Hey Paul
The Hack installed no problem, only thing that does not display for me is the last online time when hoovering over the username. Any idea where i should look?
**Update** It works fine in Firefox, it is IE6 that won't display it.

Installed and working great. Thanks!
I did make a small mod and put it at the bottom of my forumhome, but I have the Who's Online up at the top so it would've taken up too much space. :)

There is no such ability in the code, so it must be something else you have added to your FORUMHOME template.

The only condition present is the <if condition="$show['loggedinusers']"> - this is standard in vB and disables the display if it's turned off in the ACP. I thought of that - but if you had this turned off then I don't see how admins could see it either, it should be disabled for everyone.

I had a look at this for you and it doesn't look like it's a quick and easy change, so I'm afraid you will have to take it as is, Sorry.
Hi Paul
Sorry to be a pain and I knwo people have asked this before but could you please look into this? Please please please? (not just primary usergroup colours to display).
If it really isn't possible can you please let me know how I can 'undo' the SQL query;
ALTER TABLE user ADD INDEX (lastactivity)
(as Im sorry to say I'l have to uninstall it :-( )
Sorry to be a pain!

It's not rocket science - simply use "ALTER TABLE user DROP INDEX (lastactivity)"
More to the point - Why do you need to uninstall it ??

Hi Paul
Sorry yeah I just wanted to double check!
The reason I need to uninstall it (and use a different hack) is because I need the colours to show for the chosen usergroup not just the primary usergroup - I was hoping you might be able to sort this out for us as there seems to be quite a few people requesting it... please would you? :-)

In the FORUMHOME Template ;
I cant figure out this bit...where is the forumhome template?
I've search through the whole vb folder and cant find what it is?
MickDoneDee

The forumhome template can be accessed in the Admin Control Panel. From there click Style Manager which is in the Styles and Templates dropdown menu. To the right of All Style Options click the Expand Templates icon << >>. Scroll down until you find the Forum Home Templates. Double-click to expand and look for FORUMHOME. Click it and then click the Edit button to make changes to the template.

I have the users posted today and users visited today in the top nav and the template just expands, I would like to put a line break in there so that the users would just move to the next line. Right now it's just throwing off the template, I'm so tempted to just take it off, but I like having it on the top.
Is there a way to put a line break for the users online (as well as users today)? If so, is it in the index.php where I put the hack? Where would the line break go, details and code if possible would be great, thanks!
They are great hacks, Paul, thank you for writing them! :)
TIA

Never mind, Paul, I just took it off and moved it to the bottom boxes. I didn't know and still don't know where to put a line break as the template just expands in the upper navbar box.
Yup, you have to be a female and registered to see the forum. I do have a test user, but everything is hidden from view with that user as well.

The instructions say to run this query:
ALTER TABLE user ADD INDEX (lastactivity)
But when we do we get an error saying "Table doesn't exist". Our database has vb3_ in front of everything, so should we change that command to;
ALTER TABLE vb3_user ADD INDEX (lastactivity)
...I'm just guessing here :rolleyes:

Well crap; I really like being able to see when I have had more users online in one day then ever before. So theres no way for it to work with this hack at all? I figured it would be simple storing a variable?

I didn't say there is no way for it to work, I said this hack doesn't do it - and I have no plans to change this hack. However, I have been playing with another hack (to split the max online into members & guests) that may also have a sort of plugin for this hack (and a couple of other hacks of mine). Keep an eye out for it. :)

I installed, but when you click a members name in the list it would take me to this page.

This happened before and the fix was to find and replace in the templates. .php - .phtml as on my server vbulletin is installed with the phtml extensions.
Anyone know how I might beable to fix this. It showed up and worked nicely, just the clicking on member names didn't work as planned.
[b]Disregard, I got it fixed. I had to edit index.phtml as there was one piece of code in there directing to <a href='member.php?u=$today[userid]' title='$wrdate' > so I just changed it to member.phtml.

it could be something to do with the two digits numbers in the hour of the time between 10 and 12..
ie looking at 8,9,10,11,12,1
the times that don't work all have two digits in the hour portion of the clock..

