There are some great querystring options for search.php?do=process, as documented here (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107955&highlight=sort+search+results+forums). You can specify sort criteria and many more options. Unfortunately, these options are not available with getnew or getdaily.
This would be a great little MOD, allowing greater control over how the search results are displayed for these two actions.
