View Full Version : vbulletin and eBay integration mod?

I was surprised not to find one out there already, actually. (Unless there is one and I'm not seeing it.)
With all of the developers tools for both eBay and PayPal, it seems like integrating part of eBay into vB would be feasible. I'm looking for something where I could either provide my users with a forum for their eBay listings, or maybe even a seperate component on index.php which shows eBay listings from each user (either entered manually or taken from some minor integration.)
Or even a way to add an eBay ID box (similar to the messenger ID) to the members list?
Several of my users use eBay and have wanted a way to 'neatly' throw out some additional advertising for the listsings on the forum. Would it possible to do this even with HTML tags/codes?
I'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to modding, but thought this to be a good suggestion - at least for those that use eBay....?

You could add an extra profile field to the profile and the add a simple template edit to the postbit templates to link to the users eBay account.

after posting this, i did manage to edit my postbit, creating an icon next to the messenger icon and adding a postfield that allowed me to link to a sellers page.
I was just looking for something more extensive - but I'm probably thinking out of my league here, not knowing much about developers tools for eBay or vB.
thanks for the suggestion!

I'm using the editor kit on my site to display an auction list using a search term users add to their profile. I added the profile field to the code that you use on your site so the list is automacally generated when you open the page. It should work the same way by using ebay user ID's. The kit can be found here. http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?EKCreate (If your not an affiliate sign up and you will get some commision from this ;) )
Attached is a screen shot of how it should look.
Mine is set up to use the profile field of whoever is viewing the page (global.php) so it's pretty simple. Yours will be a little more involved, but could be accomplished by creating another template for member.php (member.php?&do=ebay)
I might take a look at it if I have time.

hey, what you've got there is exactly what i'm wanting. is there any way that you'd be interested in showing me the edits you did in order to get to where you're at in the attachment?
do i need the affiliate kit for this?

I don't think you have to be an affiliate, just have an Ebay account.
Here is the modified version using the members Ebay ID from a profile field. (I don't have any auctions so I used a random Ebay ID in my profile to list the auctions)
Click Here (http://www.modernengineuity.com/forums/member.php?&do=memberauctions&userid=1)
I'll try to throw some instructions together.

hey, that's great. so i signed up for the commission and managed to get the Editor Kit, but how would i incorporate this straight into my vB? Would I create a link for each user (that I would have to create manually via the editor kit) or can i just somehow use the global field of $post[field11] (my eBay user ID field) to inject my user's eBay ID's into the editor kit's URL?
This is all too much for me - my head is swimming. Can you point me in the right direction?

Since you already have the profile field set up, here is a quick how-to that I threw together. I'll have to clean the instructions up later and add it as a complete hack.

I put this together rather quickly in response to the original request, but since there seems to some interest in it, I would like to release it as a hack so it's more visible.

sorry, was going to get back to you. this worked out great, but for some reason, any and all of my applications for the ebay affiliate thing were denied. i ended up using only the template hack you suggested.
I also wanted to send you this, it's an ebay icon, with a white border surrounding it - Right now it has a redish matte, but with the white border, you can easily change it without harming anything.
Thanks for all your efforts! (I'm currently working on v3.0.4 and my semi-modded board...)

Install went easy...hardest part was just figuring out where I wanted the eBay logo in the postibit...I found the instructions easy to understand and follow.

Great, Chris. Thanks for the feedback. :)
So, bi11i, was an ebay affifialte account required to use the tool? I haven't tested it yet, but it looks like there is an option for non-affilate Ebay accounts.

SVTBlackLight01 - excellent work. I can verify that you do NOT need an affiliate account to use this hack. I must admit that things do get a little confusing in the sniplet stage when they ask for search paramaters. Perhaps you could put in your instructions for the coder to just input "userid1" in the second option where they ask for 'Search by Seller Id" (or something like that... i'm doing this from memory).
Anyhow, this would then help the coder find the &si= substitute area a little quicker. I ended up signing up with commission junction and adding search parameters up the wazoo before finally figuring it out. ROFLcopters and LOLlerskates. oh well.
In addition, I would like to suggest adding the following coding to the "memberlist_resultsbit" template. This would allow people to pull up a member's eBay listing when they do a Members List search. The ebay.gif link your provided will be displayed right under each Member's name and User Title (assuming User Titles is enabled.)
ok:
ADD A LINKED ICON IN MEMBERS LIST
In "memberlist_resultsbit" template, find (it's right near the top):
<if condition="$show['usertitlecol']"><div class="smallfont">$userinfo[usertitle]</div></if>
Below, add:
<!--eBay Listings bit-->
<if condition="$userinfo['fieldx']"><a href="member.php?&do=memberauctions&userid=$userinfo[userid]"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/ebay.gif" alt="$userinfo[musername]'s eBay Auctions" border="0" /></a></if></div>
<!-- // eBay Listings bit-->
I think that's right and again, i'm doing it by memory. I'm not really a coder and haven't tested it out on an active board.
Good luck all and great work SVTBlackLight01!

