How operates the vB statistics 3.0.0?

The vB statistics 3.0.0 consist of two essential parts.

One part is to log each visitor, serarchengines and keywords, browserlanguages, browser plugins, referer ect.
The other part show Information of the existing vB database

How extensive is the vB statistics 3.0.0?

add 46 new templates
add 15 new database tables
over 1300 database inserts
400 new phrases
23 new PHP and one js file (7 PHP files only need for the installation)
over 400 various images.

Templates/Phrases installed during install/upgrade;
100% Valid XHTML 1.0 Templates

The installation.
The installation continues maximum 30 sec and is fully automatically.
No existing vBulletin database fields or tabels are changed
Everything is complete over the admin CP adjustable.

leonsio (http://www.vbhacks-germany.com/forum/member.php?u=82) was so nice and has adapted this vbstatistic version to the 3.5 vbVersion
Download the file and replace all the files from the statistic3.5.zip with the old statistic files.
Important:
Only use the new files if you plan to update your old vB 3.0 Version to 3.5 Version now.
Dont forget to make a DB backup.
No other changes are needed.

Is possible show the Statistics of the last x days in a popup window.
You can set X in the admincp.
Page views for each days are not supported.

But i will write an update.file and more of this Infos would be display on new sides.

Querys for the logging part.

Max. 6 Querys for the first log. (3 normal and 3 shoutdown querys)
After that, 3 Querys. (1 normal and 2 shoutdown) for each side refresh.

But i would anyway, since it's logging more things now etc.

It is not my officiele database name, dutchracingleague_nl_-_drl is de name and de - put down itself with produce. Everything what I fill in complies with dutchracingleague_nl_-_

ADDED: One thing, when I saved my settings for the Domain name, it reloaded and showed me that the last two letters of my address were cut off:

Is that going to affect the program, or is that just a character display limit?

Hi PCFreak and thanks for this hack. *Installed* and works perfectly first time.
I agree with KirbyDE about suggesting some more stats to be able to produce information similar to Webtrends. Please note that potential advertisers want to know monthly stats. And as far as I'm concerned the most important use of these stats is to persuade advertisers to sign up.
Please have a think about these:

Average visitor session length (time between first and last activity in a session) (ignoring spiders?)
Number of visitors who visited once in the time period (ignoring spiders?)
Number of visitors who visited more than once in the time period (ignoring spiders?)
Number of page views for home page (ignoring spiders?)
List of most browsed forums % and numbers (clicks on categories) (ignoring spiders?).
Display average number of users registering per day in the time period. This thread shows what I mean though I expect you would get the data in a different way:

Also I would suggest being able to exclude certain user groups from the list of new users. I.e. I don't count those in the coppa, awaiting activation and banned user groups as new users since they can't actually participate in the forums.

One thing though. My forum's site domain is forum.m1911.org. In www.m1911.org there is another site, mine too of course, but I would like to exclude only the forum.m1911.org hits from the stats, not the ones from www.m1911.org.

When I try to enter the site's domain name in the options, it doesn't accept it, probably because you are trying to avoid people entering www.xxxxxx.com or whatever. However, if I can't do it, the stats I get would not be correct. Is there a way around it?

There is a character display limit of 25 spells.

You can change this manuelly
Run this query
ALTER TABLE `statistic_setting` CHANGE `setting_for` `setting_for` VARCHAR( 40 ) NOT NULL
40 is the new character display limit.

Or use the string "the13thforum.com", that will works, too.

Or antother way. Look in the installation_english.txt and read this part

A couple of small issue, it does not identify the number of users with an avatar. It shows 0.

Also, in the Search engines window, when I put the mouse cursor over the sign that shows that the search string was shortened, it does not show the whole string, it shows "shorten Search string".

Finally, in the Browser Plugins and Monitor Resolution page, the only thing that contains some information, is the line which shows Users who block Javascript on their system. All others are zeros. Same thing with my systems information. Not all installed components are identified. I do not particularly care about this, I know what I have, I just let you know, in case you are not aware of it.

One question also: If I set the show statistics page option to 1 (admins and mods) , does that includes super moderators as well?

