people spamming abuse on one of my sites and hammering my adsense with repeated clicks so it wasn't good.

If I make $40.00 per year then I'll be happy as that will cover my hosting.
$70.00 covers my hosting and members area.
$100.00 covers my domain name too.

So I'm not worried about being a big earner. A few bucks helps but so far I've not had a cent in payments coz I didn't get anything from adsense when I was with them. I reckon I've spent about $500 on two vB's over the last 2 and a bit years. One's up for renewal soon as it's a leased licence but I'm undecided as to what to do with that.

Adsense (avg. is about 400 $/month) helps to cover our hosting costs, but it still takes more money than it generates.

Wait, these things are supposed to make money? Damn, I am doing this all wrong.
My site costs me about $200 a year with hosting, licensing, and addons.
Here I've been doing it for the entertainment and gratitude of my members and I could be getting paid? What'll they think up next?

I don't particularly like it when people have forums solely for making money but it's fine since it's not free to host the forum, buy the software and so forth.

Really, if you're not made of money, you've gotta get some money back from it somehow.

My site (http://ut2007world.com) is my own hobby. I pay .... a lot each month since all server are root. But I always say : Some people smoke and driving boosted cars, and I have my website :D

I have a google search bar, yes (in forum in search and mainsite as modul) but even though it is used, it did not produce any cent so far .. but I don't really care. The reason I signed up for google adsense was not for making money, but for getting the code :)
