Remove Images in Quotes

I've searched and searched, but all of the existing code for this either doesn't work or is for vB2.x. What I want is a modification which will change all images in quoted text into hyperlinks directed toward the image location. I would certainly appreciate it if someone could help out here - it's a major annoyance on my forum for me and all of my visitors.

Maybe I misunderstand what you are asking for, but can't you turn off [img] display in using the AdminCP in the Forum Manager?

Enable/Disable Features:
Allow [IMG] Code Yes No --> set to NO

UPDATE: OK - Now I understand what you mean by quoted text. You want image display ordinarily, but not within a quote.

That's exactly right - in a way, I want that option in the Admin CP to work only for text inside QUOTE tags.

I have to agree with you. Some of our posts get really "bulky" due to endless quotes and nested quotes including images. Clearly a waste of bandwidth. This feature should actually be a standard option in the ACP.
