Yep, but the thing is, everything seems to be working fine, however, no music is coming up on the jukebox page. And its not playing @ all.

Ok have you created your music folder and made sure the options reflect the folders name ... i tried to upload a song and got an error.

I fixed the navigation so the phrases show (just edit one of the phrases and save without changing any of the text :))

Also have you uploaded the v2.1 php files?

Okay, now here is where we hit a brick wall because of my ignorance!

I installed Jukebox and noticed that I was getting the restriction error. Because my board is not yet ready for prime time, I had never tried to upload an avatar either. I tried to do so and discovered I received the restriction error there as well.

So, I inquired at vB.com and was told I needed to set Safe Mode in vB and set the path to my "tmp" directory as stated above.

When I did so, I found I could upload avatars, but still not a file via the Jukebox.

So, originally, when I discovered the restriction in Jukebox I was not running in Safe Mode ... and now that I am, I still receive the error. If there is something that you would like for me to ammend now in order to check my installation, you will have to tell me "Hey, do this..." with instructions on precisely how to do it ...

Obviously, I only "know enough to be dangerous". :ermm:

To comfirm: ... your whole instilation is working except you cant upload songs from the user end.

Talking out loud:... Why does it restrict browser uploading in the user end but not in the admincp?

Yes. My install works fine if I do manual entries. Only the user upload results in the restriction error.

I double-checked my user permissions and they are set to allow uploads.

On a whim of desperation, I even tried entering the name of my avatar upload folder "customavatars" but still got the restriction error.

I dunno, Trafix. I thank you for your support. I'd hate to uninstall because it's a great hack, but I'm stumped!

Created new folder. Chmod'ed to 777. Changed folder name in JB admin.

the only change is some coding in the vb_jukebox.php file. only about 6 lines that stop the media player opening as a tall narrow strip :)

i have suggestion for your hack
i look for visual/audio station to my site which like this idea:
upload all media to specific folder
then make live show by your site ,just people go to jukeshow.php then this script will begin with the media but it is be timed by your server
in admen panel , admin put times to begis the show and make the file play file number 1 and then file number 2 and then file number 3 so on
after it finish it will repeat or just stop

it is like tv or radio staion on the net by your site and it be good to make it daily or weekly or monthly changed

i hope this idea be done

Trafix, this was the response from my most excellent hosting company (alphaomegahosting.com):
I am going to add /var/tmp to your open_basedir directive to see if that takes care of the problem, though I'm still perplexed and wondering "why?" just like you are. Again, I don't understand what's broken. Like you posted at the forum, you can upload avatars, which the developer said used the same engine (or something like that... it's been a while since I read it) and even he seems to be confused about what is going on here.

Anyway, lets see what happens with this addition.
That fixed it!!! No more restriction errors. :)

Nothing is playing, I have chmodded and added the audio files correctly, they are also linked correctly through the vb jukebox admin..

The songs did play fine until I tried to update to the newest version.. can you explain how to uninstall completely, so I can do a fresh reinstall? maybe that will help my problem. I don't know.. i'm also experiencing "-" negative plays...

Any help would be greatly appreciated as your hack is a very valuable asset to my forum considering we are MUSIC related.. the first release worked fine and I'm figuring I messed something up trying to update to the current version..

ok .... i tried to play the songs direct from your media folder and i had to download the entire song before it would play. i think that the file extension is reaking havoc here being a .wma ... have you tried uploading an mp3 or midi file?

what did you upload from v2.1 - v2.2 .... if so there shouldnt be a problem

Ok I removed alot of those wma's that were huge, all the songs under the "commercial" genre now are wma's that average around 4mb's a piece... all the songs under the other genre's are mp3 format..

Yo Trafix... set my Jukebox to "members only" to kinda give incentive to register, well found a problem..

When a guest or unregistered member clicks on one of the songs to play it and I have the setting set to the 3rd setting which is "On - For members only" not the "On - For members (Credits Required)" it counts the play as a negative play... is there a quick fix for that???????

No the user cant select the genre .... the songs are put into a genra called "A new song" so you can find new uploads easily ... you can hear the song by clicking on the title in the admin song list ... then decide for yourself :)

Ummm, these installer files go into the "install" folder, not the "admincp" folder.

There is only 1 file that is uploaded to the admincp .. vb_jukebox_admin.php

Might you consider making this a feature for a future version? (fingers-crossed).

In my particular instance, my users will be uploading both published songs and original compositions ... and there is no way for me to tell the diff without some way for them to designate which genre.

