Two user ID's with one email - How?

I just got my forum up and running earlier this month and for the most part has been running very smooth. All my users love vBulletin compared to the Snitz2000 forum I had before. But I have one couple who share their email address but wish to have individual forum handles. Is there a way to enable this for them without turning off unique email for all users?

You could always create the 2nd account manually.

I did create the second account manually, but when the user tries to log in she gets an invalid account message. A suggestion I got from vb.com was to turn off unique email, have them login in to validate account, then turn unique email back on. I'll try that, but I'm dubious.
