New Announcement Popup?

I see there's plenty of announcemenr requests here, forumhome. force users to read etc. But what I really need is a way to use the 'new PM' popup message to alert users as to when a new Global Announcement is posted.

Right now people miss them as they generally are clicking into only new posts. And not the forums themselves. I've been asked to find a way to notify (not force) people of new announcements so they can read them.

Anyone give me any hints on how to copy and convert the Pm Popup code to announce a new Global Announcement?

Do you want to send users a PM notifying them that there is a new Global Announcement, or a JScript popup saying something like "There is a new global announcement. Click OK to view or Cancel or close this window"?

Because if its PM notification, I am 100 % sure I can make it. But if its a *new* popup you want, then Im unsure as I dont know much JScript.....
(Note that if there is already a PM notify at announcement hack, I do not know of it and I apologise)

It was the JS popup I was after ;)

A Pm would tend to fill peoples boxes ar too quickly. The JS popup would be far more economical.

Well Ill give it a honest try when I get home (in school atm) :)
If no other replies I will edit this post with an estimate wether or not I can actually do this or not.

EDIT: Yeah Im able to do this. Im just fixing up the template, then slap template and instructions in a readme, then sort out some SQL and its all done :)