What happened initally when I ran the script was I was getting an error because the script used the variable $admincpdir to set some other variables containing directory values. The problem is the $admincpdir in the script contains the value of "admincp" which is incorrect because I renamed my admincp folder during the inital vB install so that directory doesn't exist. I changed it by hard coding it to the correct folder name but then it produced errors once I checked the jukebox option and clicked install. I wonder if the installer script uses that variable elsewhere and it's causing the problems.
I will try the manual method. Thanks for the link.

Okay....I went through the manual install and it appears most of it works. I see the vb Jukebox in the left hand column of my Admin CP and the Quick Link takes me to the Jukebox forum but I don't see the anyplace under vB options to set the Jukebox options. Any ideas where I may have went wrong?

hmm, if the permissions are set for the mods properly they should be able to upload.

The uploader has issues with large files so that could be another reason y they are having problems.

uploading manually wont blow your bandwith through the roof ... its the downloading when members play songs that could do that. if you have a busy jukebox maybe you could add a new usergroup and charge them for the use of the juke :)

Man sometimes I am really thick in the head! My problem with running the installer was I was clicking on the "Generate Files" check box. By reading the description I thought it had to be checked in order for the install to work. I'll let you in on a little secret, the installer saves a LOT of work. :D
Any way, it works now and the install button shall be clicked. It's a great hack and obviously a lot of work went into developing it. Thanks for your help Trafix. It was greatly appreciated, especially when I see a lot of hacks that have problems and the developer just seems to disapear. You have taken a lot of time to modify the code to what others want and have spent a good deal of effort in helping people get the hack working.

I hate to be a pain but is it possible to make it a conditional, or separate option to allow both hosted and remote files, instead of either/or? Check it out now... added a login feature.. prompting you to register if your not a member, once your a member and logged in, it gives you info on the Jukebox.. whats playing, top 10, etc..

If I clean up the code and put a little work into it, I'm going to release it as a add on for the jukebox.. any good names you got for it? like the hot box for the juke box, LOL or some thing ?

OH and do songs uploaded goto the Media Folder you have set in vb_jukebox under vb options? if so, upload aint working for me, I have the path set with the exact URL "http://path" is that correct?

in the vb options area of the admincp has to be configured ...... you can turn it on there

use "manual data entry" for large songs ... upload them to your music folder with your ftp client and then enter the data in the "manual data entry" section

I have this installed and seeming everything is okay, paths are correct and no errors. However, when I uploaded a song (manually) it will not play from the regular vb_jukebox.php page. Correct, I am not exactly sure what that means because it's not very clear. Will it announce it in a forum? I just want to test and not advertise ityet. Also, is this the reason the songs will not play when clicked on? Nothing happens, it acts like it's trying to open in a new window (popups allowed on my browser) but nothing happens.

As an admin when a user uploads a song and I approve it ... is there any way for me to know what category the user intended for the song? Thanks.
No the user cant select the genre .... the songs are put into a genra called "A new song" so you can find new uploads easily ... you can hear the song by clicking on the title in the admin song list ... then decide for yourself
Might you consider making this a feature for a future version? (fingers-crossed).
In my particular instance, my users will be uploading both published songs and original compositions ... and there is no way for me to tell the diff without some way for them to designate which genre.

I was going to push my luck by mentioning another sweet add-on request that would allow a second upload option in the pop-up window for an image file. My notion was that this image could then be displayed in the announcement thread entry for the new entry. Handy for displaying cd covers or sheet music or picture of artist, etc.

How about this:

Members upload the files to a "temp" directory on the database server. Then I run a CRON job every hour to copy new uploads over to the other server automatically, and delete them from the database server.

Can your hack be set to ONLY look to the second server to play, but allow upload to the primary server (as normal)?

ANSWER - i havent looked into this, but from memory there could be a .htaccess alteration that could prevent this.

I'm hoping T will add the ability for the category the user wants the entry displayed in to be related to admin, so I won't have to guess when I approve them.

Hi, excellent hack!

I am having trouble uploading larger files through the web upload feature. The upload process goes through, but at the end there is no file anywhere to be found. The upload feature through the Admincp ends up with "invalid file name". This does not happen with small files. Is there any workaround for this problem?

I also tried ftp'ng the file directly to the folder, but couldn't find a way to add it in. I tried adding the file through the admincp upload page, but it just said that the file was already uploaded.

I installed VBJuke box today but I have not been able to get it to work. I believe the problem is with a querrie or a phrase. Both of which I totally suck at.