Thanks, yinyang. :) And thanks for the tips for the seller ID and the update about the account requirements. The only required search perameter for this hack is the Seller ID. The rest is mostly user preference.
The icon in the member list is a great addition.

The script can be found here.

Right now it's just using a static version of my header & footer. I haven't played with it enough yet to integrate it with the vB styles.

I loved it, and thought I might add my version of the ebay.gif image :)
Does each member have to sign up for that eBay toolkit thing in order to use this?
SVTBlackLight01

Nope. All they need is an Ebay user ID. They can use their own or someone elses. ;)

hi guys, I REALLLLY want to get this working but have hit a snag. As far as I can tell I have done everyting as instructed but nothing seems to happen. I entered my ebay id in my profile, linked that profile in all the codes, but the ebay link doesn't show in the postbit. Here is my member template code, is it something screwed up here? Thanks!

ok i made some progress, I now have the ebay icon showing on my postbit, but when i click it i get to a page that looks like it wants to show my auctions but nothing shows. I think my ebay code snippet is screwed up. I just don't follow how to do this:
When adding your Ebay Sniplet Source Code to the template, find this bit &si=whatever and add your profile field: &si=$userinfo[fieldx]
Ok I have made more progress. I know have a working link, as in i get auctions showing up, however they have nothing to do with me! It's like they are random auctions coming from somewhere. Here is the script I am trying to get working:
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://lapi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?EKServer&ai=aojxpmx&bdrcolor=FFCC00& cid=0&eksize=1&encode=ISO-8859-1&endcolor=FF0000&endtime=y&fbgcolor=FFFFFF&fntcol or=000000&fs=0&hdrcolor=FFFFCC&hdrimage=1&hdrsrch= n&img=y&lnkcolor=0000FF&logo=2&num=25&numbid=y&pay pal=n&popup=y&prvd=1&r0=2&shipcost=n&siteid=$useri nfo[field6]&sort=MetaEndSort&sortby=endtime&sortdir=asc&srchd esc=n&tbgcolor=FFFFFF&tlecolor=FFCE63&tlefs=0&tlfc olor=000000&track=1612559&width=570"></script>
I have tried variations of it using my 'field6' with no luck, it's like it can't recognize my ebay account id? :(
**FIXED
I replaced siteid= with si=$userinfo[field6]
This is too cool!

I got it working with the one in this thread thanks, now what I need is an additional mod that I am willing to pay for. Can someone make it so I have 1 page that loads all member ebay listings in a unified view? For example say 50 of my members add their ebay profile to the field6 in the profile, can i then have a page that grabs all users using that field, then hooks their ebay id's to the ebay script, and does all listings to one page? Please let me know if this is possible and can be done, reply or PM me, thanks!!

Since you already have the profile field set up, here is a quick how-to that I threw together. I'll have to clean the instructions up later and add it as a complete hack.
This ought to be 'released' as an official mod! Works fantastic once I read ahead and discovered that you had to swap out the siteid= with the si= in the readme!
Thank you for this... /me is a very happy camper and would have clicked install if it was available! :D

Thanks, glad you found it useful. Although an official release was planned, the shift in focus to 3.5 sort of changed that.

I haven't dug into 3.5 much, but I don't think it will work as is.

I have a couple n00b questions. Please bare with me, for I have only messed with vBulletin for 2 days now (the release of 3.5).
I cannot seem to get it working for me. So I have a few questions I'd like to ask:
Firstoff, the above was mentioned --
I replaced siteid= with si=$userinfo[field6]
Does this mean specifically you replaced JUST "siteid=" with "si=userinfo[fieldX]"? What I'm asking, you REMOVED the phrase "sideid=" and NO following code?
Next, in the README it says the following:
find:
<div>$post[icqicon] $post[aimicon] $post[msnicon] $post[yahooicon]
add after:
In phpBB, this would mean to go to the next line. But this isn't phpBB. So when the above statement is made, do I put this code between the "$post[yahooicon]" and the "</div>" OR like phpBB, go to the next line (after the "</div>") and enter in the code?
Again, I KNOW these are very basic questions, but I've spent the last 2 or so years hacking/learing in phpBB.
Thanks!!

Correct, no other code was replaced or removed. All the rest stays just the way it is.
In phpBB, this would mean to go to the next line. But this isn't phpBB. So when the above statement is made, do I put this code between the "$post[yahooicon]" and the "</div>" OR like phpBB, go to the next line (after the "</div>") and enter in the code?
It would go before the </div>. I guess I could probably clarify a little more. Most people on the forums here would have you replace the whole <div>...</div> with the custom version added. However since the release of 3.5 most people installing plugins don't take well with removing or overwriting coding directly from the original files/templates. So thats why I worded it that way. Sorry it was confusing, and no not because you're a "n00b" :D
