View Full Version : vBIndex or vBAdvanced?
I'm about to switch our site to a portal system with vBulletin and I've come across vBIndex and vBAdvenced.
I'm at a loss as to which one is better.
I rather like the ability of vBAdvaced to use modules but how many people are creating modules for it?
Which one has easier to use admin options of block placement?
Do they have the ability to run php inside blocks?
Which is the better mouse trap?
Thanks!

Brew, i suggest you try the search feature here, this topic has been discussed quite often. I think lots of people would suggest you to try vBA nowadays, because it is more actively supported nowadays.

Don't forget about vBPortal which has more options than both.

The vBPortal site is a bit confusing in their lisencing. It seems they want to charge 20 bucks a year to be able to use the portal. I'm not about to do that.
Thanks anyway :ermm:

I use vBadvanced CMPS cuz its the only one I could get to work properly with my themes. I was usint vBportal back when I had vb2 becasue i had bought a skin that supported it... Now I would not really recommnd it if you use a custome skin. vBIndex was hard to install and manuver around, I find vBadvance CMPS a lot easier than most.
Just my personal opinion

I agree about vbPortal, they were the BEST on vb2, but since the move to vb3, I don't really think they cut it.
I personally use vbAdvanced homepage, which is a smaller package of the CMPS, less functions, but still powerfull enough for your basic homepage.
I also use there Links DB as it intergrates nicely.
Sorry can't give you any comments on vbindex as I have never used it, but I have a few friends who use it without any problems.

vbPortal for vb3 is not finished yet (soon will be out of beta)
But for your info:
The new installation requires "NO" files of vbulletin to be edited.
Converting vb3 styles to vbPortal 3 is easier.
There are "loads" more features in vbportal now than in any other portal.
vbportal for vb3 has undergone a "complete" rewrite from previous versions.
Because no files hacks during install means vb upgrades are simple.
Also reference cost....
The $20 is for access to the support forums and gives you "Premium Membership" status. If you do not need access after you join then there is no need to renew your membership and you can still use vbportal script. (at time of writing)
And... If you purchase owned versions of vbulletin or photopost or Hivemail via the banners on vbPortal you get Premium Membership for FREE
Hope this helps :)

I have swithched from vbportal to vbadvanced cmps because vbportal do not support the custum skins and its content like journal sections and contents are of no use as I use GARS

Why don't you install both and find out yourself?

ditto, we also use gars & gals and vBPortal was simply not as compatible as it could be.

I'll keep an eye out for VBPortal for my next site but currently I have VBA for my other site and it does the job for me.