The problem I had at first was that I could not get my songs to paly. I tried changing the paths etc and still nothing. After that I tried to run the uninsatller so I could try to reinstall and I get a database error. Now when I go to the jukebox php file I get a blank page..

If anyone is familiar with this install and can help me get this going I'd appreciate it. If your not familiar with this particular please don't respond..

I don't have much money but I will paypal who ever can fix this a predetermined amount....

I am really starting to get a little teed off. A few people have offered to help me and noone has followed through.

Check your usergroups make sure there's nothing screwy going on, and re check members only, should work fine

All songs can be played without refreshing the page. Users just have to lick on the song link and the page will play that song.

I tried to uninstall the hack but it gave me a db syntax error so I went in the dba dn dropped the table cause everything else was dropped..

thn I reran the installer, everything went fine but when I go to the acp area and the jukebox page I get this.... :( and trafix isnt around :(

well iv installed this on 3 fresh boards, and tried on one live board. and none worked, and now i have 90 users that ill have to import to a new baord and start all over.. i do not recomend this hack to anyone. unless you have some special luck that i didn't ? im currently paying someone to convert ibp's unrealjukebox to vB guess i wont have music on my board untill then.. *uninstalls*

when manually putting in the songs because you ftp'd them into place...for filename, just put the actual file name - NO PATH OR URL, ETC. (ie: one of my songs is called +++++. i would put in filename: +++++.mp3) that was the main cause of my problems, the f'n path.

and also i THINK the player has a problem with us using ":" in the song title, but im not messing with it anymore to figure it out or not. it's working now so why mess with it....

Is it my imagination or what? When I go to edit a song, all there is is the song name and genre. The file itself does not show.

Please see screenshot. The version says 1.0. The file that I just downloaded says 2.30. When I try to re-install, it tells me that I have version 2.0 and the file itself is 2.0 and will not install.

Back to the edit, I could have swear that I used to edit before.

Although the hack would have been great and is a good idea, it didn't work. I'm not a professional coder but I was wise enough to complete the sloppy installation procedures only to face issues with uploading files. The uninstallation caused sql errors to erupt in the process. Maybe ditching the HIS install?

Ok, well i just installed this, and tried the manual add option, uploaded the files to the folder, and when i go to type in the "filename" and click upload it doesn't do anything, likes its disabled....if i delete what i entered in as the filename i click upload it gives me an error....if i click the browse button and search the song to upload it tells me its uploaded already.

So what are the steps to have the software read the files that are already in the folder? I have a ton of songs to upload and don't want to do each one via the broswer?

So ... how to fix it ?Do you maybe have your admincp directory renamed? If yes, change this in teh his configuration file.

I am trying to pull up one of the admin panels. You can see the one I'm referring to in the screen shots. It's the bottom left image in the screen shots.

Do I have to run setup again to access this? I am trying to turnoff the play song on page load. But would like admincp access to those options.

Upload song by jukebox is not easy , and sometime , it can't play music ( the link is good ) !
U can upload the music by Flash FXP or Cute FTP .... to the Folder U want .
After that , U creat the file like x.m3u , in this file , U write the link to the song U want to play !
and , now , in vb_jukebox admincp , U upload x.m3u ! It's very small , and plays well .

I installed, it works. BUT... for some reason "I" cant hear any songs! every one else can... It says playing. But i dont hear anything! I have tried everything i can think of.

I tried with mozilla and internet explorer! It says playing but i cant hear anything.

Hi i'm in the progress of setting up a new site and this hack looks exactly what we are looking for. I have one question though.

Can each member have a personal "gallery" of the songs they uploaded as well as have a limit of ex.3 song uploads?

Hrm, evertime i upload a song using ftp and manually add it ...it will show in the jukebox and even say now playing - Song title...but nothing plays ????


i uploaded the files to root/forums/midi
and then used the admincp to manually add it


I need help on this one :(

I have been running this hack since it just first came out with no problems but alot of members register at my site just for my jukebox and dont contribute to the community, does anyone currently running the jukebox see a way I can restrict members by the amount of posts they have ?????????????????????????

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I might even throw you some money if someone can help me out, I'm loosing the on going fight LOL, too many people just register for my jbox, again any help is greatly appreciated...

i get this error when i try to go to the file edits screem
and im isntalling this ona fresh board,, only thing i've done to it is added a skin

Got the hack to work, but I can't hear songs
tried to uninstall this and it did the first bit before coming up with an error. Tried to reinstall it and it says it's already installed. Try to visit the vbjukebox via the forum and nothing shows now.

Any help before I lose my patience and wizz my computer through the window?