Hello,
I've installed and it works wonderfully. The only thing is that when I added the CMPS module it now doubles the $whotoday string at the bottom of the forumhome. Perhaps this is cause my CMPS is integrated with my forumhome.
ie. in the CMPS module it shows
? Total members online today: 8
and3w, hellgrf, Lucky Phil, Moses, SOC, The Dude, The Drunk, VBarbz
but then at the bottom of forumhome it shows
Total users that have visited today: 8
and3w, hellgrf, Lucky Phil, Moses, SOC, The Dude, The Drunk, VBarbzand3w, hellgrf, Lucky Phil, Moses, SOC, The Dude, The Drunk, VBarbz

add ;
unset($whotoday);
above ;
// ############# End of Who has visited today ###############

Ever since my recent server move, at around 7pm or 8pm CST, the users online today reset, instead of it happening at midnight. Any idea as to why?

Check your TZ setting in your profile. If necessary, change it, and then change it back again. The hack uses your profiles TZ setting to calculate how long ago your (last) midnight was.

I think Paul is saying to set it to GMT -7, save it, change it back to GMT -6, save it again, then retest.

I did that and it still shows the same results.

No, I am referring to your personal timezone settings in your usercp. :)

Paul,
That didn't fix it. My time is showing correct as well in CST. Any other ideas?

Please confirm the url of your site - as the one linked to in your profile does not have this hack installed (nor are you showing as having clicked install here on vb.org).

That site also does not have this hack installed - it has Gary Kings "online today" hack.

Ill install this when I get home. Is there anyway to start the list automatically colapsed as we have thousands of people a day...Not really - collapse information is stored in your local cookie. Install it just after midnight, and then warn people :)

Well is it possible to have the user list on a seperate file, a pop up or a seperate page?

Well is it possible to have the user list on a seperate file, a pop up or a seperate page?Most things are possible if you write them - it would take a bit of work to make it a pop-up. Not something I'm going to do. You might want to contact ericgtr, I believe he did something like this.

I am having an issue with the mod resetting, its not showing how many users are online when it first resets. When i first installed it, it worked great and I saw everyone who was online all day today, now at this point it is reset and it isnt showing anything even though there are 9 ppl on right now. Do you have any ideas why this would be???
Jo
Paul M
06-11-2005, 11:24 AM
1. It resets at (your) midnight.
2. After midnight, people will not appear until they are actually active again. They can still appear to be on the forum because of the cookie timeout - but have't done anything since before the reset point.

That's only the status of your hack. When you clicked there you have the right for support.
You still have to click the attached file to download.

What is homeindex.php ?
You forum is closed so I can't see anything.
This is almost the simplest hack in the world, are you sure you edited the right file and template ?
What editor did you use ?
hello
06-18-2005, 11:36 PM
I turend it on, and i did edit the file perfect but it was when i went to do the template it all went wrong, homeindex.php <- index.php renamed it for my portal thats all
$iterations++;
$gettime += 86400;
}
} <--line 202
}
thats what the error is reffering to
Paul M
06-19-2005, 02:32 AM
That code is about 80 lines above where you should have inserted the code for this hack, so I cannot see anyway it could affect it, unless you did the edit wrong. Perhaps you could PM a copy of your homeindex.php
hello
06-19-2005, 10:59 AM
I have actually removed my homeindex.php edits and it still has same error i uploaded a backed up one and same error. I think it was when i edited the template it said soemthing about and error in includes/adminfunctions_template but i reset that as well but no change.
I have a full site back up but can get it to reset my database i get same error no matter what i do.
And the part of the code it says i didnt touch it, i only edited the bit you said in the instructions and that went perfect, but editing the templates i got massive errors.
(i have a full backup of everything, and i havent had the need to use it before so can you help me put it on so its all reset to just before i did this hack, i made it just before, but i got no idea how to get it back on to reset it all)
Sorry for sounding stupid.:(
ILL STILL PM YOU A COPY OF HOMEINDEX.PHP
Paul M
06-19-2005, 01:26 PM
Actually I should have read the original error properly instead of your next post - the error was not in homeindex.php, but in your FORUMHOME template. When you edited it you would have been told there was an error, but you chose to ignore it and continue.
You appear to have further broken your homeindex file on your site, but the copy you PM'd to me works fine. If you PM me your e-mail address I will send your copy back, with the hack code added. In the meantime, PM me your FORUMHOME template and I will see if I can see how you managed to break it.

