im learning php5, is this going to throw me off or something because i want to make custom modifications, or is vb 4 going to use php5? and anyways is there anything i should know about vbulletin before i start coding?
just code with php 4
as for now im not sure php5 will work with vbulletin
but im not sure

you should then start with php5
a plain vb runs very well on php5, and if you plan to write your hacks yourself, php5 is better, as i forces better coding ;)
vb4 is still far away, but it will surely need php5 by that time

ok thank you, but what if my site is sortof heavely modded, and my host has php 4 something installed. will everything still work out?

depends on how much of php5's features you really use ;)
the main aspect of php5 is OOP, which wouldn't be used often in normal mods, the other thing is forcing better coding style (by not doing autocasts all the time) which doesn'T hurt when running on php4 ;)
