Event Chronology Hack v1.0

Hack by : cinq
Tested and working with vb3.0.3 (earlier version untested but should work)

WHATS IT DO ?
This hack allows the administrator to maintain a listing of the past events that your site has organized.
This allows you to document past event history in a quick summary, and may be useful for potential sponsors to view.
Such events can be in the form of talks, outings, conventions, auctions, competitons, and so on. You are only limited by your imagination. As this hack uses phrases, you can easily change the context to make it suit your requirements.

FEATURES

AdminCP
Installer script

Admin options

Manage current events
- view all current events at one go
- allows for the following ( edit event - remove event - add event )

Add event has the following fields:
- event title
- event image
- event description
- event display order (to order how they will be displayed)

Fully template based, alter the 2 templates created to suit your desired layout.

This Hack is tested and working on vb 3.0.3 but should work on ALL 3.x.x versions as well.

i like this, but also, would it be possible to make a list of future events maybe like events for the next 30 days or however many days you want to show?

Lethal
12-08-2004, 01:46 PM
also do you have a list of what the list will look like?

cinq

Thanks folks :)

You can always add in future events too, choice is yours, just mention it in the event description part. Perhaps you can clarify in greater detail exactly what you want and I will see if it is possible ? :)

Like your idea but I need to see what the end result is before I decide to install your hack. Visualization sells hacks. Need to have more of what the page looks like then what the back end looks like.

Thanks,

SS uploaded as requested.
It's a rather simple layout , but remember the layout can be totally customized and determined by you. It's all in the templates :D

Future versions feature requests are also welcome. :)

So I gather that this is completely separate from the Calender feature? :)

All works good for me but when I go to add an event there is no description of what each input field is - now i got the info by looking at your screen shot - all the fields are present but on the left side their is no description.

Besides the fact that this is a great hack, I have some problems with it :/

It won't show what the title is in the admin CP. Screenshots:

I presume both ChrisBaktis and X-sector are experiencing the same problems ?
Got to do with the phrases addition, I will go through it tmr and provide a fix for it.

Thanks for the feedback folks :)

I have a little MySQL error

Datenbankfehler in vBulletin 3.0.3:

Ungueltige SQL-Abfrage:
INSERT INTO phrase (languageid, varname, text, phrasetypeid) VALUES (0, 'deleted_event_successfully', 'Event has been deleted successfully', 9000)

I have a little MySQL error
That's odd.
Is this your first installation ?

cinq
12-14-2004, 11:57 PM
ChrisBaktis and X-sector, did the installation script complete for both of you guys ?

cinq

Have updated the zip file.
Notification has been sent to all who installed this hack. :)

HarryBO
12-15-2004, 10:09 AM
Yeah I became that error at the first install! After that i delete the entry in the Database and try it again!

HarryBO
12-15-2004, 10:33 AM
Now i tried to add the Querys at phpmyadmin!

Result:

MySQL meldet:

#1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '" . TABLE_PREFIX . "phrase( languageid,
varname,
text,
phrasety

cinq
12-15-2004, 10:36 AM
Which entries in the DB did you delete?
Also you should not be getting that error if you are using the updated attached file.
Download it again and try it out Harry :)

HarryBO

I´ve deleted the eventchrono. I tried the Update ---> Same error as before!

The first error is because you installed more than once and the query reports duplicate entries in your phrase table.

The second is not a full error message ?

Btw.....are you using the installation script to install again or are you copying the queries and inserting them manually ....

HarryBO
12-16-2004, 03:40 PM
I copy the queries and install manually!

cinq
12-16-2004, 11:17 PM
Then the error is because you have

" . TABLE_PREFIX . "

in the copied SQL query.
Remove that portion as you will not have the same problem again.

HarryBO
12-17-2004, 02:32 PM
It seems to be working!

Big Thx!

works perfectly now. Great hack :)

cinq
12-20-2004, 01:10 AM
I might carry on work on this in the future but am right now busy with my original articles hack ( which I might release pending a few issues ).

Feature considerations for this hack include :
- past events grouping
-future events grouping
- draft an event ( pending event )
- comments system

how would i go about having this show in a side bar on my site?

cinq
12-21-2004, 06:04 AM
Whatya mean side bar ?

stan68
12-22-2004, 10:12 PM
i have a side bar on my forum / it has a small calander vbradio ect..
i was just wondering if there was a way to have it output the image or something so i could put it on the sidebar.

so people would be able to see whats up for new events on the forum home.

cinq
12-23-2004, 12:37 AM
Yes you can, but it is outside the scope of this hack.
You will need to add code to your forum index.php to query the eventchrono table, and amend the FORUMHOME template accordingly :)

great hack!
installed!

btw, what about page navigation? i.e: 10 events on one page.

zurih
01-28-2005, 09:32 AM
anyone knows how to get the page split after X events?
links threads...

cinq

I will continue work on this after completing my vbArticles Hack, thanks for the suggestion zurih :)

Why is the image required? It should be optional.

Koutaru

The pagination would be great :) That's all I really would need to compeltly install this hack! Nice!

This mod is exactly what I've needed at my board. It could use some improvements, certainly, but so far it's pretty good. I got annoyed with the requirement for an image for every time you added an event, so I removed it. I'm about 70% sure I only changed the one line, so if this doesn't work don't blame me. ;)

On line 93 find: else
{
print_stop_message('invalid_file_specified');
}
Substitue:else
{
$_POST['do'] = 'doadd1';
}For new features I'd like to see nested events. For use on my board each 'event' is going to be a timeslot in our RPG timeline, and the event description will be filled with the actual events. This could be made a lot easier, while yet maintaining the flexibility of this mod by allowing nested events.

Lionel

Is there a way to do without the image?

cinq
06-01-2005, 01:53 PM
Not at the moment, but in the next version it'll be the case.
