View Full Version : Images in Subject Line

In certain forums that we have, we use a content rating system semi-borrowed from the ESRB Rating System in order to ensure that content is capable of being determined prior to reading. We use the replacement values feature in order to make it easy for people to put these images with their titles in the subject line.

Here's the problem. It looks great in the Thread View. But when we get to the Forum view, it has issues. (see attachments). Is there anything that someone can suggest that might be able to either strip the image tag (or any HTML) from the thread view there or otherwise clean this up?

I'm willing to entertain even other options that would allow for this rating system to work for us, so long as it looks nice and clean.

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you use post icons to represent them?

or are they used for something other than smileys? :)

Interesting. I like that. But how would I go about implementing something like that? It's a marvelous idea!!

I found it. Great idea. Thanks again.

Yup, it's basically done right through the admin panel -- and you can even set them per usergroup I think, not that it sounds like you have to~

Good luck.

I found by usergroup. I wonder if there is a way to utilize the permissions for them on a specific forum level only. I would tend to think not, but I'd be interested in any modification that could do that too.

Hmm, yeah I looked around for something similar once. In the end we decided that it wouldn't be worth the effort to split them based on forum (as ours were kind of generic anyways)

That might be a good modification request, if it's really something you think would be needed.

Thanks again for your input. If there ever is a post icon restriction by forums, I'll be all over it and most willing to test it out. :D

The error or misalignment in the second pic you posted is almost certainly an HTML typo in the template as evidenced by the "> and the image position. Maybe a quick proof read will give ya what ya want.

I was browsing today and came across this:

Any help?

I'll have to take a look into that one. Looks promising. Now if I could just find a way to strip the HTML from the Thread View ... this might work for vbAdvanced Gallery since I haven't figured out how to add post icons back into that mod. :( ... All in good time.

Thanks again for that suggestion. Works like a charm so far.
