Hide Smilies User Option

I have lots of smilies on my site. Lots. Like almost a thousand. I am well aware, however, that some people don't share my obsessive monomania with finding just the right wee picture for any given frame of mind, and I would therefore like to offer my usership a hide smilies option in the user cp.

I know nothing about coding, but given that a disable smilies option exists for each post, I'm hoping going the extra step to hiding while viewing isn't too hard. Can I persuade anyone to work on such a project?

Do you mean you want it to hide the actual smileys in posts or just not show the smiley toolbar to the left of the new post form?

Pardon my lack of clarity. I meant hide the actual smilies in posts, either by disabling the conversion from text to image, or preferably by hiding the entire thing.