Re. alt text, that's what I mean, I hover my cursor about that image and expected to see the whole string. Instead, I see "shorten Search string" in the small yellow alt text window.

Cancel all my other problems, they are all solved, I had missed one file when I uploaded to the live server. My only issue is still the avatars count, which denies to move from zero.

OK, I figured that out, you are counting only users who have a custom avatar. Not the ones which are using one of the site's provided ones. I modified your code as below.

Edit file /statistic/sides/forum.php and find:

Well, the issue of the blank line on the top of the site, is partially solved, with the instructions you gave us. In my site, it was replaced with a thinner line, in the color of the background, but it is still there. If you can visit the site (forum.m1911.org) using IE you will see that above the two pictures on the top left and right, there is a blue line. That shouldn't be there, the pictures should touch the top edge of the browser's window.

This looks particularly ugly in my site, and I would appreciate if you could eliminate it. Personally I do not care much, as this does not happen with Firefox browser I am using, but the majority of the visitors are using IE and it will break up the forum's image for them.

OK, I've find the problem with the icon in the search engines search strings. In the file statistic/sides/searchengines.php, you have this code:


$et = "<img src='statistic/images/misc/noaktiv.gif' alt='$vbphrase[vbstatistic_searchstring_alt]' width='20' height='20' />"


This should be changed as shown below:


$et = "<img src='statistic/images/misc/noaktiv.gif' alt='$keyword_alt' width='20' height='20' />";


With this change, when the cursor hovers over the https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2005/01/1.gif sign, you get the full search string.

I got it... it's based on the registration date of the first user id in the database (normally user #1) but I did an import from phpBB2 so admin is user 2. In /statistic/side/forum.php find AROUND LINE 48;

Change "WHERE userid = 1" to to match the first user id # actually listed in your database.

I think you must wait a few days until you get the first visit of googlebot. Visits of Googlebot are not as much as visits from yahoo slurp.

vBadvanced is a really very good modification. But it is change so much the orginal vBulletin file structur.
At the moment i have no solution for this portal problem.

That's the problem. I have statistic_java_counter.php in /public_html/forums but when the script runs, I get the error message for the other path. :ermm:
You can either use the full path to the file ie:

include("/home/youraccount/public_html/forums/statistic_counter.php");

or...

} .. if you want to stop the including when people are viewing your adv_index page.

Ah. Right, sorry. Just stick the full path to statistic_java.js in the template. Then, you will need to edit the .js file, on line 113, enter your full forum path.

It looks as if it's not your fault, I am looking at it now, and it shouldn't have any relation to the statistics. Just one question, if you do not mind. Can you please tell me, how can I check in a template (header), what browser the user is using? I think I have to come up with different header versions for IE and the rest.

I have now 3 time again installed this hack, but I get no statistics at some fields.
I would not know how that comes, I have really done everything such as am described, but nothing helps. I had in the beginning already a wrong message from my database.

But that I had solved by taking away FROM $dbname from de forum.php (thnx to Ian Emu-UK)

But they arent correct. I entered on my site using via links, lynx & konkueror couple times; using 4 diferent hosts; 9 diferent system accounts (on this hosts) and 6 vB accounts.
Should be at least 15 apears for each browser (pic1&2) and 3 time more linux.

I've noticed that statistics sometimes count browser after doing couple "system check" refresh.

Aditionally when in my network (one shared public adres) 3 or more persons browse forum, "system check" tab shows total nonsens. (pic3)
Im wondering which data are really read and put to database...

U can test it and see result immediately because i set cron job to one minute...

And last thing.

Perhaps, there is nothing to delete.
Limit 0 or Limit 1000.
A division by 0 is an error.

If I may offer a suggestion for future releases, one thing I believe every admin would love to see, is statistics about the URL used to leave from the site. For example, if someone has some advertising banners, the statistics on which banner the members clicked to leave from the forum, would be very welcome. Sort of ... invert-referrer.

If that could be added, it would make a lovely hack even better.

I have not found a browserstamp (agent) to detect this browsers.
Lynx will detect with the agent "lynx" (you linx agent must use an other agent) and the browser "link" was unknown for me.
Never heard something about this browser. Sorry...

