Text editor

There was a thread I read here a long time ago that had a link for backing up your database and templates. It recommended downloading a text editor where on the left side you would load one text file and on the right side you'd load the old text file. It would show you all the differences in these two files regarding the text. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
