Hey,

Well after a few PMs with people wanting to me continue development of this I thought i'd open it up for discussion. The reason I closed the thread was because of a few bugs. I didn't realise vBulletin was built so poorly everywhere in that it relies on phrases. I didn't have the time when making the mod to worry about the hassle of phrases but I guess it's inevitable I'll have to use them on the next release.

For those who don't know what DC Glossary is it's a dictionary for your vBulletin forums. You can add/define terms via your admincp. You can allow members to add terms and choose to moderate them. You can search by name and meaning. You can import/export dictionaries to share with others. There is a main glossary listing set out like the memberlist so that you can organize the terms by their starting character.

What other features would you like to see?

i love the hack, and i did install it on my board but it didn't work prob. due to the bugs but anyways...

i know there is hack here that gives you a spell checker on your forum.. could you in any way connect your Glossary as the spell checker?

I would really like:

* Ability to add custom fields.
-- ie: Term / customfield1 / customfield2 / deffinition

* Ability to define which custom fields can be catagories
-- ie: customfield 1 -> term / custom field 2 / deffinition or
-- customfield 2 -> term / custom field 3 / customfield 4 / deffinition.

Well, my suggestions would be add an image next to the description if needed and have the description of the word on a separate page :)

I've been having health problems lately, so give me a little time to rethink the structure of the modification, the main thing will be phrasing it all. I'm so sick and tired of phrases, I find them such a hinderence.

Can you do something like : when you write a word for example : vBulletin and add it to a special code like when you write vBulletin in any other words explanation you can see vBulletin as link and when you click that word you will go directly to its own explanation

example :

vBulletin : Finest memberboard
memberboard : An internet program that members can post anything you allow
post : vs ...

When you check vbulletin you will see memberboard as link and when you click on that it will directly take you to that explanation.

I dont know if I could explain well enough.Maybe you can check this site but it uses asp http://sozluk.sourtimes.org in order to understand what I am asking for.

I was also planning to install this hack but when I was I saw you moved it to beta testing I plan to wait.

Screw phrases, why do you NEED them? Just fix the bugs and re-release, work on features on another release.

a feature suggestion:
only allowing specific usergroup with permissions to add directly to gloassary

rest of the usergroups will go for moderation/approval first :)

Re: phrases, no matter if you put them on language files or in the templates itself, like many hack developers do, so what's the deal with phrases anyway? Many vb hackers add them to the templates instead.

HArder to update for non english boards like mine but still worth for such quality hacks.

I just want to ask an easy way to search for terms on the dictionaries and a good implementation of switching a dictionary and/or ability to decide in which dictionaries to look info into.

Also, an update on the progress of this hack will be awesome ;)

Was the beta deleted? I cant seem to find it and I wanted to give that a try.

Yes it was deleted due to some pretty major bugs.

D'oh. I knew it was locked but I was going to give it a whirl anyway since I figured even with bugs its still 100x better than having to start from scratch.

Likewise, I'm in search of a gloassary for vBulletin 3.

It would be nice if it could be searched, if individual terms could be easily linked to, and if only an approved usergroup could add terms without moderation.

Interesting - a whole year has passed, and now on VB 3.5 I'm once again looking for a great glossary modification - again looking for a glossary that is easy to searh or view alphabetically, where individual terms could be easily linked to, and where only an approved usergroup or usergroups can add terms without moderation (but where all members can suggest entries that will then be approved by the forum admin/moderator.)

I?d LOVE to see this too, as cinq seems to have stopped the development of his.

edit: could you evtl. ask him to port his hack? This would save me so much time ;) Argh, i forgot that he had ported it for 3.5 already and also asked money for it so he won?t probably give it away :( But as you are a dev now you could ask to make it "official" :rolleyes:
