View Full Version : Limit the number of characters in a username
set the MAXLENGTH=x flag in the username field when signing up.
x= # of characters.
Thanks for that. In case other members are wondering why I would like to do this - its becuase somebody chose a really large username and when the forum displays their name it screwed all the table sizes up.
registeradult template was the one I needed to change
idiot me thought it was the installtemplate.php DOH !
:)

This isn't the best way to do it as a user can take your HTML, edit it, change the MAXLENGTH to something longer and then submit it from another computer.
you think they would go to all that trouble ?
we don't accept idiots who would make the effort to do that on ourt forums - they'd get booted pretty quick.
If you wanted to be really safe you could modify the DB field to have a max length of x characters. Not sure of the exact statement but I'll find it out if you want to use it.
You could also use phpMyAdmin

anyone who goes to that trouble to get the name 'asdfdafsdsdfasdfasdfsdasdfasdfafda' deserves to keep it (and possibly be promptly removed ;))
