With vBPortal v3 Gold being out for a while now, what are your opinions of it versus vBAdvanced?

A big feature of vBPortal is there is no need to modify any of the vB code itself, which will make upgrades easier. However, how many new "blocks" are available for it? How easy is it to write new blocks? Management seems a bit confusing.

I haven't decided which way to go, and I haven't installed vBAdvanced yet. I have no problem modifying code, but I'd rather not without hearing opinions versus the new vBPortal release first.

Thanks in advance for everyone's assistance.

VBAdvanced seems to run smoother for me but if your lazy pick VBPortal. VBAdvanced also seems to have better add-ons.

Care to point out those many bugs? I know I've not come across any that spring to mind never mind many!

I appreciate the info.

I wouldn't say I was lazy. Just hoping to keep the forum code separate from the "add-on" code, to allow for easier vB upgrades as required.

Yeah quite a list but most look like they have been fixed and in general they are mostly minor. Still I never ran across any that prevented my site working or caused a problem. I guess the next version out will sort those bugs.

Most of those if not all have been fixed. I am running vbadvanced CMPS and have yet to have a single issue. The problems I have had were my fault and the help was instantanious.

Is vPortal flawless? How is their service? I ran an older version of vportal before I upgrade my vb to 3.0.0 and I must tell you getting support was like pulling teeth.

Most of the bugs there are minor and/or will only noticed under certain conditions. Plus the fix for each has been posted as well.

Vbadvanced only needed 1 or 2 file edits from what I remember,... thats not difficult.

vB Portal to my knowledge is inefficent, it uses like 15-20 queries(thats when i ran it on vB 2) and the code was very sloppy and hard to read.

Please remember, vbPortal 2 was and is and old portal, vbPortal 3 for vBulletin 3 was a total rewrite of the code and works totally different. You need to try if before commenting as the two versions are polls apart.

Also vbPortal 3 requires "no" file changes to the vbulletin files and the install runs smoothly in the same fashion as vB.

Also ;) think it's safe to say I've not came across "any" script yet that does not have bugs etc, so maybe going down that topic could be endless

Yeah I know most of them have had fixes posted for them, I just think it'd be better to update the actuall install file rather than people having to hunt down those fixes and apply them themselves... Kinda like why leave something that has somethings wrong with it and have people hunt down those fixes rather than just update the installation to have those fixes already applied.
