Did someone take the navbar off the index page at http://vbulletin.org/ ? It's a little hard to get to the forum index without that. I don't know, maybe there wasn't a full navbar, but it sure looks different!

Regards,

Matt

The logo on the frontpage brings you to the forum.

I am using the (broken purple) style, I thought it was the default, styleID=1

Anyway, ATM it looks like attachment 1. Maybe it needs a navbar, or perhaps the entire style just needs to disappear?

;)

Yep the navbar probably needs to be introduced on that style :)

we've had the navbar on the index page once, and it looked horrible, so it was removed again.

As there is a big logo which leeds to the forumhome (as it's vb default), it's not that needed to get an extra link to the forums i think.

we've had the navbar on the index page once, and it looked horrible, so it was removed again.I don't understand what you mean, Xenon, there are six supported styles and most of them do have have navbars on the homepage.

With Navbar
1. Dark Blue (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/portal.php?styleid=3) Home Forum Chat UserCP Members FAQ New Posts Search Logout
2. Stylish Green (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/portal.php?styleid=2) Home Forums Chat User CP Private Messages Member List View New Posts Search Logout
3. Plain Green (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/portal.php?styleid=6) Home Forums Chat User CP Private Messages Member List View New Posts Search Logout

Without Navbar
1. Vb3 Grey (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/portal.php?styleid=12) (Main logo only)
2. Purple (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/portal.php?styleid=1) (Main logo only)

Mini Navbar
1. Smooth Blue (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/portal.php?styleid=13) Home Forum Chat buttons (This is the default style)

Anyway, the two without any form of Navbar have, IMHO, poor navigation, because of the following:

1. there is no ready access to: Chat UserCP Members FAQ New Posts Search Logout and the Forums link is an unlabeled logo.
2. You have a relatively experienced site user asking you how to get around because they can't find the links.

I am one that believes form follows function, but there is a solution: in the future, I'll just avoid those functionally limited styles.

Matt

Well if your worried about newbies coming to vb.org and not finding the forumhome. Well Smooth Blue the default style has the forum button on it so the newbies and guest can easily navigate to the forums. As for the optional styles, well we assume since your using that style then your obiously part of the vBulletin community and are smart enough to click the big logo. :)

Chat User CP Private Messages Member List View New Posts Search Logout AND the cmps homepage?

I want one of those logos on my homepage!

What is this, National Pick-on-Matt-for-pointing-out-an-inconsistency-in-the-templates Day?

Nevermind, OK?

When you click on the big logo you get all the options above. Not picking on you. ^^

Actually vb3 grey and purple are vb default styles, and not written for vb.org
they're just here, in case someone likes the default ones.

If we'd change them then they wouldn't be default anymore ;)

Exactly the same is true for the other styles with the navbar

Not pointing out the obvious ^^

You know it would take about ten seconds to fix this problem instead of trying to invent wacky justifications that simply make no sense.

In any case, I am through. You can all do what you want.

Well, you may have not understood what i said in the first answer by myself:

We have added the vb3 default navbar to the portal once and it looked horrible, so we've removed it again.

As most styles have their own little navbar as well, this isn't such a problem, and everyone can come from the Portal to the Forumhome and even to the user cp, so it's no need to clutter it more than nessesary.

If you feel different about that, that's up to you, but it is definitelly nothing to "fix" as nothing is broken, it's working as designed.

Personally, I think it's a pain in the backside having to go

www.vbulletin.org (portal) > Forum Home (via logo) > New Posts

It would be mouch better IMO if there were a new posts link on the portal like at vBT. It just saves time and wasted clicks.

TBH I'm not planning on changing my style as the other ones just ain't vB.org to me and with the default on vB.com, the vBT style there and the purple here I can tell instantly which site I'm looking at.

If a new(-ish) member was using the purple style and ended up on the portal then they could get pretty much stuck.

Try and get to the last post made in vB3 code mods - admin tools from the portal using purple skin and without clicking on the logo once.

Count the clicks.

Even I can forget the simple task of clicking the logo when I'm having a blonde day (and I have a few :()
