Ohh I like this.
But let me see if I got this right.
Basically people can award someone for their post.
Example someone post a question and someone replies. They can reward the person that replied with an award. If so I will install this and change the gif to accepted answer.

Post Award Hack version 1.0
This hack will allow you award posts. It will give you an option to add or remove the award. It will show a rosette on a post that has been awarded. Also, you can search from a users profile for all his award posts.
Note:Right now, only an admin can see the option to add or remove an award. But, the security in the PHP allows all users who can moderate that forum use the option. So, basically, if a moderator finds out the link, there will be nothing from stopping him from using it, but regular users will get an error. I did this so you only have to edit the templates to get more then just the admin without having to edit the php.
Files to upload: 2 (one php and one gif)
Files to edit: Zero
Templates to add: Zero
Templates to edit: Two mandatory and one optional.
Queries to run: One
Time to install: Less then 5 minutes.
Right now the feature list is small. I?ll try to add any requests you guys have.
Please click ?install? if you use it.
Please post feedback as this is my first big hack.
Kind of an original idea, and I like it. Good job.

Any possible way this could be modified for use as a post/voting hack?
If the rose could end up being a counter, if every member had the option to increase (vote) the counter or decrease (un-vote) the counter, this could be used in my forums as I have a weekly caption contest. If each member could vote on a post they like then, by the end of the week you could see who had the highest number of votes for that thread.
This is a great hack but might spawn another one........

can you name the award? for example lets say you have a question that needs to be asnwered... who ever asnwers it wins. Can you name the award like, Winner of the Winning Answer Award, or the Winning answer Award... or whatever i want to call it, but then have another award and call it something esle...
what about changing the color of the thread title in forumdisplay as well, or maybe a special icon? you don't know its an award thread until you click into it.
Works great Thx. :)
it would be nice of mods could use it.. ;)

In the changes I said to make in the postbits,
Find:$bbuserinfo['usergroupid'] == '6'Replace with:$bbuserinfo['usergroupid'] == '6' OR $bbuserinfo['usergroupid'] == '7'
So, that would let my, say "Supporters" group give awards, if I wanted... I just change the magic "7" to the appropriate number...
Is that right?

Is it possible to add the facility to search for awarded posts. I know that one can view the awarded posts from within a users profile, but if someone logs on to the forum, could they search for all awarded posts rather than for latest posts etc?
Lionel

surely someone can help me with that simple add-on. I started but it is pulling only the latest award. I'd like to be able to display a list of the awards, as per image.

If you mean what I think you mean, I would just create a link under search just below Advanced Search. Admins can then move the vB option to somewhere else on their navbar if they don?t like it there.
Version 1.1 Released. Get it in the first post.

this is nice... Can you make it
A-pull showpost.php instead to display that individual post?
B-Make it display the post title if any instead of the thread thread title.

I love it... If I wanted to customize that search template, I should copy the search template into a new template searchawards and alter that one right?
Then I would change the line
eval(print_standard_redirect('search'));
tio reflect the new template. Correct?

I am having a problem with my moderators. They can't add awards. As I understand they only should have permission to add awards in forums to which they are assigned, but at the moment they can't even do that.
I should note that they are not only assigned to a forum but have Moderator as their Primary user group. Do secondary user groups affect this? Because all of them have secondary groups.
Also, is it possible to change the award permissions so that staff can award outside their allotted forums?

Is it possible to "bind" the award to the user and not to a post?
If a user got´s an award, the award picture is always shown. Not only on the awarded post. If i klick on the award picture i searches for all the awarded posts the user gots. But if he recieved one award the picture will always be there (till someone removes all of his awards of course)
would be great.

Works perfectly. Already clicked install.
My only note is that vbAdvanced CMPS users (or others with front end 'portals' that are in a lower directory) will need to make a simple change to the navbar template edit, just adding '$vboptions[bburl]/' before the search link so that the link is valid from any part of the site.
Really great though, this is exactly what they were after. Now I just need to finish up the other 900 things they want. ;)
--edit--
Just had a thought. How hard would it be to add something to this that could act as a CMPS (or general purpose) module that could display awarded posts on the front page (in part with a link probably) as a featured post sort of deal? I'm explaining that poorly, but it would be great to be able to show, say, single posts selected randomly from those awarded with this hack in the past X days (where X is definable somewhere) on the front page.

Great hack. Works great. Anyway to get statistics with this, like how many awarded posts each user has?

Hopefully some day.
Just to clarify, the search for awarded posts simply lists out ALL the awarded posts ?
Or can a search ( like normal vb search ) actually be done and only shows results which have the 'awarded post' status ?

I´ve installed the version 3.0.3 of VB Bulletin..
open template 'postbit'
find:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
<div class="normal" style="float:$stylevar[right]">
--------------------------------------------------------------------
after place: (If you want only administrators to give awards)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
<if condition="$bbuserinfo[usergroupid]=='6'">
<if condition="$post[award]=='0'">
<a href="award.php?$session[sessionurl]do=award&postid=$post[postid]">Add Award</a>
<else /> <a href="award.php?$session[sessionurl]do=award_remove&postid=$post[postid]">Remove Award</a>
</if>
</if>

It should be in the top ten lines of the template.

Right now, will only search all awarded posts. Maybe in the future I'll some more feature. Right now now I'm working on my other hack called 'Post Thank You Hack' (it's in the beta section).

Great job Abe1! Very original. This is the kind of hack that other coders are probably kicking themselves in the butt and saying "now why didn't I think of that?" :) Your hacks are always well thought out and planned, and you always go the extra mile to include the small details (which make a big differance). You're a very good coder! Thank you for all of your hard work. We really appreciate it :)

The install went fine for me, but i get an vb error when I try to add an award that say "cannot find phrase added_award" This phrase doesn't exist in phrase manager...did I miss adding some phrases?

Fixed...I added the phrase manually and all is good (I still think I missed something)...anyway...nice hack, Thanks!

I would. It doesn't look like they did a very good job of making that style. They are responcible for correcting it :)
