user verification system

Hi

I am wondering if it is possible to have a verification system for the users when they sign up for the first time. This should ensure that the person who registered are never registered again with multiple usernames. The forum should show only the user name (not the real name) but the admin can see the real name and address and such. I assume there needs to be a credit card entered for the verification to make sure the user is what the user says he is.

Is there any hack already done on this. I have looked practically for hours and was not able to find one.

Is there any other way to verify a person besides credit card. I am not trying to get age verification. I want the person to be verified before registration.

Any answer would be appreciated.

Whats wrong with wanting people's credit card, specially if its a commercial site that I am building. Anytime people sell something, they ask for it. I am no different. Besides that, I need this for a way to verify people's identity. In my forum it is very important. If people always signed up with their real information, there would not be a need for this.

If anyone has seen such a hack, please let me know. I am really in need of this.

hasan2k, some credit card companies doesn't allow the saving of cc data... so at first be shure that the cc you would support allow storing the data.

i don't know what kind of business you do, but you can try to get a copy of ID via Fax, or even better..... the user register on your side, then they will transfer money to you (not important how).... maybe 5$ ... after recieving the 5$ from customer you let him in...

after this u can give the user a 5$ discount with first order.

I do not want to store the CC data. I just want to use the CC info to verify the person to make sure the person is who is who is saying he is.

I think My question is not being understood here. All I want is to verify the person who is signing up for an account. Is there any better way to verify a person that asking for a CC.

yes, when you have contact with the person.... banktransver etc... by phone, by fax, an ID etc...

ok... you will come to my site, and ill know if you are the guy who registered... so i ask for normal adress and ill send you a confirmation code to your homeadress by post.... long way....

shorter way.... you register on my page, i tell you a 'accountnumber'... so now you transver money to my banking account INCLUDING the 'accountnumber'... so i know that you are behind your bankingaccount and you are verified yourself...

so, i see the moneytransver with number and ill give that user behind the number the access to my side....

Thats still flawed. Cause anyone who has access to the confirmation number can do it. I need it to be the person who is signing up

Impossible - as long as there isn't a worldwide PKI installed and every person has a vertificate.
