I am wondering how sites that have vbulletin can run a site using vbulletin. Is that a hack or what?if it is what is the name so I can know when I buy vB.

You can also code the pages yourself and call the templates from the vBulletin database. There is a small tutorial located in the below thread.

Once you purchase vBulletin, you will be able to use that link as needed, it has all the information you need to create a starter page. All that is left from there is to move forward :).
