View on releasing modified mods?

To me, if it's a fix to an existing mod, or a minor addition, I generally post in the mod thread itself and let the author integrate my changes if he desires. It's not about credit when you release stuff. It's about giving back to the people who shared with you. Starting another thread just confuses people, in my opinion.
