Putting Navbar links & What's happening/users online in sidebar

Hi. I really want to have the Navbar, with all the links - the welcome message - and the 'what's happening/users online etc' in a sidebar on the left hand side of the screen.

Anyone know the necessary code to change to make this happen?

Could explain a little more, where exactly you want it for example?
