This modification is no longer available or supported.

A simple little mod - this displays the number of new posts since your last visit & the number of new reputation comments since you last checked your usercp - both are displayed in the welcome panel. See the screenshot.

I thought you were gonna hire him LOLI'm not for hire, I gave that up 20+ years ago :) I have a very nice IT job thanks.

vB modding is just a pastime for me - and I only do what I need to do for the site I help look after. :)

If the reputation system is off, I assume it will show only the new posts part. Which is what I want.

Which is what I want.Actually no, it would still display the "no new comments" section if a member had reputation display enabled in their profile. There wasn't really much logic to checking for such an occurance - since if you don't have reputation turned on at all then you don't need to install half of the hack.

Okay, can you show me which parts to leave out to just to the new posts half?

Just for you, see attached. :)

I placed it under the last visit line, thought it would look better.

I'm getting just an empty spot where I suppose the statement should be.

Welcome, Dennis.

Ideas? Not without seeing your global.php and navbar templates - one or the other is incorrect.

Figured it out. Damned vBa. Shows everywhere but the vBa home page.

Now to figure out why it's not picking up.

Suggestions?

Thanks for the edits.

Thanks for the edits.Sorry, I know nothing about vBa - but I would guess you need to declare $pcount as global somewhere in it.

Okay, for all those out there who haven't done the search yet, to add a global variable to vBa CMPS:

AdminCP -> vBa CMPS -> Default Settings -> Main Options -> Portal Output Global Variables

Add the variable without the leading $ to that box.

Thanks Paul.

I seem to have a bug. The "New Posts" count keeps going up and up, and as users read threads/posts, it never goes down.

Suggestions?

I seem to have a bug. The "New Posts" count keeps going up and up, and as users read threads/posts, it never goes down.

Suggestions? It is not an indicator of posts read. It is the number of new posts since their "last visited" date. It won't change unless this changes (i.e. they log out, mark all forums read, or timeout).

This is great, I only use the new reputation and it really is a good feature, on one site I noticed that when new reputation is received, as well as the new reputation received in the welcome box there is a green square as well, is this possible with your hack?

Mark.B

Yes.

so, are you going to tell us how?

Mark.B

Yes, as long as you're actually running 3.0.X.

I am running 3.6.4, will it work with this?

New Reputation comments & Posts since last visit.
Version: 1.20, by Paul M (Administrator)
vB Version: 3.0.17

I would respectfully suggest learning how vb.org works before attempting to install, let alone alter, modifications from here. Otherwise you could easily mess up your site, potentially beyond repair.

With respect,

either you are going to share the information or you are not going to, which is it?

Is there anything like this available for 3.6.5 and above?

Paul M

This was ported to 3.5 and 3.6.

Aha, I found it! Thanks for the fine work Paul. In my short time in the vbulletin community you are becoming something of a hero to me!
