Did anybody release this hack (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=56218&highlight=raffle+ticket) for vb3.x at all or is anyone thinking of releasing it as I think it would be a great addition to my board

Hey Chet

Nobody ever replied to my request and I still want it, but like you now for vB3.0.3

Since vB3 has already a paypal gate it should be easier to make.

Hopefully one of the great coders here can help us to make that perfect Raffle system as we are probably not the only one who would like to offer it to their members.

I offered then $$$ and I do offer it again $$$ for vB3.0.3

I asked filburt if his system will be converted to vB3 but he doesn't want to do the job, due his work load, but maybe he can be so kind to offer his script for vB2 here and let somebody convert it, because there are so many people out there who wants this.

Maybe we can create a small group, put some $$$ together and ask somebody who wants to do it.

Do you guys not realize that online raffles are illegal?

chrisroo:
Perhaps the concept is directed/designed for non-profit organizations, or possibly a church group. I'm certain the programmer(s) can provide a simple "intended use" disclaimer within the release requirements. ;) :D

hruh? We do them all the time at christmas parties for gifts certificates etc.

Online? Yeah for non-profit they are legal, But if you live in the united states you cannot hold an online raffle drawing, you may participate but you may not actually hold one. It violates U.S. Anti-Lottery Laws. You can look them up if you would like.

I am looking forward to doing some user testing on this once trafix has released the beta version. This is a paid coding request and trafix has kindly offered to develop for our site www.funkysmart.co.uk.

As so many wanted to see this one up and running I'm sure we can work something out regarding general release.

I will keep you all posted, Cheers trafix.

Does anyone know if it's illegal for such a feature to be made available on a website owned by someone who lives in the uk, but which is situated on an american server?

if the server is in the usa then the server company won't allow it because they are responsile - and you would probably lose your hosting contract. Anyway i think there is a similar lottery type law to the USA in england. That's why there is only camelot who can run lotteries. It's all part of the gambling act so you would need to check it out.

Yep! 100% illegal. MacRaffle.com was shut down by the Ohio State Attourney General's office a year or two ago. Don't take chances folks. It's not worth it. All you have ever made + some will be lost.

If they where LEGAL, EVERYONE WOULD BE DOING IT!

Yes, some non-profit orgs CAN do them, but this varies WIDELY by which state they are registered in. Texas limits you to 2 per year. Other states don't set limits, others require registration of the raffle... again that applies to LEGIT non-profit registered with the state organizations.

I see sites doing this all the time. But it's illegal!

One of my users created an "offsite" raffle here: http://uselessforums.theintarweb.net/lottery/

It's pretty basic, but thats all I'd need. Bells and whistles are optional. LOL

Yes I would be very interested in this as well. We host many charitable auctions, we would have liked something like this to assist a friend we're currently trying to help who lost a thirteen year old son.. Recently we've been holding donation type auctions but a mod\hack like this would really help! If anyone can do something like this, SERIOUSLY.... I'll be happy to make it worth their effort. Please contact me.