I think it is possibel write a better query for this problem. (But you can correct this in the admincp for first)

(I m not sure. Perhaps the problem separates of alone. There are few scheduled tasks inside vbulletin. I do not know exactly. But it could be that one of this task delete the duplicate links daily or weekly :ermm: )

I have a small problem with the statistics.
While you do show me how many bots entered (and what precentage they take out of my visitors) The rest of the statsistics do not take that into account.
This means that when i get 514 visitors today its actually more like 350 (damn slurp) or when i check in Referrers the precentage that come directly/through an external Referrer calculate the bots within which is not something i would want.
Any way to bypass thats ?

am i the only one that gets harassed by slurp ?

You haven't done the remove of the logging in your template phpinclude_start as it is described in the readme and also in the uninstalling file !!!
But you should login in admincp to get ride of this code in your phpinclude_start template also afterwards.
If this did't work you have to go with phpmyadmin to your database directly and edit the template there.

I am not the coder of this hack, but try the following changes.

in file statistic_searchengines.php
find:
$keywords_known = $DB_site->query("
SELECT counter
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "statistic_searchengine_keywords

");
Replace by:
$keywords_known = $DB_site->query("
SELECT counter
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "statistic_searchengine_keywords
WHERE keywords = '" . addslashes($keyword_found) . "'
");

This will be a solution to this one query. I noticed there are more places where this could happen, so just keep adding the 'addslashes()' as you go.

The Phrase 'vbstatistic_admin_cp_set' is not a global phrase. This phrase is a CP Stop Message (phrasetypeid = 9000).

I think, there are not really many bugs.
Of course, there are some problems. But most of them are individually (for example: problems to deinstall the old statistic version, links Browser is not detected ;), misunderstandings, and few problems with querys particularly with keywords.)
For the most users, the statistic works perfekt.

At this point I'm pretty busy with a few things and want to make sure the 'posts since last visit' function is working correctly without this 'hack'. This weekend I'll take a look at everything and see if I did something wrong in editing the files. Actually, version 2 was OK for me. There are some things in it I did like better as to presentation. And, as I said earlier, including bots / spiders in stats like visitors on the main page dilute the information. Bots and spiders come and go while my main interest is in the people who visit.

Most of this isn't an isssue for me over all - I saw this as something for forum users more than anything else - I have a log analysis program I use on the site as a whole which segrates things like bot / spiders vs. 'people' - And most everything else I need.

I like the idea. I think it's a very nice 'hack'. And I'm not disappointed. A lot of time and hard work went into it. But for me, it'll be something I have to look more closely at - And to do that I have to find some time.

Note that I'm not a programmer so I'm not really very good at debugging. As the old saying goes, I know enough to be dangerous.

This could be an other Problem (Performance Hit Since PHP 4.3.10 / 5.0.3)
Many people have noticed that vBulletin (any a lot of other PHP applications) suddenly started to run significantly slowed than normal after installing PHP 4.3.10 or 5.0.3 in order to patch the security flaw in previous versions of PHP.

This cause of this slow-down has been identified as a problem with the unserialize() function in PHP. For more details, see bugs.php.net. (http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=31332)

I cant confirm this.
I have make tests on my forum, but this funktion works well for me.
User without the permission to see a hidden forum cant see a hidden thread.

Perhaps, it could be you have not set the userpermission correctly or you have build new usergroups which have this permissions.
My tip. Check the userpermissions of your forum. I think, there is set something wrong.

This fixed the problem.

Could you please explain to me what's the meaning of the last two lines shown below:

Thread replies: Ø 5.65 times <<<<<<<<

It's taken from the right column of the first page which appears when you run the statistics.

I assume the second is averate replies per thread, but I am not sure and I do not understand the first one.

Here is a quick & dirty way to integrate the stats page in to your ACP:

In your admincp/index.php file find
//##### Statistic 3 by PcFreak START #####
$printhr = true;
add below:
construct_nav_option('STATISTICS', '../statistic.php?', '<br />');
nothing too fancy, but it works. You can obviously put it wherever you want in your statistics ACP menu, and you can call it whatever you want. Again- I realize this isn't groundbreaking, but I thought one or two newbies like myself might find it useful.