Will this work with 3.0.6?
Paul M
06-19-2005, 10:20 PM
Okay, the error in your template is very simple.
Find this small section of the template ;
<!-- Todays active users -->
</if>
<!-- Start vBChat Users -->
and remove the hilighted "</if>".
The reason it's there is because you didn't quite follow the instructions (because in fact you couldn't). The instructions include replacing a block of code which finishes with an </if> with another block of code that also ends with an </if>. However, because you have already hacked your template for vbchat, that exact block of code wasn't there to remove - so it looks like you removed what you could find - but as a result you ended up adding an extra </if>. As a result, I have actually changed the instructions so that this tiny mistake should not be made by anyone else who has a previously hacked template.
I have e-mailed you a working homeindex.php :)

Here is an update to this hack that Paul authorized with me.
What it does?
Allows you to see the current list of users in a popup box rather than the standard collapsable menu.
Why Bother?
I personally had to many collapsable menus as it was, and my forumhome just looked tacky with all of them. So I created this instead.
No bugs so far, but I offer to chance to test it out!
Thanks! Screenshots attached!

To appear as "active" in this hack - you must have actually done something in the forum to update your lastactivity timestamp - after it's cutoff point (which should be midnight). You can appear in the active users list becasue you connected before the cutoff point, but not have been active after the cutoff point, so you won't be displayed by this hack.

It was on at first, after your reply it looked like you ask to turn it off, so I turned it off.

Also having quite a few users login within a day I realise it would use quite a lot of space.

Your choice, but to answer those points - the list is collapsable - it uses 1 line when collapsed, and one select query [on forumhome only as well !) is nothing - it will never be noticed, affect nothing etc.

To update it to 2.20 change this ;
require_once('./includes/functions_misc.php');
$now = TIMENOW - intval($vboptions['hourdif']);
$cutoff = vbmktime(0, 0, 0, date('m', $now), date('d', $now), date('Y', $now));
to this ;
$tz = $bbuserinfo['timezoneoffset'] + $bbuserinfo['dstonoff'];
$now = TIMENOW + ($tz * 3600) - date('Z',TIMENOW);
$cutoff = mktime(0, 0, 0, date('m', $now), date('d', $now), date('Y', $now));

Paul, I updated your code in my file, and Im still having problems. Even at 12:01am, its still showing the users from yesterday. Actually, it shows nothing ( 0 ), even if I log in and back out. The only way I can get it to show users is by uncommenting this line

Even at 12:01am, its still showing the users from yesterday. Actually, it shows nothing ( 0 ), even if I log in and back out.Sorry but you have confused me here, this seems to contradict itself.
At 12:01am no users seems reasonable as it's likely no one has done anything to update their last activity time past the start time of 12:00 am (you should appear if you start refreshing the page).
I have a bit of debug code I can send you that will display all the timezone relevant information to so I can see how your midnight cutoff is being calculated. I won't have access to it for about 10 hours though.
Uncommenting the line you mention will work, since it's just a simple last 24 hours calculation. :)

I just worded it wrong. Umm, with the updated code. after 12:01am, the list shows noone on there. If i log in, refresh, log out, and check the list, it still shows noone there.
Uncommenting the line though will display my name fine. Not sure what the diff is between all that code and the commented line though.
Of course I cant test it once again until tongiht at 12:01am

Hi, I got the following error when modifying the template. Please advise.
The following error occurred when attempting to evaluate this template:
Parse error: parse error, expecting `T_STRING' or `T_VARIABLE' or `T_NUM_STRING' in /usr26/home/gamtrak/public_html/GamTrakForum/includes/adminfunctions_template.php(3096) : eval()'d code on line 192
This is likely caused by a malformed conditional statement. It is highly recommended that you fix this error before continuing, but you may continue as-is if you wish.
Thanks

The usual reason is missing the </if> in step 2.
In fact, a couple of others have had this problem because they had other template mods installed - so the </if> that's part of the "find" in step 2 was not there, but they replaced the block anyway - and added the extra </if> in the replacement.
I did change the instructions to try and stop people tripping over this, but somewhere along the line the old instructions crept back in. I have reloaded the clearer instructions for you to try (sorry, I had to zip the text file due to the annoying new rule).

