View Full Version : 3.05 update disaster

I carefully updated all of my 3.03 files, using zizasoft compare program, directly on my server, and for some reason, I've lost the forum index page. I can surf around inside the admin CP area, but, when going to the main index page, I get a blank white page.
I did not do a fresh install of the upgrade, because I have about twenty hacks on the board, all of which were co existing nicely before the upgrade. I have no doubt that this is something simple. I updated the forum by copying the entire forum directory on the server, updated all of those files to the new version (with the hacks within), and once updated, renamed the updated version to the old version on the server, and ran the upgrade.php file. This way, the I retained a back up of the original. (Which functions, without some hacks functioning...)
I can cruise through the entire forum, but cannot get the main forum index page to visualize. It has to be something really stupid. Can anyone tell me what files control the main forum index page??? I've looked around, but I can't seem to find an error. Yet...
Thanks

Have you tried Rebuilding Styles in your Admin CP?
Update Counters - at the bottom.

Wow. Fast response. Thanks for reminding me of that. I forgot to do that.
The error, of course, was in index.php; the error was an errant } . One that didn't belong there.
One damn little thing to bring it all down. It just goes to show, LOL
Thanks for your assistance, as usual, nice to know that you are all so helpful.

AAARGH. One little thing... No doubt my immense skill to screw things up has struck again.
In my ADMIN CP, User Groups / User Group Manager, the "General Permissions" lines got lost. Again, this is probably an errant comma or bracket, which I am known to place from time to time. Does anyone know what file I need to play with to find this? I've "rebuilt styles", to no avail.
Thanks!

Did you even run the upgrade script?

Yes. It ran fine, first to 3.04, then to 3.05. Nary a problem. Did all the board edits with comparison software, line by line. (Now that took time, LOL)
Board is working fine otherwise. Just missing that stuff in the ADMIN CP / User Groups / User Group Manager sub menu. Bizarre, really bizarre.

OK, I figured it out. It's the Webpage and Guestbook Hack, which doesn't seem to want to work on 3.05. The phrases for the hack are not found for some reason.
Sorry to be a nuisance.

richThe phrases were probably lost if the installers set their languageid to -1 instead of 0.
Don't get me started with the issue, I've spent about 7 hours sorting out my phrases with the 3.0.5 upgrade. It's been a true headache this one..

Can you just re input the phrases for the various hacks? I've kind of tried that, with no success. I only seemed to have lost the phrases for the Webpage hack, for some reason.

Is it just the missing phrases that's causing you problems with the mod after the upgrade?

I've found that with a few hacks, Webpage/guestbook, Member Albums, etc, that I had to do some mysql queries to install some of the phrases again, and, had to do some file edits (because I didn't recognize the hacks when I was upgrading).
Seem to have just about all of it working now. I think... LOL. Damn, this stuff takes time.