I have further cleaned up the English translation, especially in the AdminCP, to make things a bit more understandable now that I understand what it all does. :)

To "upgrade", just backup your database/download your current language file, unzip the .xml in this zip and go to your AdminCP - Languages and Phrases - Download / Upload Languages and browse to it and upload it into your existing English language.

To see the 'new translation' in action: http://forums.nzboards.com/statistic.php (I have edited the STATISTIC template slightly to change the names of the 'Type' column on the right..if anyone wants the changes, I will post them here)

If you don't like it, just upload the language .xml you backed up prior. :)

It's taken from the right column of the first page which appears when you run the statistics.

I assume the second is averate replies per thread, but I am not sure and I do not understand the first one.

Try looking at the STATISTIC template...it's all phrased, so you could go about it thusly:

Find in Phrases - *the phrase you are wanting to change*
Make note of its name
Search in template STATISTIC for that phrase.
Change it to a hardcoded entry...like 'My new title for this stat' :)

Of course, why you would want to do that rather than just importing the latest English translation .xml ... I wouldn't know.

This looks like a great hack! But just one question, how much does it affect server load?
Are all the queries run when someone requests the statistics, or are they updated at a predetermined time and a cache is used?
Sorry for the newbie question, but I have a 20,000+ members, and over 500,000 posts, it kills me to think what this could do to the server if a bunch of ppl request the stats page around the same time :ermm:

The serverload is very low.

Querys for the logging part.

Max. 6 Querys for the first log. (3 normal and 3 shoutdown querys)
After that, 3 Querys. (1 normal and 2 shoutdown) for each side refresh.

Show one side of the statistic it the same like show the index.php or a other part of the forum. (need between 8 and 12 querys)

Sorry guys, but we found a "bug" in the vB Stats.

We recieved complaints that people couldn't see who was browsing a thread. All they saw was themselves, but not the other people who were in the thread. The "Who's online" page showed that serveral more people were browsing the thread, but they didn't show in the thread itself.

Our programmer has spent two evenings troubleshooting this problem and we found the cause.
It's the image that is generated by the statistic_java.js and that is in the header of every page. This image executes a script to see what browser, os, resolution etc he is using. The problem is this:

1. The user is opening the page and is put in the session table of the vB database.
2. The image is being execute, the vB Stats are updated, but the user is removed from the session table because at this time he is not viewing a forumpage but a generic page caused by the execution of the javascript.

Result: the sessions table is not up to date and the user is not being shown browsing the thread.

A possible sollution for this problem is not to touch the session in the statistic_java_counter.php. You can probably make sure of that by not using global.php, but only mysql includes and config includes.

We solved our problem by removing the java image from our header, but the result is that some statistics are not being updated. We hope you can find a better solution by making some changes to the program.

For example, i've made a phrase "vbstatistic_admin_only" and translated it to Dutch :)

Perhaps, it could be you have not set the userpermission correctly for the usergroup 9.
My tip: Check the userpermissions of your forum. I think, there is set something wrong.

I checked the code, and can't find anything wrong with it. The common thing I noticed in all the errors I received, is the \ at the end of the search words. Any idea on how to stop these error messages?

I get the same errors, but i think the reason is the \ in the query. As you can see when people search on google, their \ is above the enter button. When referrring to your site, the procedure to store the referrer goes wrong because of the \. Maybe a suggestion to strip \ from beeing inserted?

Yes, I think you are right. I'll try to come up with some sort of patch, to strip that last \ from the string.

Since the backslash character is not used in normal word typing, and since I didn't want to spend too much time coming up with an elaborate solution, here is a simple patch.

Open your statistic_searchengines.php file and find:


$keywords_known = $DB_site->query("
SELECT counter
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "statistic_searchengine_keywords
WHERE keywords = '$keyword_found'
");


Right above that, add:


$keyword_found=str_replace("\","",$keyword_found);


That would strip any \ character from the query string.