Paul, let me start by saying I love this hack! I noticed someone else having the same problem I am having but when I read through I didnt actually see where the issue was resolved.
All of my members are showing as being online within the last 24 hours, I know thats not possible even though I dont have a large board (it's somewhat new). Im running vB3.0.6
http://www.thetanforum.com/index.php (at the bottom)
I removed the Commented $cutoff line as well and Im still not sure what Im doing wrong (Im a noob at this, I think this is my 3rd time installing a mod). This one being the easiest. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Paul, I wanted to come back and report that everything is working great with this hack! Thank you so very much for all of your email assistance.
BTW is there a way to track any stats on the guests that visit the forum? I saw it at another forum but I think is was a php board. Thanks again.

1. Are you running the latest version ?
2. What do you mean by "update at midnight" ?
It should actually become zero at midnight, and remain at zero until members actually visit the forum again [after midnight].

I'm not expert (lol) so I'm just guesing because it's the same on mine which is about 3 weeks old.

This is optional, but will speed up the query if you have a large number of members;
Run the following SQL query;
ALTER TABLE user ADD INDEX (lastactivity)
How many is too many? (2500 registered) (317 today)
Paul M
07-23-2005, 10:21 PM
It will not harm anything to run the query with a low number of users, it's just that the difference would be hard to see - with 2,500 users I would definitely add the index.

Everything works fine from midnight on, but if I uncomment the 24 hour line, ALL registered users are displayed.
// $cutoff = $now - 86400 ; // ## Uncomment this line if you want a rolling 24 hours display ## //
I'm on 3.07.

I'm on 3.07.Ah, you are absolutely right - that's a bug from the last update.
The line should now be ;
// $cutoff = TIMENOW - 86400 ; // ## Uncomment this line if you want a rolling 24 hours display ## //
Code updated, thank you for pointing it out. :)

If I add a new member via the Admion CP, it shows that they have already logged on today even though they haven't yet. Is this intended behavior? ;)

If I add a new member via the Admion CP, it shows that they have already logged on today even though they haven't yet. Is this intended behavior? ;)It's the correct behavior as far as the hack is concerned.
It is a fault/bug with native vB - when you add a new user in the ACP it sets the users Last Activity Time to the time you add the user, which is of course, not really correct.

If you change the template code to this - then it will always show the section as collapsed when you visit (or refresh) the page - meaning you have to manually expand it to see the list of names.

I have it set this way in one style and it is set as original in my alternate style. Worked excellent!

Ok I have scanned threw page after page after page of posts and haven't seen anything to this nature. If someone asked it and I missed it, I'm sorry.
Ok so here is the deal. I have had this hack working nothing less than perfectly for some time now. One that I love.
Today we had a newbie register and somehow got their username in Arabic (or at least I think it's arabic). For some reason it isn't showing properly in this box. It is showing up in the middle of another user's name.
I guess it should show the arabic name then the other, 2zen2, but for whatever reason it's not. Below is a pic of what it looks like in action. For what it's worth, it's showing the same in both IE and Foxfire.
Any clue on how to make it show properly?

The add-on works great!
My issue is with the CMPS hack. When I add the block to my portal it gimps up the formatting. The only place I have it is in the bottom right corner block or otherwise it'll cause every block thereafter to be in a straight line down the rest of the page. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi ive installed it fine, but in the end as you requested to run the following SQL query;
ALTER TABLE user ADD INDEX (lastactivity)
I went to my CP > Import and Maintenance > Execute SQL Query
I get a message saying: 'You are not authorized to execute SQL queries' ?? im the main admin?? who do i not have permission?
Paul M
08-21-2005, 12:21 PM
You need to give your userid permission in the config.php file.
Paul M
08-21-2005, 12:32 PM
....... and ........... now you have added the index ?
yes index is in place everything is in place, and i can see the most active users, but still if i go into Import and Maintenance and click Execute SQL Query it says i dont have permission. Ive logged in and out..,
